There are some stories about this song Scarborough Fair..what I've read was this is a song from a ghost (soul) of a dead soldier. He asked the herbs growing on his dead body to deliver his message to his beloved girl in Scarborough Fair where was a big herb market. He asked the herbs to tell her impossible task like "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt without no seams nor needle work" to make her give up waiting for his coming back as he's already unable as he's dead. Forestella sang like as messengers of this sad and beautiful story. Also there are symbols those herbs significated: parsley for comfort or to remove bitterness, sage for strength, thyme for courage, rosemary for love. There's some speculation that these four herbs were used in a tonic of some sort to remove curses. What I first heard was to remove memories..so I thought he (the dead soldier) wanted to remove the memory about him from his girl to make her not mourning for him any more. BTW I found those herbs cannot be grown in same areas in fact while on my researching for English references.. so it could be just for remembering recipe for turkey seasoning ingredients, too.

luckily for all of us, the "blocked for copyright reasons" doesn't matter for Forestella's performances.

Forestella is one of my latest discoveries. Each of them has a great voice, but their harmony when they sing together is outstanding. Their group name is a mixture of "forest" and the Latin/Italian word "stella", which means star. So Forestella means a forest of stars. Their names from left to right in this video: Ko Woorim (classically trained bass), Kang Hyungho (countertenor and rock voice, no vocal training), Cho Mingyu (tenor and leader of the group), Bae Doohoon (tenor, musical actor). From a performance point of view, I think their cover versions of "Je suis malade" and "If I leave" will satisfy you. Melancholy and emotions run throughout the whole songs. Just subbed, I like the way you watch, absorb, and describe what the music does to you and also how you feel about it. FORESTELLA ARE AMAZING. As a lady of 60 years and counting, Forestella have brought new versions of songs I have known for a long time and put a totally unique spin on them. I've been following forestella for a while now and I've had "goosebumps" all the time ever since. The voices are unique on their own but when they sing together it just blows you away. They cover songs of all genres and make each song completely their own without losing the spirit of the original. They always deliver a perfect overall performance, also in terms of emotionality and interpretation. Please react Je suis malade, champions or bohemian rhapsody and you will see. The song "Save our live" from the latest album is the best. A truely epic masterpiece. It's like a star trek warp speed moment, they just sort of pick you up and drag you along with them. I think there is not only one way to interpret a song, or even lyrics. You can look back on a broken heart with nostalgia too. There is sadness there, but it's more like they look back at memories over time, which is emphasized by the clock behind, too. IForestella always puts their own interpretation on a song, they don't strictly perform it as the original.

Maybe too late for this comment, but since you were wondering the lacking of sadness at the beginning - here's my understanding of their physical emotional expression: when you first recalled the memories of your love, you feel happy and that makes you smile, however since you didnt go to the happy ending, you feel sad and regreted, that's how your emotion evolved

They have "performed" from the start. That jovial face was an expression of a past - a past of happier times as part of recollection. It's a matter of interpretation. Your interpretation may not be the same as someone else who is looking at the same piece.

I really love hearing a low voice in a pop group, especially when he's given the lead & real dramatic moments in the song! I don't think Forestella has quite the perfect vocal balance & blending of the very top-tier a capella groups, but I could listen to them sing in this rather folk/acoustic style all day & half the night. I think Mingyu's opening "happy" was a choice so the audience could be part of the journey to wistful and sad. I'm glad you stuck it out and appreciated their performance through to the ending. I don't remember how he showed up for me but I love that he is succeeding in spite of all he is going through. PPS I'm a BTS fan, more for their dancing and lyrics than anything else (yes, I saw you reacted to our boy Jungkook). They entertained me during the pandemic and because of that a whole new world has been opened for me. Many of the BTS reactors I follow also reacted to Forestella which is how I finally discovered them (two weeks ago). Other artists, too, but I'll leave that for another post. Pop music has been a refuge during the past several years of DT and the pandemic, Pop music is something I never expected to actually enjoy again at my age. Forestella is what I grew up with. My dad put together a group like The Four Freshman as an example. I grew up surrounded by jazz musicians with sounds like Tal Farlow and Johnny Smith. This may sound silly, but seeing and listening to great talent on KZfaq gives me hope for future generations. Politicians and the reality of the changing world sometimes feels like everything is going to hell in a handbasket but artists finding a way to succeed in the new medias tells me all will be well in the world. Wonderful eh? And not even their best. Try "Bohemian Rhapsody" 👏 "Shape of you" 😂, "Sweet Dreams", or my favourite "Je suis Malade" 😢. The deep bass is Ko WooRim (Classically trained), then you have the guy with the very high vocals Kang Hyung-Ho (who had NO VOCAL TRAINING prior to joining Forestella, and was... A part time Rock singer). 😂 😲 Don't know if you've Reacted to Chinese singer Hua Chenyu... Best performer on the Planet for me. Better than Freddie Mercury (who I followed from BEFORE Queen were famous), and David Bowie combined. Hua Hua sings everything. "Nunchucks" is a good fun intro (not even in my Top 50 Hua Hua Performances). But if you want emotion try "I am what I am" or "I really want myself back". Sadly his two most emotional performances "Dad Im home" (domestic abuse) and "Dear Friend" keep being taken down in live form with English Subs. They are truly.. MAGNIFICENT. I get how you felt about the first two parts of the song, which sound sweet coupled with expressions to match. This doesn’t seem to match the melancholy of the song. Simon and Garfunkel’s version, however, was also very sweet throughout. This version takes us on a journey of emotions. First, there are fond memories. Then, with the key changes, the second half gets increasingly darker until it reaches the final discordant harmony, What do you think?
