First Steps When Launching Your Clothing Brand

I am super excited to take you guys on this journey with me as I build my brand "Doing Everything Different". In this uncut raw new series, I am going to take you guys behind the scenes and show you step by step how we design and launch products, create original content to help tell our story and build relationships along the way.
I will be releasing one video every week on Thursdays @ 8 am (PST). If you want to stay up to date, make sure to subscribe and turn the bell notifications on.

ABOUT ME:
My name is Devin Lars, and I've been an entrepreneur since I started selling airbrushed t-shirts out of my grandfather's garage in high school. I'm the Founder and CEO of Kurieo, a creative agency specializing in fusing digital marketing with the physical world. Building an agency (which started as a manufacturing company) has been a journey. I didn't go the traditional route, taking business classes, or starting out as an intern and working my way up. Those weren't options for me. But I had a vision, and I was determined to make it work. I found mentors, I jumped in and learned through experience. Things weren't always smooth, but I always took the lessons to heart, and it's gotten me where I am today.
Kurieo has worked with some of the biggest brands in the world, like Starbucks, Tesla, the NBA, Nike, Sequoia Capital, and more. I've spent more than 15 years building the foundation for Kurieo, and I just want to share that knowledge with everyone else who is chasing a dream.

Devin this is so important! My business partner is all about how she wants to make money on the e-comm and she misses the concept of creating content. I believe I may have to let her go. As much as she has been so understanding. She is not very supportive of the content but blames me for not selling anything. We have only been on this for two months. I designed so much for her. Almost two months worth of designs.

Hi!! I’m just starting out as well and that was great I information. I’m actually doing T-shirt and hoodies, I also have some of my design coming out as well which I think they are very unique. Wow, I think it’s just so amazing and mind boggling how I stumbled on your video. This video… I’m currently going through a difficult situation with a new business venture and our recent issue has been personality “challenges” amongst partners (aka friends). Certain individuals feel their creative direction is the only direction and have a difficult time taking “no” or “possibly later” as answers. We are hoping to set a standard in policy and agreements as this is an equal partnership of four people, but some members are feeling this venture will not work out.

I know this is an old comment but it's too many people. In a restaurant do you have 2 head chefs? No. Unless three agree to listen to one it won't work, and it most likely won't because friends and business don't mix.

How do i sell my products if i dont physically have the product yet. I have the logo and the brand i have a supplier but how can i gain a following or even know if people want to buy that logo since i dont even have a product to market or show people?

Nice material man. I've been working my brand since about 2004 and I still love it. One reason I've been stuck is the same thing you touch on here- lack of delegation. I try to do it all myself, still. Maybe I'll try the sticky notes.

Delegation is so important. It is literally the difference between success and failure. Try putting those sticky notes around your house. That really helped me.

I guess one problem I have is that I don't seem to know a lot of people that are interested in doing what I do. I've tried placing job ads but that seems to get a lot of flakes. I understand completely that it takes time, sometimes a very long time. But what I've learned is that you just have to keep trying to make progress, even if it seems like you're not making significant advances. Working on it consistently will get you there. Even if you can't hire a full-time team, consider looking into hiring freelancers to help out.

Devin. Which came first? Your brand or your agency?

Great question. We basically started them at the same time. We figured the money we made from the agency we could invest in our brand. Throughout the years the agency has always taken priority because we didn't have a big enough team to effectively do both. We are finally at the point to be able to put an entire team on the Brand so it's really exciting because it's been something I've wanted to do since 2008 when we started it LOL.
