Joan Blackman was his co-star. She'll be 85 later this month. She also co-starred with him in "Kid Galahad." In the 1970s Elvis said something to the effect that the wedding scene was so realistic I thought I was married to the chick. When she was 18 Elvis took her to see "The Ten Commandments." Gladys had to remind him to be quiet because he was explaining each scene in its biblical context.

You crack me up, Seph 😂😂😂 Wise men! Yes, Seph. You'll have three wise men at your wedding day making sure you sure up on time and not looking half as hung over as you feel (you regret listening to your pals about Scottish beer going well with Jaegermeister which filled you with a sudden need to show off your hula skills on the billiards table and all this the night before your wedding. Really, Seph, your life choices need some re- evaluating. But then again, your soon to be wife chose "10,000 Hours" by Justin Bieber and Dan + Shah as your wedding song. Which was 2021's most popular wedding song of the year. Life choices, Seph 😄) All kidding aside: Those flower necklaces are called leis. Not wreaths. And a groom's sidekicks are called... Drum roll please... Groomsmen! Yay 🎉🎆🎊🎈🎉🎆🎊🎈🙌💃🙌💃 Okay, this is a long one, so getting right into it, then: "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" was written by Charles E. King, Al Hoffman, and Dick Manning. But before we dig deeper into the song's history: Elvis & Co. recorded this on March 22, 1961 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, CA. "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" was originally titled "Ke Kali Nei Aua" written by Charles Edward King. It was from his 1926 composition that the 1958 version was adapted from and put English lyrics to by Al Hoffman and Dick Manning. However, the first English version was recorded by Bing Crosby, titled "The Rainbow Ends Here" with those lyrics by Johnny Burke. Bill Crosby recorded his version on February 9, 1951 with Betty Mullin and Lyn Murray and His Orchestra. In 1958, it was actually Andy Williams who first recorded "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" as written by Al Hoffman and Dick Manning. Any Williams's version was accompanied by Archie Bleyer and his orchestra with backing vocals provided by Anita Wood (who was coincidentally Elvis's girlfriend at that time). Any Williams's version was released in November 1958 and reached #11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and #27 on the R&B chart. There are other notable recordings, even by modern day artists. So I'll only be focusing on Charles Edward King here on thrcsongwriter's info. There's just a lot, Seph. My humble apologies. Charles Edward King was born on January 29, 1874 on the Estate of Queen Emma of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. He was of part Hawaiian native/ aboriginal descent and his parents were Walter & Mary Ann Brash. King was adopted by his maternal grandfather after the death of his mother and was christened by his godmother Queen Emma at St. Andrew's Cathedral (cathedral of the Episcopal Church of Hawaii and is now the home of the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii). In 1891, King graduated from Kamehameha School and Charles Reed Bishop, husband of Bernice Pauahi Bishop (member of the Royal Hawaiian family) paid his tuition at Oswego Primary Teacher's Training School in New York. Charles E. King returned to Hawaii, teaching music in the Kailua- Kona School district and also at Kamehameha School for Boys. King successfully ran on the Republican ticket in 1918 for a seat in the Territory of Hawaii senate (Hawaii did not become a U.S. State until 1959, by the way, so that's why it was called a U.S. Territory back then. Puerto Rico, for instance, is U.S. Territory, not a state). The College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts of the Territory of Hawaii was authorized by the legislature in 1907 and first began operating in 1908 on Young Street in Honolulu. The institution's name was changed in 1911 to the College of Hawaii and relocated to the Manoa valley. A community need to expand the school's curriculum and offer university- level degrees, lead to King introducing Senate Bill 76 in 1919 creating the legislation to establish the University of Hawaii at Manoa. While still serving in legislature, King also lead campus song concerts at the university. Charles Edward grew up surrounded by traditional Hawaiian mele (chants, songs, or poems; the term comes from the Hawaiian language; it is frequently used in song titles such as "He Mele Lahui Hawaii" composed in 1866 by Lilioukalani as a national anthem) style of music and was a musical protege of Lilioukalani. King began pursuing songwriting some time in mid- life, publishing the first two of his three books when he was 42 years old. The most famous song associated with King, "Ke Kali Nei Au" ("Waiting For Thee" in English) is known to today's audiences as "The Hawaiian Wedding Song". Recorded by numerous modern- day artists, King's original lyrics are not the same as the 1958 translation by Al Hoffman and Dick Manning. King's version was not a wedding song but one of several tunes written for his Hawaiian- language opera 'The Prince of Hawaii'. At it's May 4, 1925 premiere Ray Kinney starred in the lead of Prince Kauikala with Rose Tribe as Queen Kamaka and Joseph Kamakau as King Kalani. The production toured the mainland of the United States with King in 1926. "Ke Kali Nei Au" was first recorded in Honolulu on May 22, 1928 on the Columbia Records label as a duet with Helen Desha Beamer and Sam Kapu, Sr., accompanied by the Don Barrientos and his orchestra. At the 1917 state funeral of his musical mentor Lilioukalani King lead the Young People's League in singing her composition "Aloha Oe" on the balcony of Iolani Palace as her catafalque was carried out to to take her casket for entombment in the Kalakau Crypt of the Royal Mausaleum of Mauna 'Ala. King served as conductor of the Royal Hawaiian Band for two non- sequential periods, 1932- 1934 and 1939- 1941. In 1911, Kong's wife, Jean Bates died of breast cancer and was buried at Kawaiah' O Church cemetery. Through his musical work with the Young People's League he became acquainted with Emma Lifted of Kona. The couple was married by Rev. Akaiko Akana on July 26, 1915. When the United States entered World War II, King relocated to Elmhurst, New York with his last wife Regina P. Hughes and began pursuing his music publishing interests. He died on February 27, 1950. On a partial list of his compositions, I counted 68 songs he wrote (1 one of which he co- wrote). Additional Note(s): Andy Williams version slightly varies in that he did not sing the Hawaiian language verse. Elvis did sing the Hawaiian language verse on his recording of this song. Okay, PHEW! DONE! I hope you see & read this, Seph. I know got it in late. So my apologies. I LOVE YOUR REACTION HERE! Oh my Gawd, you had me rolling sideways with this one! Yes, all aboard the Elvis 🚂💨🍂🍃🍁🌿 Choo- choo! Peace ✌, love 💖, & blessings 🙏 to yours & to one & all here as well 💕

Great reaction Steph and I suppose endorsed the continuation of these type of films much to the chagrin of those who wanted him back to his rocking roots. As a matter of interest Angela Lansbury (his mother) with white hat can be seen through the misted screen at 4.57-5.00 here walking with her husband top left.

@@SephPlays You are so welome.Just a trivial aside. My son (in the army) went to Hawaii and brought back these "sticks" that grow the plumeria plant. This is the plant's blooms that they make the leis from. This was several years ago. One of my plumerias is getting ready to bloom. I Live on the east coast of the USA so I have to bring these plants in for the winter. Just a fun tidbit. When are you going to watch Blue Hawaii?

Alot of reaction channels are getting copyright strikes lately because they aren't following fair use rules. By law we have to "Change" the orginal footage so its different from the orginal. I talk through it, pause it every so often and blur it out. If i didn't do this i could end up getting in serious legal problems and in some rare cases, even get sued for copyright infringement. So im sorry Deana, i would rather make you angry then a billion dollar company.
