There was a reason they called Frank Sinatra "The Voice." He would be the pop music equivalent of the operatic vocal perfection of Luciano Pavarotti. And frankly, at this point his age is starting to show in his voice. What he has left is still far more than many vocalists have at their peak. And the slightly worn edge that's entered his voice particularly fits this song. As his technique slightly faded, his depth of understanding became stronger. If you listen to some of his earlier stuff, it will be somewhat more polished, but you won't find that knowledge that only comes with age that shines through in this performance.

We played it at my grandad's funeral, he was born in London in '51, but spent the last 20 or so years of his life living in southern Wales. He was an avid Frank fan, the only singer he liked more was James Taylor, so we had "My Way" playing as the pall bearers carried him in, and "You've Got a Friend" as we all left. It's a perfect send-off song, truly :)

Fun fact: "My way" was first a french song, music composed by Jacques Revaux in 1967. It was sung by a very famous french singer, Claude François (who died tragically in 1979 at 39, it was a national drama, kind of like when Elvis died in the US). The song was called back then "Comme d'habitude" (as usual) and told the sad and common story of a couple living together but no longer loving each other, going through the motions of life and pretend love. It's quite sad. Then it was adapted in english and became "My way" in 1969, I believe. Jacques Revaux must be the richest guy on the planet thanks to a single song!

Before there were the Beatles, before there was Elvis, there was Frank Sinatra. Back in th 40s (before my time, lol) Frank Sinatra was the singer the girls went nuts over. They were called "bobby soxers". His career went on for decades. He refused to sing rock n roll songs, but still had numerous hits during the rock era. In '66, he had his biggest hit "Strangers in the Night" which knocked the Beatles from the # 1 spot on the hit parade. He was also a great actor, and won an Oscar for "From Here to Eternity". You can make a good argument that Frank Sinatra was the biggest star of the 20th century.

VERY expensive ticket, but well worth it. If you're gonna go down this rabbit hole...well...it's a DEEP one. He had HUNDREDS of hits, and is considered by many to be the greatest and most influential male pop singer of all time. I'm loving to watch these "reaction" videos... yes, I'm an old hippie granny with a large collection of old songs... but it gives me so much joy to see younger folks attach to the musical treasure... yes, I'm subscribing... I hope you'll explore more of the great old songs of the 50's and 60's.

First, it reminds me of how old I am when there are people who have never heard Frank! :-) Having said that i am so glad you are taking a shot. You need to also listen to Sammy Davis JR. (the greatest entertainer in history) and Dean Martin whose voice I like just a little better than Frank. Ok ladies don't kill me! LOL I get Frank is Frank but Dean's voice was also amazing! They were part of what they used to call the Rat Pack. There were 5 members of the original Rat Pack but in reality Sammy, Frank, and Dean were the core. Frank was know as the Chairman of the Board. Check it out. It is an interesting story.

"Summer Wind" is classic Sinatra. Also "The Way You Look Tonight," "Witchcraft," and about 200 or 300 more.

This gives me the chills every time I hear it, sublime. A version that brings tears to my eyes is when Andre Rieu and his orchestra and singers did this on stage at Radio City Hall in New York, they had a big screen showing people in the audience reacting to this and footage of immigrants arriving on boats to New York, it was in homage to Frank Sinatra, Andre Rieu is a famous violin 🎻 player. Music pulls on the heartstrings at times.

I grew up hearing Sinatra on the radio, so that voice just sends me back to those old days. He was my parents' generation, and his career continued unchecked for several decades, I guess. He acted in movies, did tv specials displaying that wonderful musical talent, even danced. He had a full career, a long life and a family he loved. After divorce from his children's mother, the magazines were well-stocked with pics of the many beautiful women he dated later on, also he married again at least once more. Frank Sinatra was a "dreamboat", a fine actor, fabulously talented singer, ladies' man, and truly did do it his way.

I think my mother owned every Frank Sinatra album that was ever recorded on earth, she sang his songs from morning till night. As I grew older I learned how to appreciate his music. Please do a reaction to Strangers in the night and Fly me to the moon is also good to go down memory lane with. 💖

Frank was awesome. He was a teen idol back in the the 40's. Later became an actor and was in some great movies. He won an Oscar for his role in "From Here To Eternity." I'm from NYC, but my kids grew up in New Jersey and as young adults lived in Hoboken and Jersey City - where Frank Sinatra grew up and lived in the early days of his first marriage. He is still a hometown hero. I remember listening to the Frank Sinatra on The Make Believe Ballroom with William B. Williams when I was a child. The sound of his voice triggers a lifetime of memories.
