Desperate times lead to desperate actions, dropping the bike onto the left side works to shuffle fuel around till I can fix the issue. Otherwise I think the test ride is a success!!!

I bought an 83 FLHT in worse shape than that one a few yrs ago from a guy cheap. It’s was beat and ugly, but I wanted the shovelhead drivetrain for another project. I planned on selling off the roller and title to get some money back, no offers. Yrs later the wife asked, will an EVO motor fit in there? Yup, it’ll bolt right in. “ why don’t you build it back with an EVO for us to ride together?” She rides her own custom 82 FXR we built. So over a few yrs I redid the old bike. 107”S&S motor from a Big Dog, converted to belt rear drive, upgraded brakes, 6spd OD gear set, tons of other upgrades but used as much of the original bike as possible. Today it’s a smooth as glass two up tourer. The 107, recammed for low and mid range is smooth and strong and the old FLT frame is a joy to cruise on. It was a long process but it’s a hobby, so saving the old iron is a labor of love. Those ugly old FLTs are some smooth bikes on the hiway.

Honed the cylinders put new Harley OEM pistons plus brand new screamin eagle heads and I have been riding it every week or so since, Got to love the EVO motor they are the best. This video brings back so many memories of being broken down on the side of the road. After putting a basket case back together, I spent the next 15 years splattering oil all over California, leaving timing weights that turned to shrapnel on the side of the road, and basically wrecking on a regular basis. When picking up a bike, turn the bars AWAY from you; much easier to pick it up.

knew you were in Brooklyn by the alley at the very start of the vid. knew it was Bensonhurst as you hit the street. didnt realize it was 20th until the turn tho! I lived over on 61st & 19th. my uncle is Villy, ran a car shop for a bit. your laps were fun to watch. thanks

Agree with @michaelerickson1518. Don't do the top end unless there's clear evidence there's a failure. I don't even know why you'd mess with the chain?

@tta850 it's a pain changing out a belt, impossible alongside the road. I'd keep the chain more maintenance, but you don't have to take your primary apart to change when it breaks, and it will break. The belt is my least favorite thing on my 83 FXSB!

I have one of those, you MUST run a short direct line to carb ..it will not pull at highway speeds. Notice how it worked when you tilted scoot to left ? Leave top end alone, evo's roll forever....

I’ve bought a 1989 FLH sport look just like that five years ago. Complete restoration from front to back from top to bottom 50 miles on it. It was the cleanest bike I’ve ever owned anyway you said chrome won’t get you home. But flat black will get you back

I used to strip bikes down & restore them as best I could with new parts etc. But as I get older I've just fixed them up enough to use & found it a lot easier (obviously) but also I can use it straight away, not be to precious about paintwork chrome etc and most importantly enjoy it. Currently running around on a 100cc Yamaha that is clean & everything works but shows it's age (& history) with pride. It makes me smile every time I get on it. My restored RD400 is great but the little 'hundred' is my go to weapon of choice. Hope you decide to fix yours up & use it for a while. Enjoy.

The emulsion tube and pilot jet are clogged. Take it back apart, clean the emulsion tube and pilot jet and make sure the floats aren't perforated, make sure the needle valves on the float and throttle slides seal properly and aren't obstructed. Clean the channels in the body of the carb while you are in there and re seal and reassemble the carb(s). Then fresh plugs with proper gapped electrodes. Set the electrode gaps yourself there is no such thing as a pre gapped plug. Make sure all the terminals are clean and free of corrosion for adequate continuity, make sure your grounds and power distribution is good. Run fresh fuel lines and filters. Clean fuel tank and clean fresh fuel. Make sure the secondary and primary winding resistance is within spec and that the ignition wires and rectifier is good. Then go burn the carbon off the valves and enjoy your sikle. Obviously make sure your rotors are clean, you have Plenty of friction material, your calipers are not seized and your hydraulics don't have any cavitated air. Probably bleed clean dot 4 through them. Then she'll go just fine bud. God bless

Hey there! Hello from New Zealand! My name is Ra, and pleased to meet you, brother! It was the tagline that landed me on your channel, and when I saw it, I realised that I'm sort-of in your shoes. I haven't been on a motorcycle for nearly 40 years. I've been questioning my life choices lately, and I miss being on two wheels. The rumble of the motor, the wind in your face, the bugs in your teeth and clothing... Lol. Plus, the freedom, the utter freedom a motorcycle gives you... Yeah, I got it bad! Lol. However, I'd thought I'd follow along as you fix up that monster and get her road-worthy and singing a fine tune. Subbed no probs.
