One of the most important things to know about (G)I-DLE is that Soyeon (the main rapper with the short black hair in this song) writes, composes, and produces almost *everything* they release. She's one of my favorite producers period, let alone one of my favorite idol producers. And a few of the other members (Yuqi, Minnie) have started writing songs as well! The three of them have such distinct writing styles, too, which is SO cool to see in action on their latest album. So yeah, definitely check out more of them! Bangers ONLY.

(G)I-dle is what I call a "100% group". Meaning : all the entire discography is good. Nothing to skip. And probably 90% of their production is credited to Soyeon (the barbwire girl). 😍

Bro ain't no way (G)Idle is so frikin good. Jeon Soyeon is literally one of the most talented female rappers out there, so you should definitely check her out. I HIGHLY recommend "Bad Bitch Number" by her, as this holds her fastest rap! I also recommend "Lion" by (G)Idle!

Oh My God has one of my favorite antidrops in K-Pop. That chorus is nasty in the best possible way, it's hollow and so sonically deep it feels bottomless. The whole song feels like you're being put into a trance as you're lead to a ritualistic sacrifice, and when you get to the antidrop, they throw you off a cliff into the abyss. And you're floating in space just hypnotized by the music.

Some things to know before going deep into (G)I-DLE Soyeon created Latata because CUBE Entertainment couldn't give them a suitable debut song, she was 19 yo at that time (almost 20) but it was just the starting of our journey ! She then created and (co)produced almost every single song, every song used as a main song (Title Track) are Soyeon's creation As for today, counting this comeback (I Never Die), there is only one song where Soyeon didn't took part in any kind of way and it's Polaroid created and (co)produced by Yuqi Soyeon is always involved at least in the lyrics because she can't rap a line/verse that she didn't herself wrote - Because she think rappers should write their stuff - And also because she want to express her feeling though her writting All of (G)I-DLE members have somehow unique voices, Soyeon wasn't ok with the other members voice coaches because they wanted them to be generic for the K-POP industry (if I understood correctly), but she thought that their atypical voices would be the group' strength. Nowaday we have a producer line, Soyeon (ofc), Minnie and then Yuqi Minnie wanted to produce song as well, so she come out with "Blow your mind" she created alongside with Soyeon, she then created other song (Moon,Dahlia etc...) Yuqi then join in the producer line too, with the co-created/produced (alongside Minnie) song "I'm the Trend" which is seen as Nevies anthem. Neverland being the fandom name of (G)I-DLE We now have 3 capable producer, that can fire in the future and we saw it threw the album "I never die" With this comeback Miyeon voiced her growing desire to write and produce songs too, so maybe next comeback we will have a Miyeon production too ! Yuqi did her solo debut on 2021 with "Giant" and "Bonnie and Clyde", she also used to be in "Learn Way: Season 1" also known as "Learn Wave" during 2020 Her solo debut show how deep and attractful her voice is, I highly recommend listening to it Minnie started her actress career with "So not worth it" in 2021 aswell which is a Netflix serie She also had a lot of model shoot during this year Unfortunetly Soojin got caught in a bully scandal, being accused by an actress, which lead her to not being active from February 2021 to August 2021, then leaving (G)I-DLE but staying under Cube Entertainment from "August 2021" After bringing the police to the table and juridic case, it was difficult to prove whether the actress lied or not or whether Soojin was a bully or not since the event occured 10-12 years ago... Which lead Soojin leaving Cube Entertainment at the beginning of March (I will not take position on this, I'm only LARGELY summarizing) "Hwaa" was released January 11 2021 and seens that date we didn't had comeback (I don't count "Last dance" since it's a promotional song for "Universe") and every member took a break and focused more on solo stuff. Foreign line (Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua) going back in their country. It was a hiatus of one year and two months before this comeback, members said recently that this album would be a "go or die", like their final chance. I will not come across everything they had done during 2021/early 2022 but it's mind blowing They are slaying hard on this comeback, charting well in South Korea, receiving lot's of praise, etc... and I hope everyone will show them support and love for all the harsh time they've been threw during 2021 (and since there debut) Fellow nevies just remember that opening fan war isn't necessarily, (G)I-DLE was always seen as black swan but in the end they always come up with good stuff We know what they are made of, and we just need to put our hands and mind to support them, our Queens ! One of the things I love about this group is their daring and the queer rep! This is a great first vid, and "Lion" would be a great follow-up. I've been a K-pop fan since 2010, so your genuine joy is super refreshing and really brightens up my whole day. Oh and just as a warning: Taemin is going to blow your entire mind. This is the idol who inspired hundreds of other idols, including Jimin from BTS. He's been an idol since the tender age of 14 as a member of the group SHINee, and he's made an indelible mark on the K-pop industry as a solo artist as well. (G)I-DLE is connected to BLACKPINK in a few ways. One member, Miyeon was a YG trainee who was supposed to debut with them, but left YG for Cube entertainment. And Minnie(the one who started this song) is one of Lisas closest friends, they're both Thai and even spent Christmas together in their home country.

