Yoko Kanno, the genius who composed the music for the anime, was given the script by the director of the show, without any direction at to what music should go to to what scene, he just gave her the script and told her to compose what she wanted for each scene. Then they took the song she wrote and put them where they thought would fit best. Yoko Kanno wrote TANK! for a fight scene and it ended up being the opening and the song she wrote to be the opening ended up in a scene of the show. It was the meeting of two genius

Hey there! Here's the thing: this anime revolves around a team of bounty hunters in space! It's considered part of The Essential Collection: animes that shaped and redefined the genre as a whole and something a majority of anime fans have at least a passing familiarity with. Think of anime like movies; there are different genres of anime just like films. Cowboy Bebop is like noir mixed with gun-fu, drama and comedy. The soundtrack is jazz, hip-hop, and even a splash of choral vocals. P.S.-Bebop is a genre of American music that is the root of genres like Rock and Rhythm&Blues

It's probably heavily requested because Cowboy Bebop is what many would consider to be a certified classic. As an older anime fan that got into anime in the 90s, its definitely on top of my list with things like Akira and Ghost in the Shell as "must watch". I think Tank is one of those opening themes where it makes much more sense when you see the actual opening animation and how well it fits. I think another good example of that maybe is Battlecry for Samurai Champloo. They're cool songs in and of themselves, but the way they fit with the animation and the themes of the show really gets you hyped up to watch. Also, Cowboy Bebop is one of those rare shows from back then that mostly everyone agrees that the English dub is actually as good (or better, depending who you ask) as the original Japanese, which is quite an accomplishment lol

It's a 26 episode ling series, and like how many have claimed about Avatar the last air bender, there really isn't a bad or terrible episode of it. Just some you might not prefer or like as well as others. The way I look at it, Cowboy Bebop as a whole isn't so much of a show as it is an experience. For a point of reference, this show was a bit of a flag ship for the debut of Adult Swim, who started airing it along with other animes like Trigun and dome other shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and home movies back in 2001. Each episode aired in order each week, then starting up with episode 1 again the next week for 4 years straight. Meaning each episode aired 8 times. That's how popular it was.

Ohhh, it's fascinating to see someone go into Cowboy Bebop blind. I grew up in the US in the years before anime came over. Those were dark times; you wouldn't believe how dull cartoons were back then. While my introduction to the medium was Sailor Moon back in 1995, I didn't get into it until Toonami and Adult Swim premiered. While there were many amazing shows, Cowboy Bebop stood above and beyond the rest. It was billed as "the work which becomes a new genre itself." And it absolutely did. It's a combination of many genres, particularly science fiction, action, western, and noir. On the surface, it's about space bounty hunters just trying to get through life. But it's also a series of character studies of well-written, but realistically flawed individuals. To say more would get into spoilers. The animation was excellent for its time, and its English dub remains one of the finest you'll ever hear. Many anime fans consider it to be _the_ gateway series, and for very good reason. But it's the soundtrack that gets people hooked. It's been 20 years, and I _still_ listen to it. You say that Tank doesn't sound like an anime song. And that's the thing; you'll never hear another theme like it. When it came on TV, you _knew_ it was Cowboy Bebop time. It grabbed your attention and held it until the very last beat. The soundtrack is a masterwork of Yoko Kanno (and her band, The Seatbelts), one of the greatest composers in the industry. She started with classical music when she was a kid, and didn't even know about any other genres until she was already in college. She also went on a cross-country trip throughout the United States to expand her repertoire to international music. Her time in New Orleans exposed her to jazz, funk, blues, etc., and this experience stuck with her in the best way. When Cowboy Bebop was being developed, the music became the inspiration for the scenes. Kanno and Shinichiro Watanabe (the show's director) collaborated closely, with the music and animation inspiring and playing off each other. The result is a soundtrack that fits so seamlessly into the show, it's practically a character itself. In the years since, Cowboy Bebop remains _the_ essential anime soundtrack. While you'll probably only hear the first main album, there are actually nearly 100 songs spanning multiple albums. It's okay if you don't get to them. But _definitely_ watch Cowboy Bebop.

Fun fact: you can find different performances of "Tank!" even by the original band who recorded that take, and in proper Jazz style the Sax solo you noted as fire is slightly different each time because, as you noted, it's a Jazz track, and in proper Jazz style it changes up. EDIT: Also, 90s anime had a much wider variety of musical styles for their opening, the "anime opening" you're used to is a much more recent development.

The reason this song is so requested and beloved is because it's DIFFERENT. That shouldn't be so difficult to understand. It's NOT every other anime theme opening. It's different and new and fresh and innovative and FAR more difficult a song to have written and recorded. It's high-octane JAZZ, baby, and it's perfectly in-line with the show, which is also unique among anime. Watch Cowboy Bebop sometime and you'll understand how this theme fits right in.

