Every news cameraman likes to be close by when news breaks but this one was particularly sad, and close to home, a quiet evening at home can be transformed into chaos within seconds.. "multiple calls, persons reported house fire ....." five doors away from me in my own street, arriving in under a minute and 5 minutes before the first fire appliance I was greeted by a sight I have seen hundreds of times over the years, a house well ablaze, most times the occupants have got out and I hoped this was the case this time, it was not to be, myself and a friend tried to break in to rescue the woman trapped inside but due to the smoke and heat it was not possible to enter the house, the camera remains rolling, unedited throughout, ... the elderly woman died metres away from us... the house did not have smoke alarms, think about this as you watch this and then go and make sure your mom and dads house has a working smoke detector ! Your mum is irreplacable....
