Stay is one of my favorites. It's hard to believe that a 12 year old could have so much maturity, not only in her tone, but in her choices of delivery. You mentioned her vibrato.... I have never heard any singer that is so "perfect" with vibrato. In my experience there are the singers that can't do vibrato, and then there are the singers that _can_ do vibrato (and then over-use it in everything they do). Angelina can lay in some of the most beautifully subtle vibrato... sometimes so subtle it almost imperceptible. Other times it is right in your face (see Summertime at NGT). Angelina has such control with every tool in her arsenal. I'm glad you did this one, and got to hear yet another facet to her voice. You still have many, many more to hear!

@@kevingood4644 Not at all.... but I did post the chronological list on his last Angelina reaction. I'm not sure if you are talking about the chronological list or the "every song" playlist. I usually only share the chronological list with reaction channels because it has been curated down to just "reaction worthy" videos. (Obviously everything she does is 'worthy', but the every song playlist does have several that are only a few seconds long and/or not the 'best' version of the song.) There are some cases where a video in the "every song" playlist was selected because it had the song title, but not necessarily the best overall version of it..... There are so many "experts" out there, that have nothing to say about, what they react to. It is so enjoyable, that you have intelligent reactions, and reactions that shows deep knowledge of music and singers. Keep it up. I will follow you from now. Angelina is amazing. I have never continued to listen to singers, for more than 2-3 weeks. Then I feel I have had enough of them, at least for a while. With Angelina it's different. I have seen her music here on youtube, for the last 6 months, and have seen a good deal of her videos, again and again and... One never gets enough of her voice. She never gets boring, and she has that ability to hit ones emotions, completely unfiltered. Even comparing her with much older world famous singers, she is right up there, with the very best. Amazing.

Ivan Mendez is an especially attentive, sensitive, accompanying guitarist, you'll see that communication between them frequently, often it's just a glance from Angelina, but he's right with her. I retired to Spain in 2011 and have been to many small-venue, intimate, live performances. Not all accomplished guitarists accompany well. I've observed some very good guitarists who can't, or don't, accompany their singer worth a damn. Angelina is fortunate to have found Ivan, and it's obvious that he appreciates the talent that she possesses. It's a great pairing.

Ivan is my favorite acoustic accompaniest for Angelina. They are always so perfectly suited to each other. Ivan provides a beautiful backdrop for Angelina without ever distracting one from Angelina's angelic vocals. When the song is over you think, "Oh my! Wasn't that guitarist just splendid." The next time you listen to the song your awareness of Ivan is subtly enhanced and you just know they should perform together whenever Angelina does something as soulful and emotional as this. Ivan is clearly as entranced by Angelina as her most ardent fans.

Yes she's 12 here, and you'll see that mike a lot as you continue your Angelina journey. She got it as a gift at 12. The guitarist is Ivan Mendez who has accompanied Angelina in the U.S. for her acoustic performances, and her other long time guitarist Egil Claussen in Norway has been with he since age 6. In any case, Angelina turns her listeners into jelly immediately. She is my great stress reliever and can bring my levels down from 10-0 in a heartbeat. I think you experienced that in the first 5 seconds. "Stay" is one of her most popular performances, and always recommended for reactions. You mentioned "smokiness," so here's a description by a fan that really describes it. "She is dark chocolate, deep and aromatic with rich cherry's and swirling velvet smokiness." Thanks for another great Angelina reaction, and I will be looking forward to more.

Yes, I could tell you were being won over after your first couple reviews, but this threw you over the edge. And it will continue as you listen to more. You will hear her do other styles beautifully, but acoustic Angelina is stunning. She doesn’t perform-she lives the lyrics and she’s singing to you. So often, Angelina just sings it better, more sincerely than the original artist. She is the best interpreter of lyrics I’ve heard. If you’re ready to hear another amazing acoustic gem, Angelina’s version of “A Million Years Ago” just buries Adele’s version, in my opinion. And it’s like this one-no studio, no mixing. Just Angelina, a mic, and a perfect guitar backing. But, I understand you appreciate the art of singing, so my recommendation for your next review is “I’m Still Holding out for You”. It’s a completely different, haunting style that you’ve not heard. It’s soulful Angelina full throttle, even though she recorded it when she was 10 years old. It’s one of the best songs I’ve heard-with a wrenching, emotional finish that no ten year old should be able to lead us through, but she just kills it. One warning: after you react as you did today, don’t say “this is my favorite Angelina song” because...well, you know why now.
@mammastenhjerte4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for another great Angelina reaction. One of the many things I love about Angelina and Aurora is that they do not belt and do vocal gymnastics in every song, even though they both can do so very comfortable if they want, instead they use it sparingly and goes for the heart of the lyrics rather then a big musical show and makes us feel the song. A little tip, on these old acoustic videos, wait to pause it and see it all the way to the end, when she sings the child disrepair, but she turns into the child again in the last few seconds. I suggest her covers of You make me feel so young, All of Me (Billie Holiday Cover), Moon River and The Show Must Go.
@johnbattles10024 жыл бұрын
She knows how to work with her musicians just as Elvis Presley did, but she is instinctively able to do it at such an insanely young age. Also, her vibrato reminds me so much of Elvis Presley's naturally-born vibrato as well. Is Norway actually another planet?