Mate, you have GOT to watch the opening sequence, it goes perfectly with the music. The opening sequence is a whole lot like a James Bond opening sequence. It's a show about two bounty hunters in space, but it has a serious 50's Route 66 vibe over the top of it. The series itself IS jazz, from the way the plot develops on the overarching story to almost every second of the show being filled with some of the best hard core Jazz I have ever heard. Unlike most other anime, the music is a HUGE part of this anime. It's a perfect match.

No this was the most recommended because Cowboy Bebop is one of those perfect anime, it's a classic. It's an anime where the English dub is actually better than the original in a time where anime dubs sucked. I'm actually really sad you didn't watch the actual opening it's so awesome.

Cowboy Bebop is a beautifully complex yet quirky show. It was made in 1998 when they were just starting to mix hand painted storyboards with cgi it has some of the most beautiful art in anime. Each episode also called a session, is based around a specific genre of music, it fits perfectly to each episode because the composer specifically tailored each soundtrack for the anime. This is also one of the few anime’s you MUST watch in English, the English version was claimed to be better even by the original Japanese director. This show is consistently in most anime fans top favorite anime’s of all time. Many people who don’t like anime still love this show. Hope you watch it you will not be disappointed.

Yoko Kanno is Japanese royalty in the land of soundtracks. During her heyday the studios and productions she's work on reads like a best of list. There's this, a couple Studio Ghibli films, GITS, Lodoss War, Darker Than Black, Escaflowne. And then her big, truly big contribution most western audiences won't get. Macross. Her soundtrack to Macross Plus was so influential, so important, it changed what a decade old series sounded like. Completely. For over 30 years now there hasn't been a Macross.. anything.. where she doesn't get a writing credit. She's the original writer of multiple songs for that series that other people just keep reworking and reimagining. Macross had a soundtrack, it had themes, it had an entire soundscape before her. The stuff she did for the standalone movie undid all that and became the sound of Macross. It'd be like if Bond suddenly just dropped On Her Majesty's Secret Service as the theme. Oh.. and none of her stuff sounds like anime. She's the person they bring in when they want to give a production heft and gravitas. When they don't want it to sound like anime.

This song is incredible, but it truly goes up to another level when you add in the visuals from the openings. Also, Cowboy Bebop is absolutely worth watching. Even if you have never seen anime, Cowboy Bebop has fantastic storytelling and wonderful characters who just work so well together. It's a masterpiece. You should watch the whole show, especially because it is rather short.

oh yes, we're watching. cowboy bebop is old and an absolute legend in the genre. The music was written by Yoko Kanno, a legend in anime music. She had never before even listened to jazz but accepted the job, did her research and dropped one of the most legendary anime soundtracks. Check out this song live by Yoko Kanno and the seatbelts. And for sure, check out the outro song: the real folk blues. Definitely the live version by the seatbelts. Then check the fan version put together during the corona pandemic, with an appearance by Yoko kanno and some of the voice actors. This, my friend, is an anime legend. Watch the series for sure :-).

Adam's warning cannot be understated. Cowboy Bebop Anime = Universally acclaimed as one of the best ever made. Art, story, music - hits it out of the park on every point. 'The Godfather' of anime. Compared to that, the Netflix live-action adaptation, is a toddler trying to re-make the Mona Lisa, by finger painting on the wall with their own feces. Avoid at all costs. And watch the anime - definitely watch the anime - seriously a must see.

You're listening to the album version rather than the anime opening version. Might be too late to redo, but you should have looked at the actual anime opening. A little about Cowboy Bebop. Each episode is labeled as a session and is named after a song. The show features extended songs in blues, jazz, and heavy metal over action sequences. It is old, a real groundbreaker in the industry. And the live remake is trash.

There is a big Jazz community in Japan that goes back Decades, so it's no wonder it snuck into anime as much as it does. Also, if your experience of anime ops is just the hard rock style ones then you probably haven't been watching anime for very long. There are eras of musical styles through the decades of anime, as well as by genre. Cowboy Bebop blew up because of the music, the vibe, the character development, the plot, all of it. It's a Classic that every anime fan definitely needs to watch to understand the history of the modern anime community, especially in the west. The Dub for Bebop is literally one of the Only eng dubs I would ever recommend it is that good.

the show is about a pair of space bounty hunters who essentially nicknamed "Cowboys" so it has a bit of an old west in space feel with each episode having something of musical theming. even the episode titles have something of a musical flare. the entire show just is their escapades trying to catch bounties and their day to day shenanigans. though if you like the opening, should hear the closing theme Real Folk Blues.

Some shows, you fast forward through the opening credits… not Cowboy Bebop. No matter how many times you watch the show, you always let the intro ride, because it is so damn good. The musical instrumentation along with the visuals are so engaging and get you into the feel of the show. If you’re not swinging your head along to the horns at the end of the drop, then there’s something wrong with you. Watch the intro and you’ll see what we mean. See you, Space Cowboy…
