With Babymetal the language, for me, has become like another instrument in their songs. Their dancing also tells the story of the song. Check out 'Rondo of Nightmare' if you want to see the Kami Band's talent and 'Catch me if You Can' because it's my favorite.

It's what BABYMETAL does they merge metal with all types of music. All they concerts have this energy, and you are right about the language they sing 95% of there songs in Japanese and tour worldwide.

Normally I don't "like" reaction videos, but your statement about appreciating the linguistic affects of the native language rather than trying to clumsily translate the lyrics is spot on.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. You are absolutely right, enjoy the music for what it is, you don't need to understand the language to appreciate a good song, you can tell this one is a party song, you will feel the emotions of their other songs - Su-metal, the lead singer, is particularly good at getting that across even if you can't understand a word she says. Having said that, if you are curious this is a summer party song about a spicy green papaya fruit salad (which is of course one of the most common themes for metal and has been explored by most of the top bands lol). F. Hero is a rapper from Thailand rapping (in Thai) to the same rhythm as mixing the ingredients for the salad with a mortar and pestle. The idea of the salad is also a metaphor for life - adding the right spices will make that better too. BABYMETAL have about 50 songs now - and every one of them is different. They have songs in virtually every metal genre and will mix in or fuse countless other musical styles or genres whenever they feel like it pretty much - they follow nobody else's rules. This is just one of the things that makes them unique, innovative and never boring. Some songs are very heavy, others lean more towards their pop roots and you will find everything in between - eventually. BABYMETAL are Su-metal (now 23) and Moametal (now 21) - the third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues and had not fully recovered so was still unable to perform, so she announced she would be leaving the band and hoped to follow her own long held dreams. Since the start of the 2019 tour Su and Moa have been supported by three dancers (the Avengers) who take turns to dance in the third spot (they do not have any vocals so far). They are Kano, Riho and Momoko but it is looking like Momoko is the only one left as she has been the Avenger for the last 20+ performances. I think Kano was the third girl in this video. Their backing band, the Kami Band, were phased in gradually from October 2012 playing festivals and encores in some shows. They became the full time backing band early in 2014. If the musicians in a video are wearing skeleton suits they were miming the instruments to a backing track - they were called 'Babybones' and were there for show (no pretence was made otherwise, everybody knew what they were doing). The Kami Band are the ones in traditional white burial robes and white corpse face paint (more recently in black robes and now wearing masks ... nobody likes the masks). The Kami Band are among Japan's very best session musicians and can play anything. For the 2019 and 2020 US and European tours the Kami Band of the west (American musicians from Galactic Empire on guitars and bass, Anthony Barone on drums) were introduced. I'm sure you will get a lot of suggestions for more BABYMETAL songs to react to. I would suggest 'Megitsune'. The official video for that is great but is being blocked lately (placing a transparent logo or something over the video may help avoid that), so live at the Budokan, Black Night would be a good alternative for that. 'Catch Me If You Can' also live at Budokan Black Night (avoid the compilation that has most views) is the perfect blend (or perfect clash) of brutal metal with the kawaii (cute) vocals and choreo.

In the latest world tours from June 2019 through March 2020 (prior to the pandemic), they performed live 20 times in USA, 19 in EU/UK/Russia and 1 in Taiwan in addition to 15 in Japan. This MV is using live footage with studio sound. F. Hero, a Thai rapper, came to Japan with big anxieties to perform at the huge arena in foreign country. In the actual show in Yokohama, Su-Metal shouted "Come on F. Hero!" to summon him. And at the end of the song she screamed "Thank you F. Hero!" then the three girls bowed deeply towards him to show their respect in the world premiere of the song. That scene makes me happy.😄

The girl with the longer pig tails Moametal real name Moa kiKuchi and the Main singer Su-Metal real name Suzuka Nakamoto have always been in BABYMETAL the 3rd girl was a stand in for Yuimetal real name Yui Mizuno who unfortunately quit due to her doctor saying she could not perform due to health issues you will see a lot of her in many of their videos. My comment is now two years since you had the reaction so don't even know if you'll see it. That said what you had to say about the language and listening to it the way it was meant to be listened too. The emotional energy etc. was some of the most insightful, thoughtul comments I've ever heard about Babymetal and the language thing. Much less for a first timer. Just loved it man, loved it.

I agree 100% about the songs being meant in their original language and not to be translated. I think a general idea of what the song is about is great but they are never the same in a full translation. It doesn't have the same meaning and it's not as good. As far as the video the flames and the people were real. The sparks were added in post production. It's a music video. The audio is the album track. But they sound fantastic live. An actual live video is even better. They call the musicians who perform at their concerts 'The Kami Band' and they are fantastic. They are session musicians but they are really good. Babymetal is technically only the girls. They hire musicians to play their concerts but they hire the best. Babymetal haters like to say that it's some terrible thing that the band isn't part of the group. But it's a pretty good deal. All they have to do is show up at the concerts and play music. Everything else is done by Babymetal. They volunteered.
