You definitely need to check out more of our Maids. I discovered these amazing ladies a few years ago and I didn't think I'd be a fan since they didn't sing in English and were wearing maid outfits. Well, about 4-5 songs in I didn't care what they were wearing or what language they spoke. Their talent and personalities made me fall in love with them.

Welcome Masters and Princesses to the best rock band on the planet. These beautiful ladies are in their early 30s now and have been rocking for 10 years with plenty of Solo work from Misa (bass) and Kanami (lead). Drum fills and solos from Akane are killer. The great thing is they always look so happy. Thrill the track that blew them up on the world stage, after a slow start it suddenly went viral outside of Japan after being shown on Facebook (the label was about drop them when this happened in 2015), Domination, Dice, Freedom, Onset, From now on, Without Holding Back, Hate? Are all great tracks and they have an extensive back catalogue (130+ tracks). The 5 Band-Maid members: SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. The youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon. I believe she couldn’t play very well when she formed the band and was tutored by Kanami. KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want is more! AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Their Battle Gear as they call it with slight variations are standard French maid outfits for Akane, Miku and Kanami, MISA ditched the French maid outfit early on she started to wear a Chinese inspired maid outfit - in black of course. It's partly how MISA got her nickname 'The Barefoot Assassin'. Well, she always plays barefoot, and Miku joked her outfit was an “assassin maid”. Saiki's outfit is Spanish inspired. Any Maids track always ROCKS as they come for your soul.

The lyrics to this particular song were written by the lead singer (usually it's the rhythm guitarist/background vocalist/band founder). They are ostensibly about a friend who's husband or boyfriend cheated on her during covid, but that's second or third hand info. Their lyrics are usually quite positive. One thing that's the same always - they are always awesome!!

If you want to hear how good the drummer is (not only blast beat, but super tasteful dialed back drumming) watch the live version of their "Don't You Tell Me - Live" ... there's another guitar/bass call/response 'bridge' and the drumming she does on that ''duo" turns it into a true 'trio' ... a 'string quartet' couldn't do a better job at building an arrangement to show off their instruments !

Band-Maid is headphone music. Each musician brings incredible texture to their songs. Their compositions and arrangements are devious and charming at the same time. Both the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist are the band's lyricists and they each have their own unique styles, sometimes on their own and sometimes collaborating.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Welcome to the Pigeon hole that is Band-Maid! Pigeon Hole is in reference to band founder, rhythm guitarist, main lyricist and backing vocalist, Miku Kobato, who says she's a 810 year old pigeon. Miku was taught how to play by the guitarist, Kanami Tono, doing the conversation with the bass player, MISA, as she didn't play the guitar when she started the band and was to be the lead singer.

This is my favorite band in decades along with The Warning (check them out too). Huge catalog of bangers! Love everything about them.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). Between Band-Maid and LoveBites you have all you need from 2 of the most underrated yet phenominal bands around right now. Lovebites are also Japanese but more on the metal side taking influences from the great matal bands of the 80's and 90's and combining them to form their own unique sound. They like Band-maid are exceptional musicians and have 2 amazing lead guitarist's. Im sure others in the comments will also suggest LoveBites.

I think it is a nice place to make a remark: towards the end of conversation (as mentioned in a post I liked) enters the guitar solo. Every time I listen to it, and it near 30 different reactors, I feel that there is a half tempo or another thing that I cannot explain about the drums and the rest of the band, as if there was a small delay to the proper moment of a solo to start. All this doesn't tale any brightness of the performance, but I decided to ask.

So often I hear a new band and think "what a cool song," only to go into their catalog and realize everything else is lame. Not so with these ladies. 👍

Because, I've seen 40 reactors doing this video and each have had several thousand views racked up on their channels... Just wondering if that's the reason the original video posted on the bands channel have so few views? Not sure how that works.

There's a bass solo on their very first video! •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis (after playing less than 10 yrs) •There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed.
