Dusty Springfield is my VERY favorite of the female "British Invasion" singers in the 1960s ALL her songs are FANTASTIC, and THIS one is one of my FAVORITES of hers. Another one I love is "YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME" I HOPE you will react to MORE of Dusty's songs. Just google a list of her songs and pick some. RIP Dusty and THANK YOU for all your GREAT MUSIC.

Dusty ( Mary O',Brien) was one of the greatest singers ever from the UK.Many very good songs. You don't Have to Say you Love Me, Wishing and Hoping, Son of a Preacher Man, A Brand new Me and more. Thankfully was indicated into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing.

Watching you get caught up in the music was lovely. Started with little nodding, then slight shoulder twitching, then full on chair dancing and grinning. ❤😂

Great vocals and a fabulous musical arrangement. Dusty was known to be a perfectionist in the recording studio and fretted about everything, but she must have been over the moon with this fantastic pop record.

I was 9 years old back in 1963 and remember this song really well. Dusty not only looked beautiful, but she had the most amazing voice. My favourite song of hers was Son Of A Preacher Man which was released I believe in 1968.

Dusty was important to music beyond her hits. Dusty paved the way for female singers with an attitude and confidence that was mature and displayed power. She appeared on variety shows, talk shows, and media interviews and was different. She was young but not a hippie, counter culture looking singer. When she talked or sang, she was not of the older generation and not a Stepford Wive. Dusty was the look, style ,and confidence that would define the “ new woman” Baby Boomers. Dusty in Memphis is a great album but the confidence of a British folk singer going to the center of Southern Blues and delta soul to produce a sound and collection that was fantastic is outstanding. We listen to the music but it’s hard to understand the context and meaning without living in the days. Her singing mixed with her moxie made her a trailblazer that influenced singers of her era and until now. First time I heard Amy Winehouse I thought of Dusty Springfield.

