Coming from a GS after 60 000 km of touring on all types of terrain, I find the T7 the best bike ever built. Its beauty is in its simplicity. You can tour on it, but you can also ride off-ride like a beast. No fear, 100% confidence. And that is all because of the bike, not my experience. I sorted the fuel challenge by fixing a 2l fuel canister on either side of the engine protection bars, inside a durable offroad crash bar bag. Now I ride with enough surety that I will not run out of fuel. The weight is nice and low so that it does not interfere with the dynamics and balance. BEST BIKE EVER BUILT!

You will always learn a lot on a long trip. About yourself, the bike, and your gear. I have over 50k on my T7 and have no desire for another bike, it just works. There are improvements that can be made (especially suspension) but not many are truly needed.

That fuel bladder is just so easy to carry. I've used it in patagonia for fuel insurance It's a no-brainer and very little hassle

Just check the service costs of the Tuareg before you jump ship from Yamaha! My local dealer is charging $1800+ for the 12k mile service. Most expensive was $2200! The Tuareg is the bike I want, just can’t justify those costs, and thats coming from a former Ducati and BMW rider! Lol Great video! Thanks for sharing!

Really glad you’re enjoying that bike. I remember commenting on your video where you said you were a little nonplussed by the whole thing. I had a feeling the more time you spend on it the more you would enjoy it. I have 25,000 on mine, and have done mostly off-road on it. I did beef up my suspension and put quite a few other of the standard upgrades to make it how I wanted but I think the bike is one of the best all around you could ever purchase and it’s also extremely reliable, which is a huge plus. Try putting a larger sprocket up front. One more tooth did it for me. It drops the rpm’s 4 to 500 on the Hwy for a little better mileage and still has great power for anything off-road. Stock chain works fine with the change.

Congratulations on the quality of your filming. Scenic backgrounds with varied settings. The lighting aspect is good and the audio is perfect. Adding those short on board segments breaks it up and your pace of delivery is good. Much better production than the vast majority of owners

I have the white red T7 and put the Clear Acerbic Tank on, it's lighter than stock so the extra fuel sort of balances out a fair bit. When I filled it first time I marked it in 2Litre increments, Can get about 24 litres in it, and do 500km in a pinch. No fuel anxiety now as you can see exactly what range you have left, about 40 safe km per mark. Love the bike, only top heavy when rolling around garage and stopped in bad terrain. As you know once your rolling that all goes away and feels more stable and confidence inspiring than my old wr250r.

Always think If Paul Tarres didn’t break a linkage and there is no report of anyone on the forums that did you may just caused that rock locking device for yourself…😂 I think it’s a 1 in a million incident and you shouldn’t make any hasty decision based on it. Thanks for sharing 🙏

Brake did a great bit on suspension options for the T7 (Expensive vs Mid-Range vs Cheap Suspension Mods | The T7 Project EP #003). While you are in there you might consider both the spring and piston update from K-Tech (one of the three options mentioned in that bit). The range is actually pretty good, but the giant reserve so many of these bikes run ends up giving you range anxiety.

T7 is a beast. It just keep rolling :-)

The ugliest thing on that bike are those turn signal lights

2 years and 20k on the T7. Honestly the engine doesn't mind being at lower RPMs. If you are doing technical riding, sure, keep it high, but for dirt travel etc I always click it in to 6 and just use it there. There is an 'ECO' badge as well on the display. The worst for me is the windscreen and the buffeting though. Everyone complains about cruise, but there are no cruise on any Yamaha CP2. Bike is top heavy, when you have to pick her up 😅 That being said, I've went over some CLIBBINS a few times and haven't broken anything yet, thanks Outback motortek. Solid bike

Hey Matt, love your videos and your take on things. Interesting details on the linkage - I haven’t paid much attention to that. I don’t own a T7, but I’ve ridden many hwy miles and dirt roads on one. I’ve had a short stint in true off-road (steep, loose single track). My only hesitation to switching out my dr650 is the top heavy weight when it gets technical, otherwise I love this bike. I didn’t find the fuel mileage that bad, but likely because I’m used to the small stock tank of the DR and always carry fuel. Long story short, this is one of my top choice s for the everything bike. I've had my T7 for a year & a half now--love the bike but I agree it should have cruise control. I have a throttle lock also, but it's a poor substitute for electronic version. I carry a fuel bladder when riding out west as I too don't feel comfortable with the fuel range. Nice how you use the San Rafael Valley as your video backdrop--love riding there!

