I’m a fan of your videos. But speaking from experience, I’ve had tried every type of snow removal equipment to maintain a 1acre home where we get a decent amount of snow. I started with a Jeep with a plow but wound up with big piles of snow. Then I added a 2-WD compact tractor with a loader to move the piles of snow. 2-WD required chains, which scratched up the asphalt. Got a 4WD tractor. Then the Jeep died. Got a rear 3-point snowblower. Worked great, but the 2 herniated disc’s in my neck didn’t like it and the wind blowback wasn’t much fun. Got a Polaris Brutus with enclosed cab with heat and a power angle plow. Great plowing, up to 6-8” because of the grade. Got stuck a lot. Got a walk behind snow blower to supplement. But got the blow back again. The best option is an enclosed cab front snowblower. Took 22 years to figure it out

I've got nowhere to blow the snow for a huge chunk of my driveway. I have a huge corner with garages as well. That option alone wouldn't work for me. I've said it many times, there's no such thing as some size fits all solution. Everyone's circumstances are unique.

I've had a John Deere 277, 530, 2320 and F725 all with front mount. F725 was shaft driven single stage and powder everywhere. I used an electric visor snowmobile helmet so I could kind of see. Currently have a 3520 cab with front mount and a 4066R is on order with a cyclone inverted blower. I clear my funeral home, yard and cemeteries, cut grass, dig graves and there is no single machine that will do half the jobs great. Front mount means no FEL and no way to unstuck yourself, 2wd is pointless for the same reason, belt driven is painful the amount of times I had to unhook to reset belt that pops off every time you hit hard snow or anything remotely firm. I broke 2 shear pins today and have gone through over a dozen this winter already and I cannot wait to get a 1/4" or thicker steel blower as my 59" JD blower just cannot handle the rough cemeteries and the debris they contain. I have a B95C backhoe, Kubota 2700 diesel zero turn, Kubota 040-4 excavator, dump trailer, deck over, enclosed x4 and a ramped utility trailer. None of them replace the strengths of the other, but size matters in tight quarters and each does something very well. I do like to be able to use the front blower as a snow pusher when you cannot blow, between house and vehicles for instance. It isn't a snow pusher, but probably 60% of one and it works well enough.

@@jeffreylee7184 What about the entire landing pad up top where there are garages on two sides, trees that touch the edge of the driveway and property and a driveway in front? There is nowhere for that snow to be blown. Plus, I use a different setup every winter, sometimes multiple setups to make videos. I could use a shovel as well, but what fun is that?

I have 2 pull type snow blowers. A 60" amd 72". The two tractors are a cub cadet ex2900 and new holland boomer 40 hp. And both have cabs and i leave the loader on both. I also have the added scrapper blade on the back of the snow blower and i get at least 2 inches from garagw doors. We do over 100 residential driveways and is the best set up. Using the snow blade is nice if time is on your side. But not needed to get close to things with a little practice

Greetings from Wisconsin! Hey you two, great to finally get some snow, eh? Well after a lifetime of kicking in the Northwoods, I'll say I think the spray stuff is snake oil, I think it's more important to dry the blower, then apply lube to prevent rusting. Second point, as I've always said, no to properties are the same, as no 2 snows are the same. 2" of powder, 10" of wet heavy, 14" blowing drifting, 2" of wet slippery. Hills, steep driveways, long gravel, inside corners, fence along one side, gates, parking lots. A man needs options. Snow pusher with back drag and a rear 3pt blower is my favorite setup. The back drag is essential, unless it's a snow pusher, rear blade setup. But then you're stuck with piles which I'm not a fan of. Great job to your brother standing and working while you "play". Take care Courtney

Looks like everything worked well enough. I have tried numerous spays and found none of them last long enough to really be worth the effort or expense. My issue with snow pushers in a residential use is that unless you have a really large area for a snow dump, they eventually lead to the shrinking driveway syndrome. You may also want to consider a backup camera mounted to the cross bar at the front area of the snow pusher for use when back dragging. As careful as you may try to be, you will eventually hit the wall or the garage doors. This may help delay or prevent that. And yes, the cab would be a great improvement. Until then - heated gloves. With the rear mounted blower it really is essential that you are the first person driving over the snow to prevent or reduce the compaction otherwise it just builds up over the winter. Happy snow blowing!

