This was a surprise MTV hit when it came out. Danzig was very much an underground band that only got airplay on Headbanger's Ball before this. In fact, the original video for "Mother" ended being banned by the network for a simulated (or real, idk) chicken sacrifice in it.

You really should check-out Glenn Danzig's other bands before this one. Samhain is one of my favorites from the mid-'80s, and of course he was also in The Misfits in the late '70s into the early '80s. Misfits are more of a simplistic punk rock band and Samhain is much more experiemental (which I like). I really enjoy Samhain's "November Coming Fire" from 1986 and The Misfits "Walk Among Us" from 1982. Both albums are worthy of a listen. Check those out for your reactions.

For me he is one of those artists where I have very little middle ground: either the songs he's made (in various bands) I like ALOT, and the others I dislike ALOT.
