My dad introduced me to Al Green in the 1970’s as one of his favourite artists which I paid little or no attention to, and I didn’t discover this track until the 1990’s which means I wasted 20 years not listening to this guy, what a voice, brilliant reaction, can a 53 yr old Scotsman say FIRE?

This is a Bee Gees song can you believe it? He owned that song like there's no tomorrow. I like his better then the original. Can't go wrong with Reverend Greene. ❤ Dude's a powerhouse.

A great cover of the BeeGees! I highly recommend watching the BeeGees sing it as well…nothing like the original! But Al Green is amazing too! He slows it down quite a bit for a different sound.

✨️The Reverend Al Green✨️ It doesn't matter how many times I watch this performance it gives me goosebumps every time. This is actually my favorite Bee Gees song and I generally dislike covers. However, Al's soulful rendition makes it his own. His vocal range between registers is incredible. It's as perfect as it gets. I read how much Barry loved it as well. Thanks for reacting to this Rico & Crys. Shout out to Nana! ❤️🎵

I just looked it up. Looks like the Bee Gees put it out in 1971. But Al Green wrote it and put it out after in 1972. I still only hear the Bee Gees on this one myself.

@@MuckoMan Hey friend! You may wanna check that source. Barry & Robyn definitely wrote it together. It's also the name of their documentary. "Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart". It's AMAZING by the way. If you haven't seen it for sure check it out. Barry does the commentary all the way through. I think it won several awards including an Emmy. 📽🍿 Highly recommend!

@@MuckoMan - yeah, the BeeGees definitely wrote it. Barry and Robin wrote it together after deciding to get back together as a group. They said they broke up as boys, but came together again as men ready to get to work and get along. This is the first song once they got back together.

Here's another one "Al Green - Let's Stay Together (Live 1972)" I grew up listening to Al Green, along with many, many other great artists in my household. Both my parents loved everything he did. Lord, at the LP's and 45's that those two bought.. lol 😂 And I was getting a musical education and didn't even realize it until I was much older. Then I grew to appreciate both my parents, and the music even more. Nice reaction thanks 🔥✌💖🎶

I bought a cheep Bell and Howell cassette deck in 1973, I was in 8th grade. I bought could only afford to get three tapes to play on it. They were Paul Simon, Chicago, and Al Green. Almost fifty years later I still have those tapes tucked away. Glad you listened this, hope you do an early Bee Gees version, and check out Al’s Let’s Stay Together.

Yes. He is truly amazing!!! I’m glad you chose that song. It is surely one of my favorite songs by Al Green. I love so much music. Listen to the Dells, preferably, “I Can Sing A Rainbow,” & “The Love We Had Stays On My Mind.” The one that sung lead, name is, Marvin Junior, & he could hold a note. Sung much before Al Green. He was in the 50s & 60s. Listen to, especially, “The Love I Had Stays On My Mind.” Listen to his note mid-range in the song. I’m sure you’ll love it!!!! Okay! Love ya’ll & your selections!!!

THIS IS A MASTER OF HIS CRAFT TAKING PEOPLE TO CHURCH AND TO SCHOOL! SAM COOK, AL GREEN, MARVIN GAYE, AL JEREAU, DAVID RUFFIN, EDDIE AND GERALD LEVERT! I COULD GO ON AND ON! BECAUSE IT'S WHAT WE DO!

This song is not a love song, it refers to the break up of the singing group The Bee Gees. "How Can You Mend.." was never released a single by Stax Records, later in 1978 Vogue released it as a 45 rpm. This tune was written after a breakup of the Bee Gees. “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”, originally released by The Bee Gees, was the lead single on the Bee Gees album Trafalgar. Primarily written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, this song was the groups first U.S. number one hit! The song was written after a period of distance between the brothers. The writing of the song helped bring the brothers back together. Billboard ranked the track as No. 5 song for the year of 1971. Lyrically, the song is genius. Its central question about how to mend a broken heart is answered in one word never actually uttered by Robin Gibb: Love. Barry and Robin wrote the song as they were bringing the band back together after the Bee Gees had split up. It really is a song about the brothers and for the brothers but it reflects the universality of sorrow being vanquished by joy, the joy of love. This most human of truths will remain a constant as long as people live. Al Green's one and only number one hit was in 1972, Al Green went to No. 1 on the US singles chart with "Let's Stay Together," his only US chart topper.
