Periods were a shame and taboo subject in my family. If I had seen a video like this back then, it would have helped me SO MUCH. I remember that i hid every book that just mentioned the period when i was a kid/teen. I was so amazed, that some brave writers dared talking about this! Without realizing, that the way my family dealt with this topic wasn't normal. Without me prompting, many years later, my mom apologized. I never really blamed her - I knew the way she grew up, that it wasn't her fault. But it took a long time to get over it. I am raising my kid differently. He knew about periods from about age 5, because he asked about a box of tampons. There were many pregnant moms around him, so he already knew where babies come from and where they grow. I explained periods as the moment, when the nest, the body builds for an egg, isn't used. And it gets flushed out with blood. He took it like as if I were talking about shampoo or lip balm. It was a long road for me to get there, but videos like this really help. Just taking the taboo away, showing all kinds of different people "being in on the joke", a kid (naively but sincerely) WANTING a period. I am so happy how far things have come.

My friends mum showed us all this at her 13th and we were all visibly cringing every three seconds. A true mother.