Thanks for the new beautiful and exhaustive reaction, Adam, this is one of the most exciting covers of Angelina, I sincerely believe that this version is better than the Rihanna version, they are both very beautiful, but surely that of Angelina, without mixing, recorded at home, with the simple guitar of Ivan Mendez to accompany it with much discretion (as always), it is an incredible emotional interpretation, especially considering that it is a 12 year old girl who sings it with a sweet and scratched voice, absolutely unique and without particular games vowels.😊 ❤️ 😊 Angelina has a natural ability to impart the depth of warmth to her interpretations, regardless of previous interpreters.

Genius!!! 100%. I agree with everything you said. Nothing fancy, just Angelina with her guitarist Ivan Mendez and a good mic. This is a song about Rihanna’s on and off relationship with Chris Brown. You are right on with your analysis. Angelina's genius in her singing is her ability to adjust her tone and style to match the intent and meaning of the song. She has earned the nickname among her fans of "Girl of 1000 voices", because of her ability to sound completely different depending on the song she is singing. Whenever she adds ornamentation to a song it is only when the story of the music requires it. I have never heard her add anything extraneous to a song just for the purpose of adding it. if belting is required, she will belt, but only if it furthers the intent and meaning of the song. If a run, or a sustained note, or a whisper are required, she will use those elements. The more of her music you hear, the more you will recognize this about her. With regard to the guitarist, his name is Ivan Mendez. He is an accomplished musician and singer in his own right and he is her preferred accompanist when she is in LA. His social media persona is "Ivan Lives" and you can see some of his own work here - kzfaq.info/love/bzvZo4L40llG5ui6Gt41gg. If you want to hear even more variations in Angelina's tone and vocal approach to songs, I highly recommend the following selections: "Cry me a River" - 11 years old - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLxoe6yHsZi6dHk.html - Outdoor concert with a jazz band. Very sultry and smooth jazz club vibe. "This is a Man's World" - 12 years old - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fqudatd419Cte58.html - Outdoor concert with the Norwegian Military band. James Brown R&B sound with belting and running - sustains an E6 and runs down an octave from there in full chest voice. "Shield" - 12 years old - original song - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/orekiMWHsMiUpqc.html - Live Television performance of her 3rd original. James Bond theme meets smooth Jazz song. "A Song for A" - 12 years old - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNVjoMuptbORpXU.html - Original composition by Nico Cartosio, written specifically for her to sing and be included as the only vocal selection on his instrumental album - Tremendous classical and poetic song. Unbelievable classical delivery "Above the Water" - 13 years old - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5yDnM-o07iWipc.html - Dance music video - Full on Electronic Dance Music - Angelina was specifically invited to sing this original song by the writers "What is Life" - 11 years old - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNxgpZposLSbgnU.html - First original song - Acoustical version, just her and a pianist. Awesome light jazz feel. "A million years ago" - 12 years old - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h658p72CmNmtp3k.html - Acoustic Adele cover - shows off her low tones. hits her low of C#3 in this one.

Phil, great recommendations for someone to get an idea of her versatility & the brief descriptions you include should be helpful to reactors.
@shaairah4 жыл бұрын
I so agree! She's so talented but a big part of it is her control and her way of interpreting the songs - she never falls into the trap of overly belting or overly vibrato even though she can belt too. Some artists seem to feel that they have to overdo it like "look, I can do this, lok, it's loud!" Loud has it's place but Angelina knopws exactly when to use her voice in a certain way - and she infuses everything with so much soul and it makes her utterly hypnotic.

When I saw the title of this one, I thought back to your first Angelina reaction and your commentary on that one, and all could thing was, 'Man, he's gonna love this', and boy, was I right! And why not? This is one of the best, most emotional songs she does, though it's up in the air between this one and many others, such as 'A Million Years Ago', 'California Dreaming', or 'All Of Me', just to name a few. It was also nice to see you comment on Ivan Mendez's work on the guitar, as well as the chemistry between him and Angelina. I agree with everything you said, especially in regards to the look on his face when Angelina sings, and how he seems to become completely lost in how remarkable she is.Watching his reactions in these sweet little home sessions is one of the real joys of the whole experience for me. He looks the way I feel. There really isn't much I've envied in others over the course of (to me) a surprisingly long and varied life, but his musical association with Angelina is one of those few things. Ah, well....cie la vie. Another fine reaction. You're definitely down the rabbit hole now. Have a good time.

