➡️ABOUT THIS VIDEO: This is a review of my first bicycle ride on a Brompton folding bike! See my first impressions of the Brompton bike and the review of the first ride. How fast can you unfold and fold a Brompton folding bike? I do a series of tests to see what it is really like riding a Brompton bike. Does the Brompton bike ride on gravel? How do you work the gears? Is it as fast as a regular bike?
These are just a few Brompton folding bike topics that are shown in this video.

What did you experience on your first ride?

My first ride on the Brompton was a little different handling because of the wheel size but it was fun. Once i fold it now i put a velcro strap on it to hold it together securely. It took me a few times to get the fold down.

I have multiple different type of bikes from MTB, City bike to Beach Cruisers but my Brompton is my favorite. I never have to worry about it outside. I dont have to deal with bike carriers, It’s built well. Zippy on a stop and go commute. Super easy to travel with specially on Trains, Metro and Planes. Best all around bike. I will never get rid of my Brompton!

That is a great testimony to the Brompton! I have only done car traveling with my Brompton and it is super convenient, but so far my hybrid bike handles better. Who knows? I could change my mind by riding my Brompton more.🙂

You have to have the seat post fully down to lock the bike to prevent it from opening up. However, you can use a Velcro strap to hold the bike in the folded position when using the raised seat post to push it. 👍

When I got my "LightweightH6LXBrompton" ;-) a few years ago, I found the small original easy-wheels rather useless and changed to larger versions, now 10 cm behind the saddle! With Mudguards and - original titanium struts I found out that the original "metal brackets" holding the struts were rather heavy, so I have bought some from carbon, as also a titanium seat post, and parts. It's an endless list of parts being able to improve on your Brompton, so good luck! And the small wheels, even pumped to Brompton standard, will never roll as easy as larger wheels! But a Brompton is a tool for special occasions and may by that do a lot of things ordinary bikes can't!

@@RideandShineBicycling When I got mine, I took it in my celler to give it an autopolish on all painted parts. And I found that the clear tape "protection" from the factory, several places had nearly worn through, so I bought number of carbon shelves to protect the frame from scratches! You are also able to buy a telescope bar for the two easy wheels behind the saddle, to be able to roll it more easy when folded. ;-)

I ordered a six speed for my wife and rode it for less than 15 minutes on flat land and the three speed hub stopped shifting. Not sure if it is the lever or the hub itself. Brompton wont return if rode but provided a video to adjust (Unsuccessful as the first step of the process is to put into right selector to 3 which cant be done as thats the problem), offered to arrange for a dealer to repair for free or schedule a session with a technician in UK. I asked to arrange for repair and am awaiting response. Not a good experience thus far but hopeful. Seems like allot of money for bicycle only to have it break so fast.
@RideandShineBicycling
@RideandShineBicycling Жыл бұрын
Geez, not too pleasant. At first, it took me a while to learn how to shift. I bought it from a local bike shop so that I can bring it in for whatever care I need. They do a one-year free check-up. But the good thing about all of this is that the Brompton has a 7-year warranty. I hope it works out and you start enjoying your Brompton.
@mxpmw
@mxpmw Жыл бұрын
@@RideandShineBicycling Brompton arranged for a dealer to repair it, and it was repaired in a few hours. The shift mechanism itself and needed a major adjustment for some reason. The warranty experience was a positive touch point with the company. Back and running. Seems like the high cost is primarily for the foldability of the bike which is amazing since it is so small after folding. I have a fully suspended mountain bike and a gravel bike which each cost more, but have really good drivetrains, hydraulic brakes and components (and weight less than the Brompton). But they don’t fold up.

@@RideandShineBicycling I purchased my brompton yesterday. I pick it up today if everything works out and all my other accessories arrive too. I ended up with the C-Line Utility model Coral Fire color, Medium handlebar, 3 speed only (after seeing reviews about how dirty 6 gears can get and cause issues), and I only ride on flat city streets 6 miles or less. I got the liberty backpack and a helmet, and ordered a louder bell, carrying bag, and phone mount on Amazon. I DID NOT get the rear rack for the same reasons you stated about the weight. I really wanted one, but not worth the extra weight as I plan to bring it on the Metro sometimes up and down stairs. I'm catching the Metro to go pick up the bike today, and take an Uber back home, because I need to practice riding it in my neighborhood first, before I fall off of it or something😁since I haven't rode a bike in 15 years. lol Enjoy your new bike!

After some frustration, I have adapted to some parts that are in this video. I have still have not mastered how to roll it. Also I am looking into making it lighter, so I can carry it more easily. I am going to change the stem post to Titanium plus other items on the Brompton(a future video). I want to change the bell, but I am hypersensitive about adding any more weight to the bike. But all in all I am very happy I purchased the bike...'Apple Betty Brompton'- its name :) Thanks for the comment!

Do NOT stop pedalling to change gear. Instead. KEEP THE PEDALS TURNING, but ease the pressure on them. This is the same technique as any other bike with hub or derailleur gears.

That's interesting.. the manual says "it is important to stop pedaling or back pedal slightly when changing gear." I was having trouble in the beginning and now I don't even think about the process. I am probably doing exactly what you are telling me to do. Thanks for the great advice.
