25F at 50 MPH is pretty cold. My hands can't take that anymore without the bar muffs. And to pamper myself I have heated gloves and heated grips. My days of heating my hands on the muffler or headlight are behind me. One of the important drawbacks of LED headlights is no hand warming capabilities. The landscape is beautiful with the dusting of snow. It must be a lot dryer where you're riding. We get so much water running across roads from springs, melts, and such that you can't really go around curves when it's below freezing without really slowing down. I've been surprised a few times by big sheets of ice. No fun when you're leaning. I watched the other EVAP video but didn't comment. I never had any issues with mine though. Instead I got wobble.... A great video. I need to figure out how to quiet my helmet audio. I have way more engine noise than you do. Maybe my helmet isn't great.

I'm pretty cold tolerant, those less and less as each year passes, LOL! I like riding in the cold. I've done some long trips on the big bike and it has brush guards which help with the wind. Never been spoiled with heated anything (or cruise control ;-). On those trips I'll wear wind and waterproof motorcycle pants and I put a gortex style jacket over my Klim motorcycle jacket and I usually stay warm enough, though sometimes my fingers still get cold after some hours. My motorcycle boots are pretty warm. In warmer weather I get hot easily and even just wearing a helmet make me sweat like crazy! It is very dry here and the sun is pretty intense so on days like today the snow just sublimates into airborne water vapor it seems. The snow will melt and leave dry concrete. I don't know what to say about the GoPro audio. It can be a tough nut to crack. If you are using a mic in your helmet, try a deadcat on it if you haven't already, and make sure your audio setting in-camera is set to "Standard Mic" NOT "Standard Mic+". My camera kept switching to Standard Mic+ and it would boost the mic signal to the point where I had clipping. I don't remember which GoPro you are using, but the Hero 10, 9, 8, etc. may also process audio differently... Good luck!

Thanks for the update. For what it’s worth, my Vespa has the evap system and I live in Canada. So it’s in our bikes, too. It would be great if you put your video back up if you have time as it’s a good reference for doing one’s own ‘evapodectomy.’ I’m glad things are running well now, what a beautiful cold ride you had! There is snow and ice on our roads so riding season here is over (at least for me!)

I think it’s so cool to ride scooters versus motorbikes… I just ordered a brand new 2023 Suzuki and they’re so practical for storage and insurance is 1/3 of the price of a motorbike. I can’t wait to hit the roads after the snow melts.

Snow! I'm not ready for it! Really enjoyed your video yesterday with the how to extract/cap off the evap system. Not sure what you do professionally but your method of instruction strikes me either as that of a teacher/professor or engineer. Either way, I'd like to cast my "yes" vote for you to edit and reupload your evap instructional video. The more vespa DIY videos on YT the better. Ride safe.

I'm not ready for the riding season to end either! Thanks for the feedback on the evap video. I'm not any of those, just a bit of a geek I guess! :-) Happy riding!

Snow? I'm unfamiliar with it. I've seen it on videos and photos. I am aware that if our local news mentions it, everything shuts down. Nice gloves!! Yes, that is a great view over the lake!!!!

I really enjoyed this one, beautiful scenery to say the least. I'm left to wonder something though . . . it would seem that the Evap system was initially working properly your first few hundred miles. I know your scooter is practically new so . . . is something in the Evap system failing very, veery prematurly ? I think you mentioned possibly a check valve. If this is the case, Vespa should issue a recall and fix this issue pronto. I like you, probably would have gone the same route and just removed and capped off the system as you say, it is required in CA only. Funny . . . my Mercedes 2005 SLK 350 roadster has a fan which kicks on for the first 30 seconds to one minute to supposedly "Pump" extra oxygen "Air" into the Induction System until the catalytic convertor heats up. I'm sure this added a few hundred dollars of extra cost to the vehicle and at the end of the day, does it really make any appreciable difference in reducing smog emmissions ?
@flatgrindrides

It seems that, generally speaking, there is a lot of complexity added to vehicles to meet the ever tightening emission standards. It is kind of ironic. Everything comes with a cost, sometimes hidden costs. Like EV's that may not have tailpipe emissions, but require HUGE mineral extraction to be manufactured in the first place, and batteries to be recycled or disposed of, not to mention power generation for regular recharging. As for the evap system on my bike, I can't say for sure, but I doubt that it is a valve failing, though it is possible. My best guess is that it is fuel in the system. On the very first fill-up, the pump did not shut off before the fuel overflowed. On the next couple fill-ups, as I recall, I experimented with changing the angle of the filler nozzle and even not sticking it in all the way to see if that helped with the pump shut-off/overflow issue. It is very possible that I managed to fill the evap system with fuel when I did this. At the time I hadn't read anything about it, and had no idea that there was vent/overflow opening in the neck of the filler tube! My best guess is that it was simply full of overflow fuel. But then I decided to just remove it after weeks of trying to carefully fill the tank and waiting for the farting and other issues to go away, but seeing no change. No issues now and it is running the best it ever has!

Thanks! I think the mistake I made was not having the fuel filler pushed all the way down into the neck of the tank. My guess is that if you have had your bike for a little while and have filled it up a number of times and not had problems, then you probably won’t. Good luck and many happy miles👍

I have the same color 2022 Vespa GTS as yours. I'm at about 3K miles right now. I had the CEL come on around 1K or so. I had been spilling gas each time I filled the tank, and I was refilling about every 3 days. I used a cheap OBD2 scanner and adapter cable to read the code. It was P0130, which is an oxygen sensor fault; in this case I think it's the engine running too rich (due to sucking in fumes from the evap cannister?). My bike also idled very rough, and I believe the fan also kicked on. Since then I've been more careful not to spill gas (it can be done, lol) and also riding a bit less and haven't gotten the error again. I still hear the Vespa farts after a long ride, though! Any idea if removing the evap system affects the factory warranty?
@flatgrindrides
@flatgrindrides Жыл бұрын
Sounds familiar! With some pumps that have a high flow rate it can be really hard not to overfill such a small tank! As for the warranty, that’s a question for your dealer. I’ve heard some people say yes and some people say no. If you do end up asking your dealer, I would be curious to know what they say. Good luck and enjoy that orange beauty!
@flatgrindrides

I forgot to add, that is the same code that mine was throwing. It cleared and has not returned since I removed the evap assembly. I don’t know for sure but I’m guessing that you are correct about the air fuel mixture being rich and with the extra fumes from the canister coming in unmetered.

I don't recall whether or not you mentioned checking your coolant reservoir.....? It's possible your fan issue has temporarily subsided because it's cold there.. Just looking out... Enjoy your videos🛵
@flatgrindrides
@flatgrindrides Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I didn't mention it, but I did check it. The level was good, and unchanged from the last service. Weather wise, this is the coldest it has been, so it is weird that the fan would come on in colder weather. Also, yesterday I plugged it into the scanner and it showed one code: P0115 Engine Coolant Temp Circuit. I cleared it, and will see if it comes back as I ride more.
