Living in the Class B veil gives plenty of experience communicating with ATC and making it a pleasure to talk with them. Here in New Orleans they are very accommodating. I used to fly to Tampa regularly years ago. Great video, thanks for all the hard work.

I’ve flown into Bravo airports many times through the years in our Bonanza. DFW is our most frequent because we live in Texas. Fly there rather than drive most occasions when dropping off or picking up passengers. There is only one GA FBO on field (Corporate Aviation) and they roll out the red carpet for a single engine airplane...along with chauffeured service to and from the terminals. The $75 landing fee isn’t bad when you consider the time savings as well as the fees you pay at the toll booths when driving. Really busy Bravos can be intimidating if you aren’t very comfortable with radio communications. I always tell folks to anticipate what they want you to do because (as you indicated in your video) it’s generally pretty easy to predict what they will tell you next. Also, become familiar with the layouts of the taxiways because they can be the most difficult to navigate if you don’t know the airport layout and the taxiway procedures. Every time I fly into DFW is a fun experience. The controllers are always so nice and generally say something like “hope to see you again soon” because we’re the ONLY single engine airplane on the field. It’s pretty surreal when you see that as you taxi around.

To this day I still love watching your stuff. I said during my flight training I like flying into controlled airports because they tell you what to do. It’s easy. I lived a charmed PP ASEL life, I guess. My flight school was on PHNL, so all of my early flying was in and out of Class B airspace, flying and taxiing in close proximity to heavies. Never gave it a second thought once I got my first clearance request under my belt, but I’ll confess my knees were shaking and I botched the readback. Major airports around the outer islands were in Class C airspace, so I got familiar with those procedures as well. When I moved to FL (near KTPA), I felt naked at first flying out of the surrounding airports there. The procedures and ATC interaction at Class B and C airports simplify your life considerably, since you’re always getting instructions or following set arrival and departure procedures. Fewer decisions to make, so less chance of mistakes.

Work everyday as an LEO helo pilot in the Bravo in Orlando and the controllers are awesome when it comes to giving us such flexibility to do our job. They bend over backwards to let us move in and around the arrival and departure corridors so we can catch the bad guys! Without them our job would be so less effective that we might as well not even lift! Best advice get the training if you haven’t and don’t be afraid to use the services that they offer you in the Bravo!!

Gidday you two. Kim, have your made bookings for your first training flights yet?!!!! You guys are now at 76.3k. Love your nails and your dress style too. You're pushing those Avidyne GPS buttons like a seasoned pro. Oh, you need a can/cup holder Kim! :) My local airport is NZCH, where I learnt to fly way back in 1989-90, in trusty Piper "Traumahawks" in amongst BAE146s, B732s, B762s and the odd B744, with the summer season USAF transports and Air National Guard C130s flying to/from Antarctica, so got used to taxying and flying around with the heavies quite quickly! Our little grass runway of 1700ft is parallel to the single monster 10kft sealed runway, so I don't think you'd find that scenario in the USA at any Class B airports these days! Quite often, post PPL, if I was out flying one of the larger PA28s or a C172, and on final for the main runway, I'd have to keep my "speed up" to over 100kts quite often, land long, and turn off quickly before being mowed down by a landing B732! The tower controllers knew how to space us all as GA planes have operated since forever at Christchurch, so it was never an issue. Looking forward to the next video from you, as usual, David

This is helpful. Am on the verge of getting my PPL (in a long queue for the checkride, bad weather and scheduling challenges have backed things up) and am looking forward to a trips to visits friends and relatives. Am planning to simply avoid Class B, e.g. slightly adjust course down the coast of FL (from N GA area) to avoid Orlando (planning at 9500', not quite high enough and don't want to go to 11,500' in a Diamond DA20 or even DA40 without O2 or something). And heading north to KLUK to visit fam that lives quite nearby, I think it'd make more sense to nav to I69, descending outside Class B, and then go west to KLUK for the last 10nm of descent, staying below the Class B shelf. But someday it would be cool to enter, if not land at a primary in, a Bravo. Haven't reviewed any of this with a CFI yet, as my wife and I have a lot of practicing at shorter XC's to work up to these trips (she's taken 3 lessons in a Sim so far), but it's fun to plan and dream!

I landed at Lincoln, NE in a 182 last summer at night. It isn't Class B (I have gone into Class B before) but it has a 14,700' runway 35 on which I was cleared to land. The FBO was at the North end of the field and the tower cleared me to land long to avoid a LONG taxi. I landed on the last 4,000' of the runway. It was strange letting that much pavement pass under me before touchdown.
@BaronPilot

That would suck to run off the end of a 14,700’ runway cause you miscalculated 😂😂

Yeah there’s that additional safety in operating in Class B/C airports eg positive control, Doppler radar for wind shear, excellent services including Mx. Downside is long taxis and high AVgas prices. I always fly into these airports IFR (khou, kiah, kord) ie not VFR. Taxiing not very confusing as I often get progressive. PS very attractive daughter

G, day Baron Pilot, the twin Beechcraft landed gracefully at Tampa International (class B airspace). 1. Instruction from tower AGL change 3000ft on decent and approach. Why the alteration? 2. D-ATIS is that digital air traffic information service? Mentioned in the ATIS is bird activity, I'm not convinced. "Keep the blue side up and brown down". 🌏🇭🇲
