"Ocean with all light silenced" is the deep ocean where natural light is absent. This is in reference to a hidden BTS track called 'Sea' with similar themes. They reached the top from the bottom. They turned the desert into a sea with their blood, sweat and tears. But this success brings new trials and shadows for them and they feel like they're on the ocean floor which is cold and without light ("Struggle but it's all ocean floor"). You were on the right track. I actually appreciate the way you do your reactions and how you give your time and attention to it. You're good at this. You were spot on for the most part of it. The song really is about almost losing your passion and finding it again.

In Kpop groups have what's called light sticks specific for their group that the fans use represent their presence and support - Army is called an Army Bomb. BTS refers to us as purple ocean (our lights) and in kpop there something called a black ocean where all the lights are off (not saying they're talking about blk ocean). They've talked about hating the day when they look out one day and the light will die down/out.

How can you easily get the meaning though? That is dope. Some reactors would not pay attention to the lyrics or have a hard time since they are Korean but you got it.

I love the Ocean references, and waves taking them over, and being pulled down. Sinking slowly in a trance, but It's all Ocean floor. Very descriptive. It's like they are struggling against an ocean of water, like being taken over. And J-Hope and SUGA talk about fighting against it so it won't take them. Sometimes you have to fight through and struggle to get the passion back. But the real fear of losing their passion for their art by experiencing burn out or having an injury or circumstance that will make it so you can't do your art anymore. Like a dancer having physical injuries that prevent them from dancing anymore. Those things are what they are talking about. And I do love that you understood what they were saying. So many people don't get it. This song it what clinched it for me. I became ARMY after hearing this one. ARMY's love these kinds of reactions. And I think you got most of them. 2:45 - Yeah! You're learning, bro. And you were quick to pick up the meaning without being familiar with the Martha Graham quote. Also this track falls in the Shadow section of Map Of The Soul 7 and reflects the fears that they were experiencing at this time. It's an honest confrontation with the self and acceptance, moving forward as a more integrated whole. The contrast goes from them all in white with some black accents to moving into fully accepting their Shadow content and leaving empowered.

When you feel lost in a dark ocean all you can feel and see hear is blackness there's no light to show you the way out, there's no hope you are adrift in a huge black ocean.. I can also see it as when they are at a concert what if they loose their passion and it show's on stage and the fans turn off their ARMY BOMB light sticks and all the see it an 'Black Ocean' that it something all kpop groups dread being up on stage and not a single person turns on their light stick so the auidence it just a black dark space. The would be soul distorying for a Kpop group.

The pressure of composing music is immense and could crush you, if you lost your passion and love for it. "Ocean with all light silenced..."... picture a BTS concert...a packed stadium is often referred to as a sea of light or ocean of light since the fans (Army) carry light sticks called "Army bombs"... so imagine BTS on stage with no audience/ no light from army bombs... its a silent ocean.

And ON is their determination to overcome that fear and move on to the future. :) BTS member Jin said in his acceptance speech at the 2018 MAMA that BTS suddenly became famous worldwide and had a hard time for a year due to great pressure and fear. They even thought about disbanding. However, after a year of talking and contemplating with the members, they decided to stay in the industry only for the fans and members, and move forward. The albums that have been released since then are Map of the Soul series. The albums are filled with songs that reconsider their inner self, the relationship between the seven members, and the relationship between them and fans. Black Swan, ON, Boy with Luv, and We are Bulletproof : the Eternal are one of those songs. Boy with Luv contains a message that they will fly toward fans, not the sun, with wings attached by ARMY. After listening to Black Swan, you can better understand how they feel by reading ON's lyrics. :) And at the concert in Busan in 2022, BTS member SUGA told ARMY to grow old together because they will make music for another 20 or 30 years.😭 The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative. I thought the ‘ocean with all light silenced shut’ was like the fans in the audience with their glow sticks to support BTS. But if they lost their passion for music the light (fans screams of support) would go away and it would be silent.

I've read several comments and their references to the ocean really encompasses everything everyone said, bec the reference is multi layered. BTS lyrics are often poetic and metaphorical, hence the references to the lack of light and the ocean floor to imply a lack of passion and fighting internal struggles. They often reference their own extensive discography by repeating themes because this reinforces their messages and provides Easter eggs for long time fans. They also typically write from their own experiences, which is why they are so relatable. They are talking about the time when the pressures of their career nearly caused them to disband.

