First responder says HOA dispute is keeping her from dream home

After months of searching, local first responder Shanstasia Stevenson said she found her dream home in the Townhomes at Wexford community-earlier this year. "There was one little step. They told me before I could close on the house I had to have an interview with the HOA," she said. "Previously the townhome had a [HOA] Violation due to the garage, the garage had been converted into a room. After that, the seller was made aware of this, so the seller converted the garage back and then I had the interview." But according to her, her dream turned into a nightmare after that interview.

Sadly, the reverse is happening. New construction communities are required to have an HOA in many counties across the US. Municipalities are passing maintenance and servicing, normally provided by tax dollars onto the communities and using tax dollars elsewhere. There is a court case in Florida over who is responsible to build a road in front of several new homes in a new community. The HOAs aren't qualified to do the job, hence the Surfside collapse.

Its common in nudist communities. Its an in person nude interview. I had to do it when i bought 5 nudist condos for 5k each back in 2011. They were paid off in 2 months of air b&b.

In my neighborhood it is required to have a HOA interview prior to making a formal offer. They would need to do a background check and an interview.

I didn’t have to interview with the full HOA board when I bought a condo in San Francisco, but I did have to meet with representatives of the board when I was buying into a co-op apartment in NYC. Factoid: My first apartment was a rental in a co-op building and I had to meet with a representative of the board then too.

Why would she still want to buy it after being mistreated by the HOA BEFORE closing... I was born and raised in an HOA. My parents got letters monthly sometimes weekly about me and my twin brother. Letters and fines for dumb stuff like leaving the garage open, walking around the neighborhood barefoot, swimming in the pool without a parent, "chopping a neighborhood tree down" (which never happened and they went to court without notifying us, tried to sue us for a random tree that fell down during a storm. They said we cut it down.) I learned from a very young age how terrible and corrupt HOAs are.

I used to be the President of my condo association in Florida where that house is located. The owner has grounds to file a complaint with the state agency that regulates HOA’s and the HOA will lose that complaint. The owner also has grounds to go to mediation with the HOA which is free for the homeowner, and the HOA will lose that mediation too.

We know what this is. They always move the finish line or seek obstacles to exhaust you and get what they want.
