Dre might not be a lyricist, but he has a very good flow with excellent timing and breath control. As long as a talented rapper writes him some raw ass verses, he'll deliver, even adapting his flow to match the lyricist. Whether it was Ice Cube when he was with NWA, Pac when with Deathrow, or Em at Aftermath.

When Dre gets handed lyrics by Em and Jay, it's easier to have great flow. Not a shot at Dre, but a hat tip to Em and Jay. If you watch Kanye documentary, you notice his flow isnt great on many big tracks of College Dropout. You're thinking "must just wound better on the track", but then you see a scene where Jay shows him how to get in to the track and flow. Moments later, Kanye sounds like Kanye!

Dr Dre's the chronic album changed rap forever. It ushers in the west coast vs east coast rap wars and was where almost everything jumps off from outside of NWA, Ice Cube, and a few others. Dre introduces us to Snoop in "Nuthin but a G thang" and from there the tree branches out, solidifying gangster rap as here to stay for the next decade.
@cagnazzo82
@cagnazzo82 Жыл бұрын
Agree with most of what you said. But I would say the Chronic popularized West Coast rap in general. But the beef at the time was Death Row vs Ruthless Records and Dre vs Eazy. East Coast vs West Coast was going on at that time, but the West was also having beef on their own side. All of it turns to East vs West once Eazy is out of the picture.

The reason Dre didn't wanna sign 50 wasn't because he thought he was wack, it's because of 50's reputation at that time. After 50 got shot he got dropped by Columbia Records and no other label, including Dre/Aftermath, wanted to sign dude somebody who was that deep in the trenches. You gotta remember that almost ALL of the street dudes in NY had real beef with 50 back then. Em was the only one smart and crazy enough to take that risk and it worked.

Keisha Cole is dope but Mary J is legendary status in R&B. I’m sure Keisha would agree. As far as Dre as a rapper, albums are Platinum. That should tell you what you need to hear.

I was born in 89, and I swear the nineties, and even up to twenty ten, was the golden era for rap and hip hop. Tupac, DMX, Wu Tang Clan, Biggie, Eazy E, Andre 3000 and even OutKast, Mystikal, Missy Elliot, Lil Kim, NWA, Bone Thugz N Harmony, I loved rap before Eminem and Lil Wayne era but those two artists alone made me forever a rap fan.