Good video. I considered the T7 when I was looking for a lighter bike than my 2017 Africa Twin. I decided on the Transalp mostly because it felt so much lighter sitting on it and moving it around the show room. The T7 felt just as heavy as my AT. The Transalp felt almost as light as my DR 650. I will agree the T7 will probably handle a BDR better but fireroads are as much as I plan on now

Good review or the bike, I had a 2021 that I rode across the USA twice last year, and the back roads of AZ. I sold it for a Vstrom but I regretted it and just picked up a 2022 same as yours with the Yamaha racks and boxes. Fuel range was my biggest issue, and plan to put an Acerbis 6 gallon tank in natural color on the bike, I like the blue tank but hate the limited range more. Tubeless was next so I will go the Barttubeless on the rear and leave the easier to change tube tire on front. My Vstrom1050 has cruise, but I rarely use it, a throttle lock works fine for me. Cruise is Meh, to me, I'm not a cruise control dependent rider. A 16 tooth countershaft sprocket will get you better mileage on the highway by bringing down the RPM and does not hut the low-end performance that much. I will be riding my new T-ray across the USA again this year and love the comfort and lay out. Never had a linkage issue, a lot of MX bike I have owned have the linkage as the lowest point, it gets hit now and then but never an issue. Thanks for the report.

The gas cap is ungodly dumb. T7rally from the UK has a cnc flip mod . Super well made & worth ordering.

Rode a stock Tenere, and a factory lowered one again this past weekend at a Rally. The lowered version really changes the bike with my 30" inseam. I bottomed out both bikes in the sand pit, so the extra height of stock is not much help anyway! - Frank

Mods to consider, Acerbis clear tank, you can see the fuel level at a glance and no need to carry a fuel bladder. Looks good and you can go over 230 miles before hitting reserve. 2wheel dynoworks ECU remap makes the motor pull much stronger from 3 thousand rpm on up and gets rid of any twitchy feel truly transforms the bike. Better springs is a must but the next level is Ohlins cartridge kit up front and rear shock. Camel ADV rear brake kit also. And why I am spending your money a seat concepts upgrade.

HAHA! Everything you were saying about the T7 was making me answer Tuareg 660. I just picked up a used Tuareg, and I'm super impressed with it. A great upgrade from the ADV 390, which I still have. The sound of the bike is awesome! The ride is great and wonderful features. Definitely a bigger bike on technical trails than the 390, but such is the world. The dealership network and possible parts availability is my only concerns, but with such a great bike I'm hoping Aprilia grows here in the states.

a missing cruise control is just a bit of inconvenience but not a bad thing, drive by wire has absolute not the same feedback like cable operated throttle. You are the first person who is complaining about the locked linkage, but I guess thats your bash plate you fitted. Have fun with the T7

Suspension is number 1 on my list and then a higher screen. I will fit my Denali D4's when I get a chance. I hoped of a well modified Africa twin for the Tenere as its dimensions and weight give me more confidence on and off road

I was able to ride a well farkled Transalp today in South Carolina sand and mud. The Tenere was just moved to #3 in mid-sized for me. Tuareg Transalp Tenere

I recently bought a used fully stock 2023 T7 with only 2k miles lastfall. Suspension was the very ugly for me, ended up buying a rally raid setup... maybe a bit overkill, but it does very well off road now. Bad, the 4 gallon gas tank... the CP2 engine gets really thirsty in the high revs. Im sure ill be find with maybe a extra gallon tank strapped to the bike for now. The good, so much good with the T7. I find it to be a great 50/50 on/off road bike.