Of all the pieces Angelina has done, I really like these performances where it is just her and one of her guitarists. Ivan Mendez (in this one) and Egil Clausen have been working with Angelina for years, literally watching her grow up as a young woman and as a performer. There is an intimacy in these performance that comes from that deep friendship, understanding, and trust between the artists and which extends to include the listener. They are also done in one take, no edits, so very much as though you're being treated to a private concert performance. No matter how many times I hear her sing, she totally captures my attention the minute she opens her mouth and I'm mesmerized the whole time she is singing.

Very astute and well stated. You have quickly wended your way to her essence that the legion of fans respond to. I Put a Spell on You and AGT Bohemian Rhapsody are the common gateway drugs. At 9 she is untethered displaying what a singular prodigal talent she is. At 13 she cleverly constructs a sublime AGT performance chock full of runs and the obligatory high note tailored to woo in mere minutes the home audience and judges with transcendental result. Now that you have a glimpse of what she can do select your next reactions based on what strikes your mood. Anything with a guitarist with her in the thumbnail is wonderful. The heartfelt Always on My Mind, stripped bare Wicked Game, EDM track TRXD Above the Water or Whitney’s I Have Nothing just because at 12 she felt like belting out one of the most difficult of songs are just a snapshot of her range.

You're reactions are very deep. I appreciate the clarity you provide. It's very hard to come up with different adjectives to describe her. Ivan is my favorite musician who accompanies her. Watch her sing with Alan Walker. Thank you!

Another brilliant reaction, thanks so much for sharing! I hope you got the patience to do loads more from her. Its clear you got a good ear for music, and I would love for you to hear and experience all of her genius. Not all her performances is as stunning as this one, but you will find something special in almost all of them. Her emotions, her runs, her notes, her interpretation, her control, her storytelling, etc. There is always something special that will captivate and impress. Thanks again and see you in the next one :)

Angelina's natural voice + Ivan mendez guitar = Overwhelming // just 2 or 3 seconds into the song is more than enough to capture any viewer's attention and stay to the end, making you hold off on anything you're doing at that moment = Angelina effect.

I truly believe it’s time for you to react to “A Song for A”. This will give you her pure voice without any inflections or influences. It will show how incredible and complete she is as an artist. Again I wish to compliment you on your understanding of her voice and abilities your acumen is outstanding and needed. There are many more Angelina’s within her as you will find.

I might add that Angelina started taking control of the arrangements at age seven, by nine it is my understanding that the musicians affectionately call her The Boss

I heard this for the first time, last week. I know it is a poem from the 1700's, put to music and Angelina sang the feelings so well but it didn't envelope me like everything else Angelina does. It may have been because it was something totally different or because it was so new even though the words are so old.

I'm not sure I would characterize her voice in "Song for A" as being "without any inflections or influences". I think they're there, they're just atyipcal for her, that's all.

Could I please ask for 'California Dreamin ' ? - very underrated cover from Angelina, my favourite. And yes, she is a genius, and probably not just musically....

Happy to see you are following the Angelina track! 🥰 I have so many favs by her. It’s so difficult to choose just one or two videos of hers. I will just “sit steady in the boat” ( Norwegian saying) and watch you go down the rabbit hole. It will be entertaining and amusing! 😏❤️

Hi there! Thanks for your great react to Angelina Jordan, with so valuable comments about A.J.'s evolution. I admire her constant work in what is her dream since she was 1.5 y.o. You are about to start an amazing musical journey which is kind of privilege following a star from her early beginnings till now, and counting 😊. However the most important in Angelina, further than her amazing musical skills, is her enormous quality as human being. We could say that God was not wrong when blessed Angelina with her skills as musician , so He gifted her with the best a human can be. You will love her. See you in next reacts. Stay safe and healthy. Peace & Hugs from Barcelona - Spain.

Next. Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm dying to hear your comments on that one. 👍

John Salmon It is indeed a masterpiece! But it is nice to understand where that mastery comes from. She started out copying her idols, which happened to be greatest jazz vocalists, and acquired a toolkit and a musical understanding way beyond most singers. Then she started to change songs in her own style, often improving on the originals. «Bohemian Rhapsody» shows us a little of what the future may hold... But I also find the road that brought her there fascinating.

Great reaction and analysis. Dang, now I want to hear Angelina cover Dusty Springfield, perhaps one day! Angelina has released three originals, Shield, What is Life, and Oslo. All are excellent and amazing works for such a young artist. Currently Angelina is in Los Angeles 'in quarantine' and writing more original songs . . . I can't wait to hear what she comes up with.

"I mean Wow!"..yep! The variations will continue. You will find new favorites and then realize your past faves haven't diminished. Favorite becomes an inadequate word when you like so many. She does this song with so much more emotion than Rihanna. You truly feel this. It goes right through you. She does better than Adele on A Million Years Ago, better than Lana del Rey on Born to Die... Her originals are exceptional as well. Haha. As I was writing this more and more songs came to mind. Rusty's list is useful. There are some suggestions below. Any works for me. Glad you're on this journey. I like what you have to say. Enjoy!
