First Solo Landaway Flight | Bristol To Cardiff | ATC Audio

My first Solo Landaway flight to Cardiff. After departing Bristol Airport I route North to Avonmouth in order to cross a narrower part of the Severn Estuary / Bristol Channel. Once across at Caldicot I route along the Welsh coastline enjoying spectacular views of Newport and Cardiff Docks before the final approach into Cardiff Airport.

Awesome video, its nice to see a student in a good old piper instead of one of those diamonds. Insane seeing the Qatar 787 at CWL too.

Takes me back a long time back, thanks for sharing !. A couple of things I have learned over the years which may assist, in the cruise spend sometime being precise with the trimming it helps considerably when holding precise altitude especially for your check ride, never be afraid of leaning in the cruise the lycoming 0-320 likes to be leaned, the engine also hates carb heat when it is not necessary tends to cause backfiring at low rpm especially when running rich, which these always do, hardly ever will you find the need here to use carb heat, here in the UK, I recall Piper issuing a POH update in the early 90s covering this aspect and the importance of leaning. Thanks Wayne for taking the time to watch and to comment. Being my first solo landaway the majority of my focus was to not miss anything crucial. I learned many lessons on this flight especially as it was really blustery at times, on approach and landing.

I understand, try not to get frustrated with it. When things improve you would be welcome to ride along as passenger when I fly.
