They made a movie called "The Song Remains the Same", featuring the live footage from three concerts in Madison Square Garden. That is why they have "Fantasy Sequences" in some of their songs. Each member got a scene. Robert's was on the songs, "The song remains the same, and The rain song." Jimmy's of course was "Dazed and Confused." John Paul Jones's was "No Quarter." John Bonham thought it was all a bunch of rubbish.

The Song Remains the Same is the name of a Zeppelin song and the title of their concert film. A lot of, if not most, the concert footage came from a 3 night stand at Madison Square Garden in NYC in 1973. The film is freaky and the music is out of this world. On a side note there was a poster of Page and Plant during Stairway to Heaven from this show, I had a copy up on my bedroom wall right next to my 2 posters from my Dark Side of the Moon album back in high school. And yes that was John's son Jason playing with Heart doing Stairway. In fact he was using the same drum kit his father is playing in this video.

The " If your going to San Francisco " part is ZePPeLiN improvising and just going into a totally different song that was a very big hit at that time from a different artist.

The blouse type shirt was actually a thing back then for men . I think Led Zeppelin just decided we are going to do a 28 minute concert version of this song and if people like it they like it if they don’t they don’t. That’s what I always loved about Zeppelin. It wasn’t their aim for everyone to like their music. They were the number one rock band in the world for a period during the 70s.

This is one big long improvisation within one song. The song is Dazed and Confused. The Song Remains the Same is the name of the filmed concert. Dazed and Confused was just one song in the concert. The other song you did live from this concert is another song from the same concert. Basically, 80%-90% of all live non bootleg music Zeppelin has is from this concert. Jimmy Page didn't believe in filming their concerts. So there is very little footage of them live. But they made this one official film. The Song Remains the Same. It was filmed at Madison Square Garden in NYC in 1973 and released in movie theaters in 1975 because there was no such thing as VCR's then. So us kids would see it at midnight madness type of things on Friday or Saturday nights. Every song from this concert is fire and you should sit down and just watch it for yourself. They put sort of little themed movies in some of the songs. One for each band member and the manager. You saw Jimmy Pages one in this song when he was a wizard climbing the mountain. Plants is more like a Medieval adventure. Bonham's was mostly some of his interests like cars and farming outside of Zeppelin. Sadly, I forgot what John Paul Jones' was. His home life with the wife I think? Peter Grant, the manager's was him as a gangster. Which he pretty much was in real life. Page about 25 years ago collected a bunch of bootleg footage, cleaned it up and released it as a double dvd. And a sperate triple cd of live music that does NOT correspond to the dvds. Zeppelin are the Greatest Hard Rock/Blues band Ever! Jimmy had such a simple setup yet the power he created was without equal. He used a fuzzbuster and wah wah pedal and his Les Paul's & the Gibson SG Double Neck. JPJ was the glue an mastermind behind so many of the amazing sounds greated. Bonzo, well what can one say about the GREATEST drummer to ever sit behind a kit. When I hear thunder, I smile and think Bonzo's up for another runup of Moby Dick! Percy is the ultimate frontman...

The Song Remains the Same was originally put out as a concert documentary movie in theaters. It came out in 1976 and was the first movie to feature 16 track sound. Eventually it was released as an album. I urge you to buy the concert DVD ! There isn't one weak song on the album. Also, here's one to review: The Immigrant Song from the Australian concert,1972 .

Born in Cleveland OH. I was in High School when the city found out we were the city that was to host the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And in one of my classes we have to write a report along with a presentation of what band I would induct into the Hall of Fame. So of course I pick the Mighty Led Zeppelin. Now imagine I listened to Led Zeppelin so you have an idea what goes along with rocking out to Zeppelin. Saying that so you might understand that I was not an A student, really wasn't a B or C one either. So my written part of the report lacked a bit. (A LOT) but my presentation rocked. I had rented this on VHS and what I said was "Watch this and if you do think they should be in the Hall of Fame, then you have shit for brains " and sat down. The whole class 40 + students endured the whole 28-30 minutes of it. I was happy but it was good enough to break my "D" average but at least I remained consistent. I know everyone in that class including the 97 year old teacher who was such a bitch she out lived 3 husband's. They probably wanted to die. But everyone walked away amazed and I'm sure different with a better understanding about this group

Scott Mckenzie's song was as big hit in the UK, so I can't account for early 1970s America, but it was probably part of common currency in the unconstructed hippy mind of Robert Plant at the time. At this stage cynicism hadn't quite crept in.

If you can present the studio/record versions , you're audience would be able to get the clean version, which is more palatable for those who have never heard Zep. And the live versions of the songs might not convey their best renditions.