I think the devour part is different. Have you ever been so into a project that it devoured you? Your passion was wrapped up in it? They’re saying nothing can devour them now. Nothing is pulling them in and devouring them like it used to when they were passionate about something. I don’t think this song resolves as well as you hope. But you have the idea of it, which shows you have emotional intelligence. Very good breakdown.

They almost disbanded in 2018. I think they were feeling like they had worked so hard from 2010 to 2018 and were so very tired. They only got 1 day per month off then. I am so glad they renewed their contract. They grew from that point and became even closrer and found their passion to continue. I cannot wait until 2025 when they all reunite after their required military service!!! Please pray they all stay safe! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

The ocean they refer to is the purple ocean of ARMY bombs that light up the stadium when they perform.

The lyrics are some what incorrect where you are getting caught up. In Doolset's Wordpress BTS about Black Swan they ramble (they have a ramblings page on this song) The correct lyrics are actually "The Sea where all the lights are dead silent" the next line "Again, chains my ankles that have lost their way" this section is possible speaking of baggage that you carry with you making it difficult to reach your full potential. You have to remember this song was written many years into their career. They had written about their struggles, their pain, their journey of breaking the ceiling of going to the US with music that was great but a different language. Now they felt they had done all they could. They had problems that they didn't want to speak about in their music maybe but they were also stretched thin. Working doing concerts, appearances, award shows, and in between writing songs and producing them in hotels while people were actively trying to find them. They were overwhelmed feeling like they had their ankles tied to the bottom of the ocean where they couldn't even hear sound much less the music they loved so much.

They are song writers and it is common for writers to get writer's block. I think they had worked so hard, used up all the inspiration they had and wondered if it would come back.

Ocean with no light - is like going under. They refer to that dark sinking feeling, suffocated by darkness.

5:42 - Dude, you are too good at this. It's success without happiness. It goes back and references a track of theirs called Sea, where the ocean is success and the desert is failure. But in this Shadow content suddenly it's flipped on its head. It's having the success without the expected happiness and suddenly you're lost and adrift alone. Imagine struggling through the trials of the desert and seeing an oasis ahead, your imagined salvation. But when you get there, it's an all encompassing sea with water that you can't drink that drowns instead of sustaining you. Now not even success is a balm for your struggles, it's just more weight.

Very thorough and largely accurate reaction. The only debatable moment in my estimation was when the shadow receded at the end and you said "I guess that was the black swan". A black swan is a moment which comes suddenly and unexpectedly typically with negative consequences. In a way you could say it was the end of the black swan, but I think it is deeper. This song is applied psychological theory based on the writings of Karl Jung. Jung speaks of elements from a subconscious repository of emotions and repressed thoughts he calls the Shadow tending to emerge into consciousness when one's personas become successful. This causes dissonance and confusion. One must recognize and integrate these now conscious Shadow elements into one's ego to have a well-functioning Psyche. Through a process he calls individuation the person can move forward. To me the shadow receding Jungkook is distantly viewing on the stage of the theater of the Psyche shows the tucking away of the Shadow's power it had to disrupt normalcy. Individuation has occurred. Earlier the Shadow had waved wildly behind Suga and over RM. So, the end of an event, yes. But also it can be said that Jungian individuation has occurred. If you have a moment there is a dance version of this track that was put out by Big Hit using a Slovenian dance troupe which shows these concepts more clearly.

Came here right after watching the first Agust D reaction because I liked it. This is my all time favorite song from BTS, I even think this is their best one, and you got the message quite right! This song refers to the fear of the narrator of losing the love and passion they feel for what they do, in this case, music. It's a dark and terrifying thing to think about, actually. If you can’t feel anything for it anymore, it’ll be like dying despite being alive. They showing this vulnerable side of them it's something so raw and sincere to do for them as artists. I think this song hits hard for everyone who loves music in general, and not just those who make it for a living. This was such a good reaction and analysis to watch and listen! Music is free to interprete so I like to listen to other peoples thoughts. Thank you for sincerely appreciate BTS music.

Ocean with all lights silenced... Maybe audience with the army bombs being not on. Because when they perform the audience has these light sticks and it really looks like ocean around them. I was just thinking together with you and this came to the mind.
