Those lovely people at Hatfields of Crowthorne let me out on my own to have a go on a Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade.
When I got there it was an SP version in Repsol colours.
This is what I thought of my first ever ride of a 'Blade and my first litre bike on the road. As you can see I did enjoy it!!

I Bought one 10 weeks ago here in Thailand, have made various changes as the laws here are less strict etc and have had it hand painted .. my initial feeling having part exchanged my 2015 CB650 as i drove it from the show room was i had bitten off far more than i can chew . the power difference was unbeliebvable , the ride handling .. in fact everything about this bike was so very different to the 650 .. but only 2 weeks later and i have to agree this is an awesome machine so easy to ride .. very comfortable and this being Thailand the brakes were quickly put to the test and thankfully i couldn't believe how exceptional they are .. i have just one concern and that is the fact i can feel the heat from the engine coming from the frame and it can get quite uncomfortable .. i have tried to find info on the nominal engine operating temp but so far without success .. i am getting readouts at traffic lights of 108 but will drop to 107 so never goes beyond this and no warning light appear .. i have been told this is the norm .. however would appreciate if anyone else has any info they could share with me . it would be greatly appreciated . Very enthusiastic video but i hear where you are coming from .. 10 weeks since i purchased it the feeling has not been dampened one bit .. Thanks

Thanks for stopping by. Yes the heat from the engine can be uncomfortable especially in warm weather, but it's a 1000cc engine, they all pump out heat. You want to try a 959 or 1299 Panigale, makes the Blade feel cool! I wouldn't worry about the engine temp. Mine regularly hits 106 in traffic and then the fan kicks in and it drops again. Worry if it hits this while riding at a decent speed or if it goes north of 108-110 stationary!! Then you'll get warning lights!!! Normal riding at speed temp is anything between 88-95 depending on ambient temp and how hard you're riding it. It will hover around 100 in slow moving town riding in warm weather.

Thanks for stopping by. It was a very enjoyable ride too! You're spot on with your analogy. I was so taken with it that I went back to the dealer the following week and bought one! (the standard one though not the SP unfortunately) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aJl9qdpj3Nmspac.html

The CBR1000RR's engine has a longer stroke and smaller bore compared to the zx-10r and R1, which means it'll have less horsepower but a broader torque range, which translates into user friendliness. Not the most powerful, but the best handling, most comfortable liter bike in my opinion. I love the looks of the 2016 model, especially the front. Wish it had all the electronic wizardry like traction control, but ABS is the most important, for me (much easier to recover from a rear wheel slip when over-throttling than a front wheel slip when over-braking).
@MiddleagedRider
@MiddleagedRider 7 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's lovely to ride on the road. The leccy wizardry would allow you to be more brutal and ham fisted with the throttle and ultimately fire you out of corners earlier and quicker, but without all that it really teached you to ride smoothly and with gradual user inputs.

This is why I call myself 'Slowrider' Paul, I deliberately buy slow bikes because I couldn't trust myself with a blade, I've always liked them though, my CB1100 doesn't encourage me to ride fast like a Blade would. I saw your vid showing the blade you bought, very nice, take care! Paul.
@MiddleagedRider
@MiddleagedRider 8 жыл бұрын
Lol - most of my riding is in the "slowrider" style and that's why I love my 650. Fast enough for fun but not silly fast, but sometimes, especially on a weekend to thrash the Blade is just something else and I'd always be wondering if I'd not had one!!!! Safe riding to you too.

Basically, the type of insurance that covers bike dealers for test rides doesn't exist here (Rep. of Ireland). All you're allowed to do is sit on the bike, maybe a start up and some revs, but that's it.

Crashed my CBR600RR, the only 1000cc bike I'm considering is a Fireblade. I wonder what the difference in ride is between the normal one and this one?
@MiddleagedRider
@MiddleagedRider 8 жыл бұрын
As my local dealer said to me, "you have to be a very tasty rider to really notice the difference between the two (standard and SP version)" For me personally I noticed the following. The SP front Brembo brake is slightly stronger although I suspect you'd only really notice it on the track. The pegs are slightly higher and set back more on the SP and again personally I found that riding position a little nicer but for me we're talking fractions here. Apart from the "bling" factor with the Ohlins and Brembos for me as a very average rider I can't really notice much difference and couldn't justify the bigger retail price. The engine performance is brutal with both, no real difference there either!
@Kaspurr84
@Kaspurr84 8 жыл бұрын
I'd love to have an SP as a little quick trip bike just to say I had one of the maddest machines out there. Having had a CBR600, but now a CBR650 I wouldn't go back to just having a super sport as my only machine thats for sure, I'm only 32, was a little younger on the 600, it's pain at any age on longer rides. But as you expressed, it's a different animal.
@MiddleagedRider
@MiddleagedRider 8 жыл бұрын
I deffo couldn't ride one every day as my only bike! My back wouldn't cope! But as you say for some weekend fun most definitely. Having said that the standard Blade would be more than enough. As my dealer said to me when I got back "On the road you wouldn't notice the difference between them, unless you're a very tasty rider"

So, how is it comparing with the Panigale ?!?
@MiddleagedRider
@MiddleagedRider 8 жыл бұрын
They're two very different beasts! The Panigale is easier to ride "full on". The electronic toys really flatter the rider. The Blade needs total concentration but is very very rewarding. The clincher for me is I got my Blade for about 10k - half the price of a 1299S! No doubt the Panigale is technically a much better bike but 10k better? Not convinced. Mind you I'd still have one! It's a Ducati after all ;)

Lol - it has plenty of power for road riding. In fact all 1000cc supersports have more power than you need or can use on the road. Big HP figures are for Top Trumps. Unless you ride in the BSB paddock I'd bet that most people wouldn't even notice.

Thanks but it really impacts on all other road users and in my humble view is very inconsiderate driving. Personally I think the solution is to remove the legal requirement for speed limiters so Lorraine's can overtake faster. Win for everyone on the road
@t5frankie
@t5frankie 8 жыл бұрын
+Middleaged Rider I get what you're saying but why are other modes of transport more important? lorry drivers are just trying to get somewhere as quickly as possible as they have timed deliveries and are also against the tacho in relation to time. if there was a massive queue of trucks in lane one because they couldn't overtake there would be even more congestion.
