I've got nothing but respect for both of them, but the intro on the album is so much better. For that reason alone, I'd like to see people react to the audio version only. Regarding that intro, it definitely appeals to and is understood by certain groups of people. I loved it when I first heard it, and still do. But it always catches people off guard.

Meatloaf, king of rock opera. He is an actor first and loves to tell a story. I had the honor of seeing him in concert once, it was a show of a lifetime. The best concert and also Broadway level entertainment. Next stop... Bat out of Hell, video version. I grew up in the very best music generation ever.

Offering your throat to the wolf is a sign of trust and courage, as the wolf's nature, is to tear out your throat and kill you for food. Similar to Dashboard "does he love me?" then I'll take the rose.

Before he became a rock icon, Meatloaf's background was as an actor in stage productions and musical theater. Of all the actors they auditioned for the role of Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), he was the only one who could sing all the words to the character's signature song, "Hot Patootie," which won him the role. He not only had an intuitive sense for the music, but also a passion for performing. This is what first brought him and songwriter Jim Steinman together in 1973, and led them to become musical collaborators with "Bat Out Of Hell," and its sequels.

It was only on Broadway (or rather, 'off-Broadway' as it wasn't actually on Broadway) for a few months - starting in September 2019 before the Covid lockdowns happened and then never returned. Surprisingly, the musical was never that popular in North America (a US/Canadian tour was abandoned after only a month or two, and a LA production was also cancelled). It was far more successful in the UK where it debuted in 2018 and ran until last year (apart from a Covid lockdown gap). I saw it 3 times in the UK - twice in the West End (London) and once on tour in Stoke. All were sold out, as I believe pretty much every show in the UK was, and I believe the West End return after Covid broke box office records. It was honestly the best musical I've ever seen, and if it were to start up again I would definitely go see it again. Extensive footage of the shows can be found on KZfaq and some are well worth watching to appreciate how good the show was.

There was nobody else like Meat Loaf, he is deeply missed. You really need to check out some of his stuff he did later in his career. He matured somewhat, but his live performances were still fantastic. A good one to experience is his live version of "I'd Lie For You And That's The Truth." Check out the live video where Patti Russo is wearing the red dress (Patti was a longtime performer with Meat Loaf and sang the girl parts on albums starting with the album "Bat Out of Hell 2). Anyway, you will love this performance.

"Would you offer your throat" was referring to the outside of her throat (her neck). Think hickey. It was also more in reference to a more fantasy situation, like a werewolf or vampire. Not sticking your tongue, or anything else, down her throat. When viewed from that perspective, all the other lines in the intro make more sense. "How much do you love me?" "More than life itself." "Would you give your life for me?" "Yes." "I bet you say that to all the boys..." 😂

Rock Opera was a very unique genre and Meat was the undisputed king within. You might spend some time exploring the full genre where you'll find classics like "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Little Shop of Horrors", and the first self-proclaimed rock opera "Tommy". It took a very special set of talents to write, compose, produce, and then perform in the rock opera genre and thank goodness for Meat Loaf who brought it out into the full light of day in a spectacular way!

G'day BP. Great reaction. This is the music I grew up with. I purchased this album on vinyl when I was a teenager. As mentioned in other comments the male talking in the introduction was Jim Steinman, who wrote all of Meatloaf's songs. He also wrote Total Eclipse of the Heart for Bonny Tyler and It's All Coming Back to Me Now by Celine Dion. You have noted the connection between several songs on the concert tour. Interestingly the female lead on the video clips is not the female singer who recorded the songs for the album. The singer on the album is Ellen Foley. Ellen declined to tour on the Bat Out of Hell tour and had to be replaced by another singer who lip-synced the songs which were played from recordings. The woman in the video is actually Karla DeVito. God Bless my friend.

I saw meatloaf twice when he was over here in England. First was the 10th anniversary tour of bat out of hell and was mind blowing. The second time was on Valentine’s Day. He sat on the edge of the stage with a red rose 🌹 in his hand and sang 2 out of 3 ain’t bad to one of the audience staring at the all the way through the song. At the end he called the person up to the stage. It was a young lad probably only about 17. He gave him the rose and told him to give it to his girl friend. So sad to think I will never see him perform live again 😢

Jim Steinman is the guy in the intro. He wrote a bunch of Meatloaf's songs and they had a long collaboration together. He has some great poetry type tracks like that. My favorite is "Love, Death, And An American Guitar," from Steinman's solo album. Insanely great, weird, wild word symphony. The intro is only tangentially related to the song. The song is about love, the intro is more about what will you sacrifice for love. And the videos aren't from a performance. They're all lip syncs to make videos, long after the album was recorded. Carla DeVito, the brunette singer, isn't even the one who sang on the album, she's just there for the video.

