This song is known as the homework song. Kanami asked her bandmates to come up with a portion of a song and send it to her, then she crafted it into this masterpiece! Misa wasn't sure she could replicate the bass part, as she has stated in interviews, cause she was a bit tipsy when she made it originally, but it came out fine! This video really focused on the instruments rather than the band members faces, as they really wanted the instrumental parts to stand out. Saiki, as her voice is her instrument was shown as well as Miku a bit. Great song!

That 30s or so during the solo section; and it’s not just Kanami’s high-energy solo but the combination with all the other instruments - Akane’s cool drum pattern, Misa’s heavy and aggressive bass and the foundation of Miku’s rhythm guitar- that to me, are some of the best of rock music ever captured on a recording. It reminds me of the epic-ness of Rush’s Freewill solo section; one of my personal favorites. An absolute treat for these ears. Then how it falls into the beautiful quiet section with Saiki and Miku’s gorgeous vocals on display…pure delight across the board. I’m not aware of another band making incredible song after incredible song the way Band-Maid is these last several years. My oldest memory is seeing The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show (literally) then the music of the 60’s through to the music of Band-Maid. What a time to be alive!!!! 🔥✌🏼🥁🎸🎼😎🍺

Another great reaction! Thanks! Yes, Kanami does the tapping. Miku uses a Zemaitis (24 Metal Front) guitar, and Kanami has her green PRS (Custom 24) here. Almost always leads are Saiki, Miku does have some solo songs, but Saiki does almost all leads.

On the studio version is kind of hard to distinguish the two vocalists. I think Miku's vocal sounds more nasal while Saiki's vocal is usually more deeper and had more bone to it, when Saiki sings in softer, sweeter way, sounds a bit similar to Miku.

When did 'pop' become a kind of insult? When the pop genre started churning out crap like an assembly line. 😏 I think most of us understand the reference to popular and know what you mean. Only we don't necessarily always say something then either. A kind of silent consent. :) And yes, Blooming is very high on the favourites list for most, quite rightly, because of so many elements. Akane is also the not-so-secret star of this song for me. The sound of her drum kit and the beat she sets from the first to the last second are still better than any energy drink out there for me. 🔥🤘🏻 _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Great Reaction You have to check out the Instrumental Onset. I think Kanami as she writes the Song , and is a very very kind Person does not want to put herself too much in the Center. Onset is an Example where all the Members get their Moment to shine , and its about the whole Band , not some Individual. Japanese Mentality might have an Impact here.

Miku in the first few videos plays a black and white Rickenbacker, but she soon switched to Zemaitis. After that, she always plays a single cut, generally with a metal front (though occasionally with a tiled one). Kanami played a red Addictone for the first several videos. Since then she plays a PRS, with the birds on the fret board. You've probably figured this out by now, but just in case. Good luck with your channel!

The same thing happens in the art world. Andy Warhol was looked down on by some elitists in the New York art world because he designed window displays and magazine ads when he first moved to New York City. He and some of the other '60s artists sort of embraced the "pop as art" concept and lamponed the whole concept. Maybe The Beatles were doing the same thing at the same time. The same band that wrote "Michelle" also wrote "Tomorrow Never Knows".

I believe her longest solo is in the song “Unfair Game”, but there is no video of that song that I’m aware of. She does have a longish one in YOLO. Then there is Puzzle and Giovanni where she’s basically soloing behind the vocals during the verses. And ofc, the instrumentals - Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and now the new one “From Now On” (I think), that will be on the Unleash EP that they’ve been playing live. Also, there’s the pre-Okyu-ji opening music she composes for each tour that has some killer soloing, though we never get to see her play those (sadly) 🤷🏻‍♂️😀. If you can watch the Intro to one of there live shows and you’ll hear some of these original instrumental music pieces. 🔥

Yeah, I agree. I love her guitar works, so I feel the same, her solo is always too short! However, after I found out Kanami's background, based on the classical music, and her personality, shy and dedicating, I am now just taking it as it is. "Poppy" is a compliment for Band-Maid for sure! The HR bands I love, such as KISS, QUEEN, Led Zeppelin, they all sound poppy to me. Try "Giovanni" instrument. It's like having guitar solo for entire song.

