A great song. I am going to suggest a couple of story teller songs: "the year that clayton delaney died" by tom t hall and concrete angel by Martina Mcbride. Warning have tissues handy for the Mcbride song.

The last time Gentry appeared in public was when she attended the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 30, 1982. Since that time, she has not recorded, performed or been interviewed. One 2016 news report stated that Gentry lived in a gated community near Memphis, Tennessee.

She has such a beautiful voice. I really enjoy odes and ballads because of the the underlying stories(often fatal love stories and how people are affected). Your facial expressions are always so in tune with the music.

There is a movie based on this song with the same title as this song.

This song was written to get people to think about how casual they are talking about someone ki**ing themselves, and how unaffected these people are about the news a younger person died! Slso it wasn't ever stated what exactly it was that was thrown off the bridge into the water. Most people thought that she had miscarriage and that was what was thrown off the bridge! But no one knows for sure, and she never stated what they were throwing into the river!!! The girl didn't push Billie Joe off the bridge, the only thing that she threw off the bridge was flowers, and that was in mourning for Billie Joe!!!! This is one of my favorites and love how she sings and tells her story!! Another good one that is a story type song is Delta Dawn, you might enjoy it too!!

Great job, Angel. An amazing and classic rock song.....there was actually a movie made in 1976 based on the song. Billy Joe McAllister was portrayed by Robbie Benson. The movie goes into much more detail than the song......of course. And shows that what we ASSUME is the truth is not always as clear as it may seem.
