Eydie also performed on Broadway and in Las Vegas. Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme were a married singing duo as well as solo artists. I think I still have my parents 45 rpm record of this song.

Husband & wife team Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme were two of the biggest stars of nightclubs, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, etc. during the 50s, 60s and 70s. They were regular featured performers on the original "Tonight Show" starring Steve Allen and made countless appearances on television (together and separate). They were truly legendary performers.

Eydie Gormet was married to Steve Lawrence. She sang on Broadway and on variety shows in the 50's and 60's. Steve had a string of hit records himself. They were very, very popular. This song is probably what she's best remembered for.

This couple had a long career and were very popular. They had lots of records and appeared on all the variety shows of their day. There was a huge popular wave of the Bossa Nova in the 60's. You've got to listen to Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass too

This is a fun song but doesn't demonstrate how good Eydie Gorme's voice really is. She had several recordings with Trio Los Panchos. She sang boleros or Spanish romantic ballads. Her voice is great on those recordings. Here are a few songs: Sabor a Mi, Nosotros and Historia de un Amor.

So right, Terrible song to get introduced to her and it’s not even Bossa Nova. It was just a commercialized song to take advantage of the craze at that time and rake in some cash.

Now this is a blast from the past. Last time I heard it I walk into a house party on the main level and the music was in the basement where everyone was dancing. However everyone was dancing on the main Level too. BJ, good on you for starting the dancing. Please note that it was not just this song, it was the rest from the 60's. We were lucky back then!

Eydie Gorme (pronounced Ee-dee Gor-may) was one of the greatest female vocalists of all time!!! This was one of her most popular songs, but it does little to truly showcase her exquisite voice. She also had an incredible career with her husband, Steve Lawrence, another of the great vocalists of my time, who had his own great solo career. But together, they were pure magic, and were the top nightclub act in the world for many, many years, referred to as simply Steve & Eydie!!! And rightfully so!!!! Listen to Eydie --I'd suggest I'll Take Romance, My Funny Valentine, If He Walked Into My Life & The Man I Love, among hundreds & hundreds more!!! Listen to Steve - Portrait Of My Love, On A Wonderful Day Like Today, Mama, A Rainbow (soooo beautiful!!), & In The Still Of The Night, among hundreds & hundreds more!!! Listen to Steve & Eydie together - We Got Us, Through The Years, This Could Be The Start Of Something Big, A Lot Of Living To Do, & Hallelujah, among hundreds & hundreds more!!! Whatever you do, do yourselves the favor of inviting Steve & Eydie & all their incredible talent into your lives!! You'll be so glad you did!! BTW - Steve & Eydie were married in 1957 & were together until Eydie passed in 2013, and they toured together until about 2010, drawing SRO crowds wherever they went!!! Steve is still with us, and recently celebrated his 87th birthday.

It's nice to see you two having some great fun with this old stuff. I liked this song when it came out but I was surprised to hear that it was 1963. I guess I was 7 when it came out but I would have thought it was a few years later; I must be starting to lose track of dates for things. Her husband had a big hit with a song called Go Away Little Girl. Here's a song that would be a wee bit controversial today; would you please give a listen to Wives and Lovers by Jack Jones. Another fun one is Connie Stevens & Edd Byrnes Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb

Back when Rock was getting started a lot of people thought that it was evil. So some of them started pushing more acceptable dances such as the Bosa Nova, Sambas, and other Latin dances to replace Rock. It didn't work. I remember back in 5th grade when it rained we'd have PE in the Gym and they tried to teach the Bosa Nova and other dances. Another dance they favored was The Bristol Stomp.

This was not true bossa nova, a pop hit when the bossa nova was all the rage in the early 60's. Try the beautiful Astrud Gilberto, you might know her most famous hit "The Girl from Ipanema". The back story on how she got started is crazy. Jazz sax player Stan Getz was interested in Brazilian music and he teamed up with Joao Gilberto (Astrud's husband) and they created one of the bestselling and popular bossa nova albums of all time. Getz thought Girl from Ipanema would be a hit, but he wanted Joao to sing it in English, but he did not know English at all. So, Getz asks Astrud, who was acting as her husband's interpreter, if she could sing. She said yes, but never professionally. So, this was the first song she sang on record and it went to No. 1 and she only sang it because she knew English. Even stranger, after the session, the gorgeous 22-year-old Astrud left her hunky young Brazilian husband for Getz who was 46 but looked 66. The affair only lasted a few years, but Astrud had already become a star. Try her "Quiet Nights and Quiet Stars", too

You know they are being really nice people when they don’t wince at 2:53. Eydie blows that vocal straight to hell at that point, and there is no denying it whatsoever. I have even heard that she did it on purpose, because she hated the song so much.

Samba and Bossa Nova are very different for one, and this song is not a Bossa Nova song. A popular example of Bossa Nova you may have heard since it introduced Bossa Nova to the world is “The Girl From Ipanema.” As far as Samba, just look up Brazilian Carnival and you’ll hear many of the Dambs School Bands, nothing like Dirty Dancing.