Kanami just LOVES using harmonics. 99% of the time Miku's guitar is one of her duralumin fronted guitars. Kanami is always on a PRS. And Kanami does most of the tapping, although MISA will tap from time to time. And stop as often as you need. If I want to hear the song, I can go watch the Ladies video. I want to hear your thoughts on the song. And that is Akane's Star Bubinga drum kit, it's the only stuff that can stand up to her playing. Listening to you talk about the solo, I'm going to myself "Just wait..." In the bridge you are hearing mostly Saiki and Miku's voices being layered, however Kanami and Akane's voices are also used in the "Far Away" section of the chorus. I don't know if MISA sang in that section or not but I know Kanami and Akane did with Miku and Saiki. And as other have said the front is the opposite of the end. And your preferences are your preferences. No one can dictate what you do and don't like except you, yourself. For a "FULL" Kanami lead with a FULL Solo, pull up "Unfair Game" on your spotify, turn on the camera and record your listening to it. For that one, I'd recommend just listen to it all the way through with no stops to fully absorb the song, then go back to the beginning and break it down. As for the Pop hate, I personally listen to almost everything except certain types of gangster rap and scream core. And glad to have you as a burgeoning Maidiac. It is through people like yourselves the Maid's Army grows.

I don't know who gets offended by the term pop, but in all fairness you do use it as a negative description for parts of the songs that you don't care for. Anything that sounds poppy are the parts you "overlook" and don't hold against them. Of course I am not just singling out your Band Maid reactions. I like when you said you're learning how to "listen to Band-Maid"....that's exactly right, you are over the target. Before founding BAND-MAID, KOBATO was a J-Pop singer. SAIKI was not a rock singer. It’s the pop elements that provide the hooks and make the songs so re-listenable. If you stop talking, I stop watching. I'm pretty sick of "reactions' where the person just stares at the screen, emotionless until the end, and then tells me to like and subscribe for more. Uh...no, thanks. Worse yet is the person who stops the song every 15 seconds to avoid copyright, but doesn't really say anything besides, "Awesome", So great", "Like and subscribe". No. Chance. You have the insight I'm looking for in a reactor coming from a working knowledge of actually playing music. So, you keep doing what you do; giving your honest, informed opinion. I'd say "pop" becomes a dirty word when applied singularly. Example, "BAND-MAID is a pop band". Additionally, today's pop music is mostly soulless, corporate, and indistinguishable from itself. But I get what your saying when you say "poppy". Hanabie are a super heavy band, but love a good pop melody. Just don't lean too heavily on that one word when describing whichever band 😉

Why would you have to love every single B-M song? It's perfectly fine by me. I love about 30% of their catalogue, like 40% of their catalogue but there's 30% I'm not sure of. 70% is still an unprecidented record for me though. I personally think their unique pop-fusion sound is big part of what separate them from other bands. They don't just play pop-rock or pop-punk, they incorporate not just metal, but jazz, blues, hip-hop, latin, prog, touch of folk, with fast reggae beat here and there. I'm not saying like they play those particular genres but they infuse those elements in their songs in a very subtle, sneaky, classic Band-Maid fashion, which is different from most other bands who do the same in a more obvious way. And Saiki's live vocal is deeper and powerful with more grit compare to many Japanese female pop vocalists.

Pop isn't a bad word... at least if it is done great. I love ABBA... but mostly because their compositions were intriguing and meaningful lyrics.

in this song i wouldn't say that the kanami 'solo' really wasn't a solo... listening to the bass and drums also going completely ham at the same time makes me think it was just the power trio doing what they do lol. i just love it when MISA kanami and akame kind of just let loose and play off each other so fricken well!!

their masterpiece! so many disparate musical elements fused into a sonic singularity for a reverse big bang. how could the western rock press e.g. pitchfork pass up on this one, their best work yet.

