I have now watched well over 100 reaction videos to this song. I live for that moment where the reviewer goes from the need to "Explain" things or other chatty comments to the moment of realization they have nothing to say, and instead need to just experience it in stunned silence. It is like I'm experiencing the song for the first time again.

This and Johnny Cash's "Hurt" have to be two of the best covers ever. They gave a whole new meaning and life to the originals, which were great on their own. The live performance of Disturbed on Conan is also amazing. I doubted I would like it as much as this since the video imagery is so compelling, but I'm glad to be wrong.

Disturbed has been one of my favorite bands for about 20 years. I suspect this is recommended because it shows off David's vocal ability, and is more palatable for those who may not like the heavy they normally bring. That said, I have never heard a bad Disturbed song.

Ah the incomparable David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He is so unique as he actually puts vibrato on his distortion!....also VERY difficult to do...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction.

78 year old female here...I graduated high school when this song originally came out (1964). It was a "cute ditty" that really did not resonate with any of my age group...yeah, S & G got a new hit, yeah, it's cool, just sing along...snore. When I heard Disturbed's version a couple of years ago, I just sat in shock...the words actually spoke to me. I had been a bartender, cocktail waitress, musician all in New Orleans, finally joined the Air Force in 1973, spent more than 20 years in, did a lot of other "stuff" but it took this version of the song to Gibbs slap me and make me realize what S & G had actually written.

I wasn't around when Simon and Garfunkel did this, but I've heard it. I will say Disturbed's version is the best I've heard. When Paul Simon (the writer) texted David (lead singer of Disturbed) and told him that this song now belongs to Disturbed, what an honor. Disturbed does more metal, but I did love the duet with David and Ann Wilson (from Heart). Very versatile band. One of my favorites. Thanks for playing it through...it is one of those kind of songs. Great reaction ❤

You’re the second person who interpreted the song to be about music, that thought never entered my mind. To me the message of the song remains the same as when Simon and Garfunkel sang it in 1964. Disturbed brought it into 21st-century when almost all hope is gone and they did it brilliantly!

I am so glad you did this one Zack. Disturbed is my guilty pleasure. As you know I’m a huge PTX fan, but when I heard this video and heard David’s voice I actually got sucked into listening to their music. I cannot stand metal, which is what they are. But anything David sings and I’m there for it. I’m sure others have already told you he was trained as a Cantor which is where he gets his amazing vocal abilities from but also the power behind them. He is a very angry man who is disgusted with society. His songs carry very powerful messages. I’ve actually learned to enjoy their music. Like I said anything David sings. You’ll probably be recommended to listen to their biggest hit DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS if you watch anything other than the official video you will get to hear the third verse that is cut out of that video. I will let you know right now that when he’s talking about mother, he is referring to society not his mom. Between listening to this and PTX I tend to get whiplash. As always, I very much enjoy your reactions. Some suggestions of my favorites… they have one mellow one called HOLD ON TO MEMORIES and a few melloish 😉 A REASON TO FIGHT…THE LIGHT. But some of their harder stuff…STRICKEN…STUPIFY…PRAYER. Anyway, glad you did this. Also people will tell you to watch the version of this on the Conan O’Brien show. They will tell you that he was sick with the flu but actually, I saw an interview with him and he had a bleeding lesion on his vocal cord, which makes that performance all the more mind blowing. I don’t see that anybody gave you a lot of history on them. They’ve been together since 1994 and are considered one of the top metal bands in the world. I’m sure others will disagree but since they’re the only group I like that’s metal I guess I’m a little prejudiced. 🤗💋🥰

If you’ve "never heard a build’ arrangement like that, check out classical music…this is a standard low entrance, big build to grand crescendo classical arrangement. Most old world composers symphonies are like this. A good short example is Griegs In The Hall Of The Mountain King. I tell people this is a gateway drug to classical music. He’s trained classically {but is a fantastic metal singer) so in essence you’ve heard an operatic performance backed by an orchestra in a classical style arrangement. A good operatic example is O Fortuna, Carmen Burrano. As always, I enjoy watching the stunned "silence".🤣🤣🤣