I upgraded my suspension with just stiffer springs front and rear. cruise control would be nice of course but throttle lock is good enough to rest hand for a bit. fuel range is on par with any bike that doesn't have a extra large tank(such as Africa Twin Adventure sport). I also carry fuel bladder if i know stops are close to the 200mile mark. I have the AXP skid plate that covers rear linkage haven't had any issues with it when going over logs or rocks yet. Review is pretty on par though with the general consensus! lol Like you said you have to try it out for yourself to see if you'll like it. T7 sells a big dream but not everyone is Pol Tarres!

Question? How much fuel is in the tank or how far can you drive when the indicator starts flashing?

Purchased a new 24 T7 a couple weeks ago. So far, here my good, bad, and ugly... Bad would be the stock tires. I dont have a lot of confidence in the front bite on loose gravel with the scorpions. Also wish it had the 6.2 fuel tank from the factory. My bike is black, i am on the fence about purchasing the larger tank. I also wish the gas cap was attached. I dont like that it comes all the way off the tank. The only ugly so far is the ABS. I wish you could turn it off and leave it off. The fact that it all turns back on every time you re-start the bike is dangerous. I believe if someone was not thinking about it, they could get in real trouble off-road. Other then that I really like everything about it so far. Question, what bags did you go with and why? I am looking at the Tusk Highland X2's or the Giant Loop Coyote. Interested in your thoughts.

Interesting what you say about wind, i have a ninja 650 which is way low to the ground, an when on the tenere its so tall an the fairings are flat so it feels like im really getn thrown around by the wind

And how did your new luggage system hold do, you could'nt really test that at the time because of the snow?

Tuareg is far superior in all ways…and well worth the premium …as in cruise control, tubeless wheels and suspension…

I have 27000 miles, and I am getting anywhere from 55mpg to 57mpg and ride at 5500 rpm and higher. Maybe over time, you may get better gas mileage. I agree with having a cruise control. Also if you are going to keep it for long term I would invest in some tubeless wheels like the Alpine's. I know they are expensive, but it sure is nice to be able to have a set for traveling and street riding and a set for dirt ripping. Have fun with it and ride hard.

Just put a stronger bash plate on it as for fuel it is what it is youl just have to carry extra fuel and plan fuel stops, it sure has the power for touring

Interesting how each of our perceptions are different. I owned a T7 for about 5000 miles and thought it was the worst bike I have ever owned in the wind. I mean from a cross wind perspective. I would get a sudden gust of wind that would blow me so hard it felt dangerous. I have had 8 other ADV bikes, and even my light WR250R and CRF300L Rally do not catch wind like this bike. I was also fine with the suspension and fuel range. To each his own experience . . . . Cheers for your thoughts,

Ive test rode the T7 and really liked it but have really been concerned about the range and would hate that the fuel light comes on early. Im more of a road and light off road rider and have been looking for a Transalp but they are hard to find without a high markup.

Good video.. don't know about many of the issues.. under sprung is week one, week two but certainly never ignored before going loaded on any trip!! And it should be but yet another message that manufacturers are not listening to.. American riders are 180-220lbs and some gear and stock suspension on most bikes is for a 160 pound person..all of the bikes are dishonest and set up for 90-10 and the 10% off road is dirt roads and nothing technical.. the fuel range is an issue on this bike and others.. and Yamaha is the only answer, they only made 4 colors and a metal tank w a gallon+ more at $450-600 bucks wouldn't make sense . the tanks that are backwards engineered usually are decent but Yamaha could make something much easier and better than anyone else. Cruise control issue is solved on latest model I think.. but bikes simplicity was part of it's appeal.. bigger windshield, heated grips, cruise control, better LCD, lowering linkage, and additional fuel capacity keep pushing the price and horsepower needs and they are already building the 900cc triple that was super good seller on the road.. have a feeling that the 900 is going to be popular also.. the T7 sort of made Yamaha stop at the lower bores and they still should make a WR450 or 500..in my opinion.. but the entire sector is becoming saturated!!! CFMoto,Kove and some others all 800-400cc

The Aprilia was a want for me, but the dealer is 3hours away around Chicago. My 390 will have to do unless i win the lottery. Puting a cruise on the 390 now because the midwest is full of long straight roads.