Great reaction. If you want faster & thrashier, try "Rinne" &" Warning" (Official Music Videos). Also "Black Hole" & "Different" (Official Live Videos) which are both part of 2fer videos: (Manners / Black Hole) and (Dice / Different). "No God" (Official Live Video) is good too.

If Band-Maid ever decides to break the 3-4 min song length and starts doing 6-8 min songs, I think we'd be in for some special shit.

I don't speak for anybody else but sometimes folks resist labeling Band-Maid as metal or pop because those words have some baggage and might give a false impression. I don't care about labels and tend to like musicians who also don't care. Like Estaban "Steve" Jordan, the "Jimi Hendrix" of Tejano music. Yes, he plays polka music on accordion, but he's an artist. He transcends time and place. I think the opening and closing bars are *almost* the same (but I've never sat down and actually worked it out, the key word here is "think"). The bass line and chords seem to be the same but the chord voicing in the guitar has a rising line in the intro and a descending line in the outro. To me, this gives the impression of a curtain rising at the beginning, and coming down at the end. As you said, different places in the song so they function differently. The band seems to have an aversion to anything longer than 4'. Maybe we're living in an ADHD age, but songs like "Fate" (which was written by Kentarō Akutsu) have a nice bass and drum groove at the break - and it could be 4x longer in a live performance, and Kanami's lead following it could be 4x longer too. It seems to me it would magnify the impact when they return to the main theme. But they've never invited me to a band meeting, so ...

They released a new music video yesterday, if you want to check it out! More of a talking point at the end; a lot of Japanese bands incorporate Jpop into their music, even if they're usually metal. I don't really get the distain for that when talked about, I think it makes their music stand out more if anything

If you're looking for a long solo try "REAL EXISTANCE" and "DAYDREAMING" - Live videos tend to have longer solos by everyone in the band.

I'm a drummer.. I can do covers of Bandmaid, Nemophila, Love Bites, etc.. Akane(drummer) is my favorite drummer. But TAMU (Nemophila) drummer is also pretty bad ass.. Haruna(love bites) is so cute and a badass.. everyone is pretty bias on what instrument. if you're a drummer, you're only gonna focus on the drums.. guitars etc.. anyways bro. New subscriber.

Yes..we'd all love more Kanami...but we also would love more of ALL the ladies!...But she writes for the song..and so we get short solo's so the other members get a wee solo...Like you'll hear MISA get a little solo before Kanami's..or even Akane....So to allow for this the solo's are short to fit more of each lady into each song...So no ego's...Every member counts in this band, it's what makes BAND-MAID, BAND-MAID (amongst other things...hehe!)...its "1 4 5 and 5 4 1".....Like in some bands...you'll get a crazy solo which totally lose's the plot...and you don't get to hear any of the other members....that's an ego thing because that's all you'll remember about the track is the solo.

I’d be more disappointed in the length of Kanami’s solo’s as well if she didn’t do so much fantastic playing through the entire song. A lot of guitarists in bands are only impressive during solos. Not so, Kanami. She’s up there with some of the best rock band guitarists, IMO. (I keep saying “band guitarist” because I’m not counting music that is predicated around a guitar hero type, and everything else is secondary. Of course Kanami isn’t going to go nuts and take over songs like Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Frank Marino, etc.)

Jimmy Page watched the girls in concert. After the show he requested a picture with Akane. He said that she is one of the greatest drumers he had ever heard. He also said that she was like a "reincarnation of John Bonham". Pretty high praise from a rock legend.

Hi Mr Reactor. Glad you’ve reacted to this song. As you claim to be a good listener to music, I’m wondering if you can hear the ‘horn’ sound in this song. Seems like a car horn but could be something else. It’s at 1:46 - 1:47. I first noticed it while listening to this song while driving with my window open. I heard a horn and was looking around and wondering who beeped me. There was no one near me. Confused, I then realised it was the song. I played it again and there it was. Let me know if you can hear it because everyone I ask can’t hear it. Once heard you always notice it. Same with their Reincarnation song that has the sound of ‘Summon Siri’ in it.
