Profound. Love songs are always in C, which i always associate the C-note with the vigor of the color red. The opposite of Red is Green (just as the tritone is the opposite note): F-sharp. This song of longing is in F#. What's interesting is that the man is not singing about BEING in love; rather, he is lost and almost pleading FOR someone's love. F-natural and F# as pastoral keys (see the Bach and Beethoven pastoral symphonies) are un-stable, transitional keys. ( That being said, it is startling how accurately the F# key was chosen for the song. One sees this type of psychologically-dependent usage of keys in Classical music quite often. It is refreshing to know that there are pop and rock musicians that DO understand the secrets of the 24 major and minor keys. It is clear that Foreigner do not follow Adam Neely and Rick Beato's geeky KZfaq "analysis" of popular music. F# as green, is the color of desire and reaching out ("the grass is always greener on the other side.") But is also a letting-go; to accept love is to surrender to it.
