Following our previous flight where we practiced slow flight and cleaned up the ground reference maneuver, s-turns, Mike and I scheduled another flight. We were slated to practice stalls and steep turns, however the low lying cloud layer wouldn't let us get high enough above our minimum safe altitude for recovery. We adjusted, and I introduced Mike to the traffic pattern at Orlando Executive.
Enjoy!

I love this student! He listened carefully, watched everything he could, asked questions when he didn't understand something (instead of just hoping he could do it later), and executed a beautiful pattern. Lewis, keep flying with Mike! He's going to be an excellent pilot.

“I don’t think I’ve got this, it’s really bumpy.” “Gonna need your help on this” I still remember both of these things to my instructor when i was starting my private pilot training. You do such a great job of keeping him calm by not only what you say to him and the complements you give him but also by the confidence that you have. Confidence is contagious especially when your new to flying and both of your lives are on the line. During my training I always felt like after takeoff it seemed to be a video game until I was coming in to land, that’s when **** got real. You’re great at your craft sir, I really wish I was able to have you as an instructor instead of someone who I couldn’t even crack a joke with nor say a cuss word. By the way I’m a new supporter, been subscribed for a while though, and I look forward to seeing more of your content!

Thanks for joining the Legion! And thank you for the kind words in this comment. There’s too many people in aviation with sticks up their backsides because they think you have to be fearful of your instructor or as you say, can’t crack a smile or use any bad language. That’s not the way I operate. Flying is always fun and learning to fly should be no different. Thanks man!

Great work there by both as far as I can see. Awesome work from the student and fantastic instruction. I started my PPL in January and managed all the theory and completed all my exams two days before lockdown happened. Unfortunately due to bad weather in the UK and aircraft location issues I didn’t manage any flying at all....yet. I have really enjoyed watching your videos in the mean time, and hopefully by the end of July I can get stuck into the flying again. Best thing being no exams to worry about.

NICE...reminds me of my "1st" time but I was doing it at Teterboro. That's the equivalence of JFK for a rookie plus I was in the dreaded 152. Let's say, I was happy to have transitioned to an uncontrolled field and into a Warrior.

I'm hoping to solo this week! I've watched more videos on landings and pattern work than I can count. My problem has been how much to pull back the yoke when landing. My instructor calls it that "last inch". I like your videos-would love to have you as an instructor too (love mine also). Pray that I get that "last inch" this week 😉

I never really learned to fly by the numbers. I always just flew by feel when it came to rpms and speeds. I had to start paying attention more when I began IFR training, but when I'm just flying VFR, I don't pay much attention to those things. I have been told by pilots and CFIs that I am a really good stick and rudder pilot. I fly with other pilots and I find that, far too often, they simply fly using rote mechanics. For instance, on a normal takeoff, after I push the throttle full forward, I don't look at the airspeed indicator until I'm flying. Same when I cross the numbers on landing. I just feel it.

You should leave full flaps in after a touch-n-go, it reduces stress on the flap lever. Decent flight otherwise.