My second year of uni, a bunch of us went to a conference as drama presenters. We went out on the town that night and hit a bar that had about 15 "senior" sports players (I believe they were curlers, all 45+). Just us (about 20 of us, all under 35) and them, a couple waitresses and the bartender. Bartender puts on Bat Out of Hell - and the "old guys" started singing along. And every time the female parts came on, we would start singing. My husband (our DD) just sat there shaking his head at "these crazy old men and uni students". When Bat Out of Hell was over, Bartender put on Grease, followed by Abba. We stayed until last call - and I don't think any of us talked to anyone outside of our own group - just sang along and had a BLAST! 25+ years later and I still laugh at how music just brought a bunch of drunks together for a night and it all started with Meatloaf and Bat Out of Hell. (Now I'm wondering what everyone else is up to and how those old guys from Alberta are doing.)

We were lucky, we had the best music. Rock and Country. My son told me that one day. Need to listen to some Lynyrd Skinner. Freebird is a looong song. LOL used to have to flip the tape over in the middle, lmao. Yeah, I had the cassette. But I go back to 8 tracks and vinyl.

Recommendation: Meat Loaf "Objects In The Rearview Mirror (may appear closer than they are)" FOLLOWED BY "the insatiable appetite " as sung by Steve Barton. Same music but altered for true musical theater. Also Good Girls Go To Heaven, Bat Outta Hell, Wasted Youth, and Life Is a Lemon

I was able to see Meat Loaf 4 of the many times that he performed in Australia with my best friend, they were 4 of the best concerts we have ever attended. We knew at the 4th concert that it would be the last time we would ever get to see him live again and it hit me hard. I have loved his music since I was 9 years old, Bat Out of Hell and Rocky Horror Picture Show cassette tapes came out in around late 1975/ early1976, Australia being at the other end of the world we had to wait at least 6 months before stuff was available to us. We played those tapes until they were worn out. I am probably in the minority here but I think his best Album was Bad Attitude with Cheating In Your Dreams being the best song Meat Loaf has ever recorded. That whole album just spoke to me. All 3 Bat Out of Hell Albums, Welcome to the Neighborhood and the rest of his back catalogue are just worth listening to, there will most likely not be many video's that cover all of his songs. Meat Loaf and Jim had such a great friendship (with some long periods of estrangement) but they were able to come together and make some of the greatest music of their generations. When we lost Jim and then Meat Loaf they were 2 of the saddest days in music because we will never get that kind of music again. One thing that people who react to any songs before the mid to late 90's need to remember they were such different times, and what we now call Pop Culture can't be held up against those decades in the same context 75% of the stuff did not even exist. I am so glad so many new fans are discovering music from the 60's, 70's, 80's and some 90's stuff but you really had to be there to understand the feeling that those songs invoked in people. My world as an Australian was smaller, safer, carefree and filled with music that has woven themselves through the decades of my life, a life enriched by Meat Loaf and Jim. I do love your facial expressions when you listen to the lyrics again, back then we listed to the music and we had no idea the words of these songs would in some cases mean something every different today to their meanings back then.

Bat Out Of Hell was their # 1 hit for months. It is a full circle song beginning middle end. Have to pay attention to it. Sense Meatloaf did musical on Broadway that's why his songs are story songs.

"For Crying Out Loud" is probably my favorite tune by them... but love most their music... but the man can sing!

There's a little known 'B' side he did called "Fallen Angel' which is worth a listen even if you don't do it as a reaction, it's also on Meat Loaf's "Midnight at the Lost & Found" album if I remember correctly

All of the Meatloaf songs you have reacted to so far are from the "Bat Out Of Hell" album,,, do yourself a huge favour and sit in a quiet comfy place and listen to the entire album from start to finish, no skips just play through. The album was written by Jim Steinmann as a concept/soundtrack for a stage musical. It was such a huge thing back in the day, and remains one of the best of its genre, to this day... btw, I might be just a smidge biased about this album and it's incredible creators 🥰 🙃🐨🇦🇺

This video and others are from a performance that resembles a no act rock opera more than a concert. The Bat of Hell album is in the genre of the Rocky Horror stage performance a few years earlier. Some of these performers including Meat were in that production. The songwriter Jim Steinman also directed the movie version of the Rocky Horror show. During this time in the 70's this all made perfect sense.

Meatloaf made concept albums. Not just an album with a bunch of songs - they were albums whose songs added together made a full opera. He was mentally ill and his albums are so beyond anyone else! Such a talent! He did not get enough credit.

😊❤ Hi! This song and the others you mentioned are all part of the 'Bat Out Of Hell' album. The title song is the first one. It is a concept album basically about prom night. That's why he is wearing the tux shirt in the live performances. You are absolutely correct that it has a story line, from one song to the next. You won't find a bad song in his catalog!! RIP Meat and Jim! 😇 Gone too soon. Luv ya!! 😊❤❤

You can't go wrong with any Meatloaf song! a little trivia...Rock and Roll Dreams Come True is another great song. The official video includes a young actress that had yet to be in a movie, her name was Angelina Jolie.