Great video to watch on a cold, Saturday morning with a cup of coffee! As I get closer to my tractor purchase for a new house up north, snow removal is an important consideration. Watching your video, it appears you are able to push the snow far off the driveway without digging up the grass. This is something I never considered, that is, the ability to leave room for successive snow falls.

Just my opinion but the best setup I've seen ,a neighbor has a front mounted snowblower with a scraper blade on back that he drags snow away from the doors and looks a lot more compact then your setup. But everyone's area to clear is different but his seems like it would work just about anywhere plus if the snow is really deep your not running the front of tractor thru the snow and drifts first.

That worked very well. I chickened out at the last minute going into this storm and put the front blower on and the grader blade on the 3 pt. Thursday night. Turned out we had about 8 inches or so of pretty fluffy snow. Probs would have gotten away with the pusher. LOL! I run the turf tires on my 1025R. No fluid no wheel weights. Going on 6+ years on the tires and no issue in winter or summer....so far. I clear about a 300ft driveway with a pretty good grade. If I start to slip I throw it into 4x4 and off I go. I am sure it will be an issue if we get a base of ice some day. Then I'd be wishing I had chains...LOL! Thanks for sharing the great video!

Great video. In northeast we have received quite a bit of snow already. I believe there is no such a thing as one attachment / method that will work for everyone simply because of the unique situations for their particular situation. I think your watchers need to keep that in mind. I commend you for trying different methods and tools to help educate people on what is available so they can decide what is best for them. On a side note, I noticed you didn’t have side mirrors on the tractor in this video.

I certainly agree with trying to not drive over the snow before trying to push it or back drag it, found that to be the case with my plow as well. I would recommend that you bevel the UHMW cutting edge on pusher so the bottom of it sits flat on the ground, so it's front edge meets the ground (same level as the side UHMW "slides"). Especially with the thickness of that UHMW, it will take forever to "wear it" down to that point, especially with the side slides, and until you do, the more "packed" snow is going to push the cutting edge up. I did not see a close up of the cutting edge or slides on the rear snow blower, but I am assuming it is more traditional and the leading edge of the "cutting edge" is closer to the ground, allowing it to cut through the snow you drove over, better than the thick UHMW edge on the pusher. Those wide UHMW slides may also be keeping the pusher from getting through your packed snow from the tires, the width making the pusher float up and over the packed snow. Thinner slides might more easily push through the snow pack, while still protecting the driveway surface, allowing the rear cutting edge (once it is beveled) to cut through the packed snow....... Though it will not float as well then when going over your grass (just take the loader out of "float" and lift it just a little bit). I put a 3/4" UHMW cutting edge on my 94" plow and have been amazed at how much "abuse" it takes and it has only "worn" as expected, no "damage" (breaking, cracking or chipping). Great video!!

One thing I think I learned from watching is you need to just push the snow straight ahead. I have a plow blade and had it turned at an angle. Unfortunately i had no steering as the tires slide. I put some suitcase weights on the front hoping it will help. Not enough snow here in SW Pa. To try out yet. Thanks for all video. Maybe a pusher is in my future 🤔

The one comparison I would like to see on a compact is an inverted like you ran in the video and what they call a hybrid inverted like was shown in the John Deere clip you added. These are expensive blowers and I want to make the right choice for my next tractor. For the cold I use a full face snowmobile helmet with heated visor, artic carharts, cabelas predator pack boots and quality snowmobile gloves. Im usually out for 2 to 3 hours and never get cold. The snowmobile helmet helps with the snow dust blowing back at you as well. Im running a front blower and rear scraper blade. Inverse of your setup. Im sure I look ridiculous but Im warm.

