I wouldn't say that they invented it. There were several bands that were moving in the direction. Sabbath was just the first band that was undeniably, unquestionably, unapologetically metal. There's a video on yt called metal before black sabbath, I think, if you're interested. I think the narrator calls the release of Black Sabbath (the album) metal's year zero

I would say very of the father of metal bands there were a lot of bands that helped invent the genre without going there. The Beatles with Helter skelter, steppenwolf with magic carpet Ride, and countless others

Black Sabbath is the originators of metal. Ozzy did his part, but it's the sum of the parts that makes this band the greatest metal band ever. Tony is the riff god. Geezer is the template for bassists to follow. Drummer Bill Ward is a wizard combining heavy blows with the smooth touches of a jazz drummer.

Iron Man was a time traveler. He went to the future to save mankind from some cataclysmic event. When he returned he was caught in a magnetic field and turned to steel. People didn't listen to his warnings about the apocalypse and mocked him. In revenge, he became the very thing that killed mankind.
@bobsavage3317
@bobsavage3317 2 жыл бұрын
I think this is also social commentary. Iron Man is a returned veteran who who is broken by what he experienced. Unfortunately society doesn't welcome or help him in any way. Finally Iron Man turns on those who used, then mocked him.

FYI - the audio on the song for this one was too muted = you NEED to check out Ozzy solo work with the great Randy Rhodes (RIP) who died way too young by a stupid airplane stunt gone wrong. Dad knew Randy and said he was a gentle and talented soul. His guitar skills are incredible and not nearly enough of todays music lovers know of him. #crazytrain #blizzardofoz

Yes, agreed, not the best sound on many live recordings, you need to do the studio versions, much better sonic experience, not even close. They played great live, I know. I saw them many times, it is the recording and mix that often does not do them justice. Please listen to the album versions, those will last forever. 🎸

They were originally a more jazzy blues band called Earth. Guitarist Tony Iommi had a accident in a steel workshop that cut off his fingertips. He uses leather fashioned thimbles for his fingertips. To be able to play guitar even though he can't feel the strings which is why you always seem looking at the guitar. Because of which he invented his own heavier distorted style of playing the guitar which metal is now known for.

What happened, back in the day was that there were television shows that bands would appear on and the performances were recorded for use at a later time. There was no plan or making videos as you know them until MTV began to mine the old footage for play in the 8o's. Just before that a singer, duo, or group would record something for a popular program to play and boost ratings. But when MTV came along these crude or early clips helped to show classic rock bands to an audience of an era recently past. Then the music video was used to promote new artists to the public and record companies to sell their music and image and guarantee sales. It worked pretty well for along time. The production values went up as the medium grew more popular often including fashion to further sell the music. It would still be popular today if the corporate big wigs hadn't killed the Golden goose.

The recordings from 1970 come from a German television show in which well-known or aspiring international musicians mostly presented themselves live without an audience. The video overlay has nothing to do with the band or the music, but comes from the ideas of the TV editorial team. The technical equipment of the TV station and the possibilities for live and post-production were probably up to date and so we owe this TV show, apart from the questionable post-production, the highest quality historical documents of the music scene of that time.

Iron Man was a comic Book character, from way back. This was the first , or at least one of what was considered to be "Heavy Metal" Bands. That term wasn't even coined back then, but Black Sabbath and it's "Bat head biting" Front Man, Englishman "Ozzie Osbourne," Were playing a whole new Genre of Rock music. This was Back in 1970 or 71. The rest is History.

One suggestion, if you do any of their classic songs live, always listen to the studio originals, even if just for your own musical education. The studio originals are the definitive versions that people will be listening to far in the future. If you want live, try their shows in Paris 1970 or at the California Jam in 1974. Try War Pigs, Paranoid and Warning. Enjoy! 🎸

New subscriber here. Love the content. Looking forward to watching more reactions. I might have missed it but if you haven't seen Korn perform "Blind" the first night at Woodstock 99 you really should check it out. You will love it. Keep being awesome Y'all!!

I really dig the reaction with the video behind. Very different, but really, really with Black Sabbath no Ozzy?...lol...subscribed with that back ground...lol

There was no outlet to show vids way back when. Many groups did vids only for Record Label executives.
