Ah, this is a really lovely thing to say, thank you for taking the time to post it. Of course constructive criticism is not easy to always hear, but it is necessary sometimes and it's something I hope always to be open to. It is unlikely that anyone will be harder on us that we are on ourselves, so there is that too! I do think there is a difference between saying 'here's something you could improve' vs 'you shouldn't have bought this horse' too - one could be useful, the other just feels a little unkind. I'm very excited to work with my coach and in the gym to continually improve my riding and hope that in a year's time we can look back and say 'look how far we've come!". Well firstly, welcome to 'the yard' and thanks for being here. The changing of the diagonal is more, as my coach put it, to give them something to 'tune into'. As I think we can all imagine, going round and round on a circle can get a bit boring and make a young horse switch off, but changing the diagonal gives them a little something to look out for and stay with you. It will also of course help balance as you've said, as he'll need to learn to manage both pushing both from the 'outside' and 'inside'.

I’d argue it really depends on the horse and the context. When Harley first arrived, he was used to a lot of contact and rode short through the neck, so loose reins and a contact asking him to stretch down made him feel “unsafe”. Since this video, we’ve been able to settle him into feeling more comfortable with a much longer contact and encouraging him to begin to stretch down (you can see that on some of my recent Instagram Reels). As with anything, it takes time to get to know a horse and I’m so grateful to have my coach in person to ride him and talk us through it as we learn more about this fabulous boy. Perhaps I’ll share an update soon so you can see the change in his frame already 🥰

I think perhaps the one I had in the past just didn’t fit me well. I found it didn’t offer me the support I was looking for in the jumping or the dressage which defeated the point. However, as I said, the one I bought was a GP and I do like this one!

I don’t think you’ll get any hate for this comment, everyone is entitled to an opinion. What I will say is that there is a risk with any young horse, but what I think is important is the right attitude, a willingness to continually improve in our own riding and professional support, all of which I believe I have. You may not agree, as is your right, and if so, you do not have to join us on this journey. However, perhaps you will, and perhaps we may surprise you with our improvements and our progress. ❤️