A stunning reaction ☀! I think that's a bee-hive hairstyle like The Ronettes. I Only Wanna Be With You was released as the lead single from Dusty Springfield's 1964 album: Stay Awhile/I Only Want To Be With You. It was written by Mike Hawker and Ivor Raymonde. It was produced by Johnny Franz. The song reached #12 on the Hot 100. This was Dusty Springfield's (24 years old) first single as a solo artist as she was previously a member of The Springfields with her brother Tom. This song is about a girl who has finally found the guy of her dreams - or at least she thinks so. It's very much a teenage crush song in the same vein as many of the girl group songs Dusty Springfield loved. When Dusty Springfield came to America and began her solo career, she took more of a Pop/R&B direction inspired by groups like The Shirelles and The Crystals. Miscellaneous Notes 🗃: Dusty Springfield performed this song on the first season of the British TV series: Ready Steady Go!, twice in 1963. She handled hosting duties on some early episodes of the show, and even interviewed The Beatles on the program. Dusty Springfield performed this on the first ever episode of the British TV show: Top Of The Pops, on January 1, 1964. The song served as the theme song for the HBO sitcom: Arliss, from 1997 to 2002, replacing the song: "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)", by the Four Tops which was the series' theme song in its inaugural 1996 season. Lyrics 🗒: I don't know what it is that makes me love you so I only know I never want to let you go 'Cause you started something, oh, can't you see? That ever since we met you've had a hold on me It happens to be true, I only want to be with you It doesn't matter where you go or what you do I want to spend each moment of the day with you Well, look what has happened with just one kiss I never knew that I could be in love like this It's crazy but it's true, I only want to be with you You stopped and smiled at me Asked if I'd care to dance I fell into your open arms And I didn't stand a chance Now, listen, honey, I just want to be beside you everywhere As long as we're together, honey, I don't care 'Cause you started something, oh, can't you see? That ever since we met you've had a hold on me No matter what you do, I only want to be with you Oh, you stopped and you smiled at me Asked if I'd care to dance I fell into your open arms I didn't stand a chance Now hear me darling, I just want to be beside you everywhere As long as we're together, honey, I don't care 'Cause you started something, oh, can't you see? That ever since we met you've had a hold on me No matter what you do, I only want to be with you I said, no matter, no matter what you do I only want to be with you Dusty Springfield Info 📰: Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien aka Dusty Springfield was born on April 16, 1939 in London England. She passed away on March 2, 1999, in Henley-On-Thames, England. She was a singer, songwriter and TV Host. With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was a popular singer of Blue-Eyed Soul, Pop and Dramatic Ballads, with French Chanson, Country, and Jazz in her repertoire. During her 1960s peak, she ranked among the most successful British female performers on both sides of the Atlantic. Her image, marked by a peroxide blonde bouffant/beehive hairstyle, heavy makeup including thick black eyeliner and eye shadow, and evening gowns, as well as stylised, gestural performances, made her an icon of the Swinging Sixties. The discography of Dusty Springfield includes twenty one studio albums, one live album, thirty compilations, four extended plays and sixty-nine singles. Some of Dusty Springfield's albums and singles were unreleased, most notably her 1974 album: Longing. Additionally, many of her early US album releases were released by the US arm of Philips Records, using material recorded in England and America with US and UK single releases included and re-ordered. Born in West Hampstead in London into a family that enjoyed music, Dusty Springfield learned to sing at home. In 1958, she joined her first professional group: The Lana Sisters. Two years later, with her brother Tom Springfield and Tim Feild, Dusty Springfield formed the Folk-Pop vocal trio: The Springfields. Two of their five 1961-63 Top 40 UK hits - "Island of Dreams" and "Say I Won't Be There" - reached no. 5 in the charts, both in the spring of 1963. In 1962 they also hit big in the United States with their cover of "Silver Threads and Golden Needles". Dusty Springfield's solo career began in late 1963 with the upbeat Pop single: "I Only Want To Be with You", a UK no. 4 hit, and the first of her six transatlantic Top 40 hits in the 1960s, along with "Stay Awhile" (1964), "All I See Is You" (1966), "I'll Try Anything" (1967) and the two releases now considered her signature songs: "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" (1966 UK no. 1/US no. 4) and "Son Of A Preacher Man" (1968/69 UK no. 9/US no. 10). The latter features on the 1968 Pop and Soul album: Dusty In Memphis, one of her most defining albums of her career. In March 2020, the US Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry, which preserves audio recordings considered to be "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". Between 1964 and 1969, Dusty Springfield hit big in her native Britain with several singles which in America either failed to chart or were not released, among them: "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" (the biggest of her many Bacharach/David covers), "In The Middle of Nowhere", "Some Of Your Lovin'", "Goin' Back" and "I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten". Conversely, she charted in the US (but not in the UK) with hits including: "Wishin' And Hopin'", "The Look Of Love" and "The Windmills Of Your Mind". From 1971 to 1986, Dusty Springfield failed to register a hit from five album releases, aside from a minor 1979 UK chart appearance, but her 1987 collaboration with UK Synth-Pop duo Pet Shop Boys: "What Have I Done to Deserve This?", took her back to the top of the charts, reaching no. 2 on both the UK singles chart and Billboard's Hot 100. The collaboration also yielded two 1989 UK Top 20 hits: "Nothing Has Been Proved" and "In Private". In 1990, Dusty Springfield charted with the single: "Reputation", the last of 25 Top 40 UK hits in which she features. In 2006, The South Bank Show presented a TV documentary on Dusty Springfield. On January 12, 2006, an Australian stage musical: Dusty - The Original Pop Diva, received its world premiere at the State Theatre of the Victorian Arts Centre, Melbourne. In 2012, a biographical jukebox musical titled: Forever Dusty, opened Off-Broadway in New York City at New World Stages. The production starred Kirsten Holly Smith as Dusty Springfield. Holly Smith also co-wrote the book of the musical. Miscellaneous Notes 🗃: In the 1960s she topped a number of popularity polls, including Melody Maker's Best International Vocalist for 1966; in 1965 she was the first British singer to top the New Musical Express readers' polls for Female Singer, and topped that poll again in 1966, 1967, and 1969 as well as gaining the most votes in the British Singer category from 1964 to 1966. A fixture on British television, Dusty Springfield hosted many episodes of the hip 1963-66 British TV music series Ready Steady Go! and, between 1966 and 69, hosted her own TV series on the BBC and ITV. International polls have lauded Dusty Springfield as one of the finest female popular singers of all time. Dusty Springfield is an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1999) and the UK Music Hall of Fame (2006) and the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame (2023). She has been placed among the top 25 female artists of all time by readers of Mojo magazine (May 1999), editors of Q magazine (January 2002), and a panel of artists on VH1 TV channel (August 2007). In 2008, Dusty appeared at No. 35 on the Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Singers of All Time". Her album: Dusty In Memphis has been listed among the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone and in polls by VH1 artists, New Musical Express readers, and the Channel 4 viewers, and in 2001, received the Grammy Hall of Fame award. In 2020, her album: Dusty In Memphis, was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Dusty Springfield (April 16, 1939 - March 2, 1999) Passing 🙏: In January 1994, while recording her final album: A Very Fine Love, in Nashville, Tennessee, Dusty Springfield began feeling ill. When she returned to England a few months later, her physicians diagnosed her with breast cancer. She received months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and the cancer was found to be in remission. In 1995, in apparent good health, Dusty Springfield set about promoting the album, which was released that year. By mid-1996, the cancer had returned, and despite vigorous treatments, she passed away in Henley-On-Thames, Oxfordshire, England, on March 2, 1999, a month before her 60th birthday. Dusty Springfield's funeral service was attended by hundreds of fans and people from the music business, including Elvis Costello, Lulu and Pet Shop Boys. It took place at the Anglican St Mary the Virgin church in Henley-On-Thames. A marker dedicated to her memory was placed in the church graveyard. In accordance with Dusty Springfield's wishes, she was cremated and some of her ashes were buried at Henley-On-Thames, while the rest were scattered by her brother, Tom Springfield, at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. ****CONTINUE BELOW****

I'm particularly fond of this one and another Dusty song called 'I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten' - so dramatic and shows off her expressive voice so well.. And I also love her first hit record when she was in a little folk group with her brother and a friend: 'Island of Dreams'. Let them whisk you away to that magical island!
