that was a transition day where the wind started out north then went slack midday then went south in the afternoon. Sounds like theres been some action every day recently regardless of wind direction as the fish are on sandeels now. After the water cleans up after this blow Im sure you could go catch a bunch, theyll just be mostly 20-30" class most likely as we are in the end stages of the run.

thats a van staal 200, I went through a lot of reels before I bought that, theres a ton of decent options for reels at lower cost like the penn slammer, shimano saragosa or even a daiwa BG.

It looks like MD is extending the closed targeting period for 2 weeks, but you will certainly see changes in 2024 coast wide. God forbid they close to target in other states but I wont be surprised if it happens, maryland does it to protect the fish as they spawn which I think is a good thing at this point. They close late july too as water temps reach a point where catch and release mainly leads to catch and release DEAD. Meanwhile the Chesapeake watermen harvest more bass commercially than the rest of the coast combined, VA commercial can take big breeders right up until march 15. They also properly destroy the baitfish population with omega, and worst of all are surrounded by farms and developed land which leak chemicals into the bay which lead to algea blooms and dead zones which kill off juvenille bass every summer, ESPECIALLY with no bunker to help filter the water. So Im kinda with ya, I dont see how closing the fishery in early may will lead to better spawning numbers when the majority of the fish have already spawned at that point. I dont see this issue being a result of lack of breeders It seems more an environmental issue with warmer waters but at the end of the day you will see reductions coastwide for rec anglers going forward, just none likely as extreme as maryland closing to target. Its a very tricky issue with no good solution but given MD is ground zero breeding ground they have to take the most action because as it is, the fishery will collapse in 10-20 years if it continues the way its going, assuming their data is legit