We got hit with 6” off snow here in KY. It’s rare but it happens sometimes. I ordered a set of TerraGrips but they did not come in on time. So I had a grader blade with uhmw cutting edge and some edge tamers. Surprisingly the R4 (not grooved) did great. I didn’t spin one time. Granted I wasn’t on ice. I pushed pretty big piles of snow. Maybe I just got lucky but I think people underestimate the R4. Just my opinion… i know I they’re not that great and I don’t like them either but still… I plowed my driveway and 1/4 mile off the country road I live on (county was overwhelmed) the snow did stick to the bucket and the plow tho. I can’t justify a snow pusher, or a snow plow, or a blower for something I’ll use 2pr 3 times a year… but I got it done… btw I’m originally from Canada so I know a thing or 2 snow…. great video

The only thing I don't like about snow pushers and plows in general is running out of places to put the snow during multiple snow events. I learned that the hard way during the Winters of 2018 and 2019 here in Vermont where I ran out of room while plowing with my ATV. I now use a front mounted snowblower on my tractor which works 100% better dispersing the snow all over my front and side meadows with no worries of running out of space.

I live in Vermont as well and plowed with an ATV for 20 years. I too had the run out of room problem. Since I was snowblowing walkways and other areas that I couldn’t get with the plow, I learned to plow first and then snowblow out the piles on both edges of the driveway. Tried just the snowblower but it took way too long (and seemed more like work).

@@qcan8468 I too use both the snowblower and ATV plow. I use the snowblower for the driveway then clean up with the plow around my mail box and edges. It's worked for me so far provided I don't let the snow build up too deep like I did in 2018. I had to have a plow guy come plow me out twice that Winter. LOL Cheers to a fellow Vermonter!

So. I have the same tractor with the same snow pusher (because of you) I have my backhoe on the back. When you push snow are you using the float function? When I do my front wheels lift and I have less push and I can’t steer. So I end up just touching it to the ground so I can steer. So I am constantly adjusting. Do I need weight on the front or less weight on the rear? Can you use float with the weights on the front l?

My thought is looking at something like removing the radiator screen for the Winter an slide a sheet of plastic as a Winter front (would love it to be JD Green & what would be even sweeter if it had the JD Logo laser cut in it for some air flow through the radiator). So in short anyone came across something like this & where.

Because I haven't seen it stated here yet. PLEASE check your local laws before pushing snow into a roadway! I know that in Northern Maine that this is a criminal infraction that could lead to 30 days in jail. Also, if someone was to hit your snow pile and end in an accident that kills them, then you are now looking at manslaughter charges. Again, please check your local/state laws before pushing snow into, or even across, a road/street. I would advise no one to push snow out of their property for safety. If you can't find a way to move the snow without it leaving your property, then you have the wrong equipment IMHO. Above all be safe when dealing with power equipment, especially in the cold.

In one of your videos about winter tips, you had mentioned to not drive on the snow before clearing the driveway, that way it doesn't leave packed tracks that are hard to scrape off. With a real pull blower, you're have to drive on it first, does it still do a good job? Also, how does it work with deep snow? I had about 14" of snow in the driveway this morning, more by the road because of the plow.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you get to it immediately like with the blower, not a big deal. If you drive over repeatedly or with your cars, that's totally different. Packs it down hard then. I've had to create deep piled like in this video at the bottom of the driveway. It's at least a foot deep in that snow pile. Handles it fine.

Nothing scrapes through snow that’s been driven on over and over. It scrapes many areas of the driveway that haven’t. This is explained in the video. Same results with a plow, snowblower, or bucket edge. Don’t drive over your snow too much before clearing if you can help it.

Just curious… I was surprised to see the snow tailings from the HLA. I’m contemplating getting a 2025 with either a blade or pusher. Should the pusher have the sides the same length as the top? Also, does the HLA have a metal scrape edge or other? I use a 425 w/46” thrower and it’s awesome ONLY with a metal scrape edge. I put a polycarbonate edge on and what a disaster! It just cannot scrape or clean like metal. Put the metal one on after doing 2 snowfalls (60 driveways later) and won’t look back. Great video… I find snow removal very satisfying and with a recent townhouse contract, I’m really leaning towards that 2025 w/cab! Thx!
