Just joining the floral veneer trend I have been seeing lately. I have another way which I think it would make it easier for me.
Will show that soon

I want to thank you for your complete honesty. As a creator I get stuck on whether or not I like the item I’m making. It’s true that somebody will like it! If you make a quality product and vary your designs and colors, someone somewhere is going to like the ones you don’t. I’ve seen you say “this cane is ugly but I’ll put it on some beads and somebody will buy it!” It’s freeing to think you can have fun making things that you don’t like or wouldn’t wear. It doesn’t have to go to waste because someone WILL like it and as long as it is a quality piece, you don’t have to feel guilty about selling it. The goal is to make something for everyone! I learn so much from your videos. I’ve been flabbergasted at how quickly you can take scraps of clay and whip it into some sort of shape, with dirty clay, and not be a perfectionist and come out with the most BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT canes!!! Thank you for sharing everything, the good, the bad and the ugly. It has made me a better creator!!!

I'm so glad its helped you. I am a perfectionist and so I am rarely happy with any that I make. I need to just have fun. That's what it should be about. Yes, the one's you hate, others seem to love. Thanks for being honest back at me

I hear ya!! Yes!! Making all of those beautiful beads into jewellery is a faff! Or a challenge. Lol I have just watched your tutorial. I think it's a masterpiece!! Really beautiful! And also very joyous! And I admire your patience. That design is so fiddly! It's a wonder it didn't send you loopy!! ❤

I totally agree with you about cutting the shapes before putting the components because not only u can do mirror embroidery but also saving clays, there's less scraps.

Aww, you're so sweet...so glad I could inspire you to try something new. Ok...this color palette is FABULOUS!!! That blue is the perfect contrast to the red, orange, & yellow. (I may borrow this color palette sometime) As far as them not being the same...to me, that's part of the beauty of an all over slab like this. Each pair will be different, & each piece of the pair will be different, which makes them super special in my opinion. I have made earrings that are the same, like you're talking about doing. They do look really pretty that way too, just a different style. I can send you a couple of pics if you'd like so you get an idea of how they look. Maybe it will help you plan yours out. My advice is to take a small piece of your background clay (just big enough for one pair) take your cutters, & mark the clay but not cut them out until you finish the design. That way, you know where to place the design, but you don't distort the shape as you press on the design elements. One last thing...if you find the clay is sticking to your finger & pulling out of the mold, try putting lotion or a very thin layer of oil on your finger 😉 These earrings turned out so so pretty, Irene! We are always our own worst critic & sometimes our worst enemy. Don't let your enemy decrease the value of your beautiful art. These will sell in a heart beat at your shows! 😘😘😘

I prefer my earrings being mirror images most of the time, but being an allover pattern I wouldn't hesitate to wear any one of these pieces. This colorway is gorgeous and every piece cut from it is absolutely stunning. My personal opinion is that you are being too critical in this instance, but we all have to follow our unique creative styles. Additionally, I have seen these slabs put together with the greenery being laid down first, followed by the flowers. In addition, speaking of taking cues from fabrics, I had a dress in orange and yellow florals on an almost navy background. I loved it. Thanks Irene.

I haven’t finished watching it yet, but maybe do half yellow or even a quarter with the green? I haven’t finished watching the video yet, but I did see the slab in the thumbnail and it sure looked pretty! That’s one thing I haven’t tried yet. Well one of the many techniques I haven’t tried yet. It’s crazy how many videos I’ve watched and I’m always seeing something new.

Well I have never seen a veneer done like this to be honest. I like it because it's different and I love the colour scheme :) Usually I have seen it done with flower canes and petal canes that are sliced thinly and placed down on the sheet of clay.

Irene I think they're fun and pretty albeit quite time consuming. Will be lovely for summer and I'm sure your customers will love them. Don't you just hate it when you can't find something you only saw a couple of days ago! That's me most of the time - frustrating and annoying. Thank you for your ideas and have a wonderful day x

I really like how you did the findings on that half circle; it looks great! I'm thinking the colors darkened in baking, and that the very dark green leaves might be throwing it off with the cream colored clay. The little flower molds your friend gave you comes in a larger set of 12 molds and includes some different leaves. Haven't used my set but am inspired. Shades of yellow, ombre, maybe some orange and shades of yellow greens would be nice. Or shades of plum, wine, burgundy I like rainbow like a clown wig

To make hunter green you'd need to add navy to the green, not yellow.. and the smoke detector batteries are dying which makes it chirp to let you know the Batts need to be changed

You're being too hard on yourself but I have no room to talk since I do the same thing. 🤷‍♀️ We're very critical of our own work but someone could do the same exact thing and we'd love it. Go figure. I saw a comment about placement, yes, vines or branches first, flowers then leaves. When I've seen these on Pinterest, they'll have half a flower on one earring and an entire flower on its other. I guess because of the style, thats the way its supposed to look. But im with you, i like symmetry. Thanks for sharing your first attempt.

This is so pretty. If you want to use up some canes, I take short canes and make then into sea turtles. I can sell them in my shop very cheaply. People love them. Some I put magnets on. Also I cover light switch covers with canes. They sell cheaply too. Little or no cost and good profit margin.

I think the same every time I see a gorgeous slab--wouldn't I be better off cutting the background shape and decorating on top of the cut shape? It just feels like so much wasted effort decorating the whole slab. I think you have to really love the look of randomness and layer a ton. Your end result does look very cute, though!
