Believe it or not, Don's manager called Home Free to do this collaboration. It was for the 50th Anniversary of Don's song. They all won multiple telly awards for this video and Home Free got to sing a little bit of it when Don received his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them. "American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.

Awesome reaction! If you like Home Free collaborating with the classics, you should take a listen to "God Bless the USA" with Lee Greenwood himself, AND the US Air Force Singing Sergeants. I think you'd like it.

This was done during COVID, I think Don, Tim and Austin were the only ones in the studio. The other guys taped their version from home and sent it to the studio. They put a lot of music out during the pandemic, a song every other week and again they did their portions at home. They are an amazing group, just FYI Don contacted them to do this 50th anniversary song. Will be subbing for more Home Free. One of my favorites is their cover of the Doobie Brothers song "Listen To The Music". See ya on your next reaction!!

This was during Covid so I thought the boxes were great. Reminded me of shadow boxes you keep your memories in. Don sounded great for 75! I believe he asked Home Free to accommodate him. When he got the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame he invited HF to come sing with him and celebrate with him. How cool is that?!!! They collaborated with other stars too. Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Oak Ridge boys, Lee Greenwood. Good one!

I've always loved Don McLean's classic. Back when it was released a local radio stn would, on request, send a breakdown of the meaning of each line (I wish I'd kept it). What an honor it must be to be able to sing with Don McLean and the result is so great. With a Home Free twist but still respecting the original. The harmony is amazing again. And what a great voice Don McLean still has. My childhood memory of this song is that I always had to sing along. And now I do that again.

Don had full say in all of it!!! Funny fact ---- Don never re-cut this from the original recording ---- Till this, the 50th anniversary! And damn -- it's just as good as the original ... but now "Enhanced"!!! Amazing! Be Safe

Adam did the beatboxing in his in home studio that all of the guys rigged up in their homes during the lock down and I'm sure he was able to take a break when he needed to. One of the funniest covid songs was one they wrote called Quarantine. Give it a go round but have a tissue to wipe the tears from laughing.

There was a documentary of this song commemorating the 50th anniversary. Home Free was included and interviewed as part of it. Don actually explained some of the unknown parts of the song.

Don did this in commemoration of the iconic song's 50th anniversary, and along with Home Free translated it into vocals only. The a cappella version lacks for nothing! I put this one among the HF masterpieces, and among McLean's legends. Well done -- your reaction and comments were great.

I love this cover, and it is so awesome that they got to do it with Don. It is great that there are enough verses so each one of them can sing a verse and then end with Don, so appropriate! Yep, 8 1/2 minutes long….there had been a radio version, because the stations thought it was too long.🤪👎🏼‼️.. Don has a good voice for his age🙃👍👎🏼‼️ Note…..Adam admitted that he felt like he’d pass out after beat boxing soooo Long…..What a Guy 👍🔥💗❣️💗‼️

Hopefully you are aware of the documentary, The Day the Music Died, which is all about Don McLean and this song. I believe it is on Prime. Home Free has a moment in the documentary. Your feelings for this song were very evident. One of my faves.

This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a little girl. When I first heard this cover it was hearing it again for the first time. I don't think it could be done any better.

I’m so glad you reviewed this. I love it when someone who respects this song does the HomeFree version. Back in the 70’s I worked all Summer and this album was one of the things I did with the $ was buy this album. 🎶🥰

Love it! But my favorite Don McLean album is still Solo, which he recorded on tou in England in the 1970s. As the title implies it's just him and his guitar or banjo. It's a double album and I wore mine out!! 🧓😎
