Great reaction, this is my favorite rendition of High Hopes - the backing of the string orchestra adds richness and depth, and the orchestral arrangement was lovely (done by Michael Kamen, I believe). As you said, it is perfection. Live in Gdansk also includes the most beautiful rendition of Echoes I've ever heard - the musical interplay between David and Rick is just so sweet. It is also the last performance with Rick (I am SO grateful they recorded this so we have this last gig with Rick), and the last time ever that David will play Echoes, because he won't play it without Rick. Just a wonderful concert throughout. There is a recording of Wot's, uh, the Deal from this concert here on youtube (not available on the disc set) that is also just so sweet, with lovely solos both from Rick and David.

Hello! Thanks so much for watching. Pretty sure it's going to be my favorite version also.. Ah yes, I've reacted to Echoes from the same concert- that ending really got me 😢 Oh cool, haven't heard any version of Wot's yet, but will soon get back to the Obscured album, so I'll get to it. Have a great day/night!

What a brilliant performance!!! Closing out the end of the song with the acoustic guitar and the strings slowly fading away. Beautiful!

As usual Brandon great job with your reaction.. Pink floyd/ David Gilmore.. Always at the top of my list with Zeppelin and Genesis.. This song didn't miss a beat since the album.. Each time I saw floyd it was always that way.. They give the people what they want never strayed away too much from the original.. Unless of course Gilmore added extended guitar solos.. And that you can never get tired of.

First! 😁. Love this song and this performance. A very special concert because of Richard Wright. If you love this song as much as I do….it is interesting to also listen to its cover by Nightwish. A different sound…..but a tribute to the original and done with great respect.

All of the performances of this in the 2000s had that added acoustic ending. (Pompeii included). Just lovely. Gets me everytime. A perfect musical manifestation of long-lost youth. As I quickly approach seven decades on this planet, I can tell you I feel every note of those strings... in ways mere words could never express. Perfection indeed. 🥹 🙏

It was a treat to see this again, such a gorgeous more subdued live version with the beautiful orchestral accompaniment. Whether with Floyd or solo Dave does a superb job every time wonderfully supported by his extraordinary musical colleagues. Cheers

I've not heard this version before and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for broadening my palette Brandon. Maybe I can return the favour with recommending a 9-min instrumental by Santana from their 1972 album Caravanserai: "Every Step of the Way".

Great pick for PF Friday buddy! Amazing to see one of Richard’s last performances… I was lucky to see this song live 29 years ago. I remember getting “Live in Gdańsk” back when it was released. It’s mostly Pink Floyd songs, but David does pepper in a few from his solo albums. Always a treat to listen to!

Man, Gdansk is such a great show. Is this version of "Fat Old Sun" on your list? Y'know a lot of the appeal of live Floyd is how they improvise and alter classic tracks just enough so that old fans get something new, but so pristinely performed that new fans experience the untainted essense of the original album recording. High Hopes and Wish You Were Here are two songs that came out of the oven so fully baked (is that a thing..?) that they tended to not stray too far...and even though I've heard them both fiddy-infinity times, I never tire.

Hi. Yes FOS Gdansk is on my list. Is there a video version though? Wiki says it was omitted from the DVD. Would def be cool hearing a 1970 Floyd song in 2006! Haha fully baked music...it's a thing now 😁 They still sound jawdroppingly good on this tour...Gday!

@@retroreactions.... Ahhh y'know there IS a professionally shot video from the Gdansk show (link attached) but only the audio version is found on Gilmour's official channel. This whole time I've been conflating that version with the other one from his solo tour called "Remember That Night" (the one with his last performance of Echoes with Rick), that was also performed in 2006 at the Royal Albert Hall, but the Gdansk show wasn't released until 2008 **head spin** Easy mistake, that others in this comment thread are making as well lol. You can't go wrong with either version really, they both do something w/ the original recording that make them vastly superior, beyond just Dave's voice being MUCH more confident and less 'prissy n' English', as Roger would say, but Gdansk absolutely slays. Unofficial Gdansk link if you wannit: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aN9_ibd3ms24iIE.html

Digging deeper, it appears to be found on a Spanish-language dvd release, hence why professionally shot. So, NOT "unofficial", just not for the US market.

At this concert, the last performance of " Echoes " was done by David Gilmour(not sure if Roger Waters has ever done it), because DG says it can't be done without RW. A must listen, it says here. RIP Richard Wright As for High Hopes, given DG's age, his vocals were wondrous. Took care of his voice well, unlike too many others

Here's a possible topic for discussion if you ever do a retrospective look back on your Floyd journey; whether your perspective on the guitar as an instrument has changed. It might be a moot point, and if this comment amounts to throwing you to the Floyd wolves for "not necessarily being a guitar guy" feel free to delete it, but I know for me, Gilmour singlehandedly made me appreciate just how many different ways the guitar could be utilized to create beauty. That led me down the road to discovering Jeff Beck, Satriani, etc., but Dave was absolutely the catalyst. This performance is that notion on full display.

Very interesting question.....in short definitely YES! Not only a broader appreciation of the different tones and effects that can be done with a guitar, but also the expressiveness and the player's ability to communicate through the guitar. Think of all the amazing bands I've covered so far. These bands are the very best in the history of music in teaching these points!!!
