Chopin (pronounced Show-pan) was a Polish-born Romantic-era (1800’s) classical composer and piano virtuoso who lived most of his life in France. He is considered one of the greatest classical composers of all time. Miyako, who composes a lot of Lovebites’ music, is a professional-level concert pianist, and was originally going to make classical music her career. When she was 18, she picked up a guitar, and is now one of the best metal guitarists in the world. She particularly likes the Romantic Era classical composers like Debussy, Dvořák, Chopin and Rachmaninoff. She composed “Swan Song” using elements of the New World Symphony (Dvořák) and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). All five members of the band are Jedi-level musicians, but I think Miyako is a once-in-a generation talent, a true savant.

This is one of my top 3 songs by Lovebites. After having listened to this song so many times all these months, I still get chills and even moist eyed from where the guitar solos start all the way to the final note of the piano.

Now you know the lyrics. The theme is death of heroes, dedication and sacrifice, honor and glory. Then it connects to Revolutionary Etude as the intro. Chopin composed the Etude in disappointment and fury for defeated Polish rebels rose against Russian rule. Revolutionary etude and Swan Song has the same theme and also the piano outro is hommage to Chopin Ocean etude. Dovolzark's New World is taken as the motif of Swan Song. Miyako the pianist/guitarist started learning piano at her 3 and started teaching herself guitar with instruction books at her 18. Hence her primary instrument is piano and guitar is the secondary. The other guitarist, blond Midori who is crazy shredder started learning guitar at her 20. They both are slow starter but very much gifted. They all can play piano (not sure about Miho the bassist). All of them can compose, write, arrange, and play flawlessly. Their songs are all composed and written and arranged by themselves. BTW, just stay away from Blood Stock recording because the recording quality is so poor, and if you do, Wolfpack will jump on you and tear you up in anger.

Ye man this band is fantastic! You are right, this is a sad song, from what i understand the piano at the end signifies the death of the Swan! Not sure what your preferences are but if you want heavier style go with "Set the World on Fire" or "Break the Wall". They've only actually done 1 song in Japanese, everything else is English(they even rerecorded that Japanese song in English). But between her singing style, her accent, and the sound of the music itself it can be hard to make out what she's saying if you aren't real familiar with how she sounds.

Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. This is not a usual first reaction song because it's a leap right into the deep end, but it's a great choice. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Excellent reaction and excellent song. Another all female band is The Warning from Mexico. Three sisters who's cover of Enter Sandman at ages 9, 12 and 14 went viral. Seven years later they opened the Metallica Blacklist anniversary album with a re-invention of Enter Sandman. They just played the Welcome to Rockville festival this past weekend which also included Metallica, Anthrax and many others. They are probably hard rock than metal but they right on the edge of metal. They have a built in fan base called The Warning Army which will increase your viewership instantly.

There a LOT of all female metal bands in Japan. And like you noticed, most tend to sing in a higher register (and most in Japanese). Without going into why, I'll just say not my cup of tea. There are a couple of all female hard rock bands on this continent worth checking out. The first is The Warning, a power trio of sisters from Mexico, the oldest is 21. They just dropped a 6 song EP and have about 40 originals in their discography and have been around for 8 years. And all three play piano. The other band is a newly formed quartet of KZfaqrs fronted by former The Voice competitor Mariah Formica called Plush. They just released their first full album and are currently touring. They're all around 20 years old, plus or minus. Lovebites are amazing. However you should also check out Nemophila (NEM-O-PHIL-A ). Try DISSENSION or RAITEI and work your way forward. They are the next big thing in Japan. They started when COVID hit and are about to release their first album in December. Lovebites power metal and Nemophila metal/hard rock are two of my favorite all girl Japanese bands right now. Japan has many more to discover as well. Its the beating heart of Metal right now.