(G)I-DLE is known for self producing and have unique voice range They don't take usual vocal lessons like many other idols because usual kpop vocal lessons tend to teach high pitch vocal for female singers (it may good or bad depends on the singers) But (G)I-DLE want to keep their own tones, this is why they particularly sound different, also the songs are written for them for their voices so the vocals are emphased and not drowned under the instrumentals

I think, along with Mamamoo Idle remains my top girl group song. The concept, the songs, all of it is so different, they're standing for themselves, their vocals are no jojes. I freaking adore them Edit : I also forgot to say how much I love their enrgy, their acting, their vocals, their clothing and the story. Soyeon is such a badass. Oh Ly God is the song that introdiced me to Gidle and i' not gettinganywhere since. This MV is a work of art. Similar in style are "Lion" and "Hwaa". "Latata" would also be good as their debut song, if you feel you want to start at the beginning. I've seen a few other comments already talk about Soyeon's drive in this group, it can not be understated. Writer, composer, producer and an outstanding rapper, she is a force in kpop like very few others. She also loves to try new styles in her song writing so they have a diverse library. And some of the other ladies are starting to help with writing and composing. Truly a unique qroup.

The coolest thing about (G)-I-dle is that the group happened organically... like a happy accident. The CUBE entertainment group that threw them together is a 2nd tier dumpster fire of a company. They got SoYeon because she was considered "not pretty enough" to be in a k-pop group. MiYeon was about to debut with Blackpink but they went in a different direction. Yuqi has this strange deep voice and was from China. Shuhua is from Taiwan and barely spoke Korean. Most girl groups are meticulously curated by the management companies. The management company keeps tight control over their music and image. CUBE being CUBE... they couldn't offer the girls a debut single, so Soyeon took it upon herself to write and produce "Latata" which was wildly successful. The rest is history... Soyeon goes on to write and produce the majority of the groups music. Recently the other girls in the group have started writing and producing music as well. If CUBE was a better company then we probably wouldn't have the (G)-I-dle we all know and love.

Their name can be pronounced as "G IDLE" (mostly when in English), and just IDLE (when Korean), either way is ok since they use both. "G" means girls (obvi), the English character "i" is to represent "oneself" as in "I (am)", stating that each of them is an individual. and the "DLE" is to make a Korean word plural (deul). Thus, their name means "Six individual people, with six different personalities, coming together as one.". "IDLE" also sounds like "Aideul" which means "children" in Korea, so their fandom name is NEVERLAND, a place where kids stay forever as kids and filled with happy thoughts. You are on point on their voices. SOYEON (the short-haired rapper) is their leader, composer, producer, etc., and during their trainee days, she said to her members not to blindly follow their vocal & music lessons since she does not want to be "another girl group" that's cute-sy, sexy, charmy feels (no offense to other GGs). Soyeon also said that MINNIE's (girl being dragged in intro) voice is so damn good, she never would want to change that. There is another version of the lyrics, for me I liked that better since it gave more poetic wordings (or maybe I'm used to that version). But you can check it out tho. (Some points that were told in behind the scenes of shoots and sets:) Soyeon doesn't just writes and composes song, she put story and concept behind it: 1. When Soyeon wrote the songs for I-TRUST (3rd Album with OMG as title track), she said that she wanted the lyrics, video, etc. to be vague and enigmatic, and have viewers thinking "what does the writer thinks or means". She said that viewers may and can think of their own story or meaning to these song, thus TRUSTING what they believe. Most fan explanations said that it can be a support to lgbt community since it is a sensitive topic in Korea, others says it has biblical meaning to it, and many more. Soyeon was definitely right about us creating our meanings to the song. ---The "SHE" and "HER" in the lyrics does not necessarily mean a female. SOYEON explained that the "SHE" is who or whaterver made you addicted and tempted to those things. She then said "Music should not be bound by gender, since music is for everyone." (non-verbatim). 2. I-TRUST album had the concept of you putting your trust, and you trusting someone. Also, in trusting yourself, it can either be trusting the unknown, or trusting something that we know already, but still putting our trust even if we "pay the piper" (willingly take the punishment). In the choreo, (which is not shown mostly on the MV), there is a move that they looked up and covered their eyes. Soyeon said that it means "to trust me/someone not with sight, but with heart/feelings". But trust can be misleading as it can be covered either by Truth or Lie. That connects to their merch and album cover versions. 3. Their albums were white and black. White signifies LIE version, as to some, most lies are seen or shown in plain sight, and if we are about to give our trust/ask someone to trust us, we may tend to tell some white lies for the trust to work. Black signifies the truth (TRUE) version. The album design is like a negative contrast of the white version (not just colored in black but like negative film one),stating that truth can be dark and shunned which can be an issue when trusting since most don't want the "ugly truth". 4. Strings, ropes, wires, etc. that represents constriction or control, and them either breaking free from it (Soojin's part), or embracing it (licking the wire). It kinda says that they are breaking out of these controls and trusting what I chose to trust. Bit of stretch, but for me, they are expressing with the lyrics of Soyeon's rap in LION (another great song you should check out). 5. Apple that has so many symbolisms, both good and bad, yet we still bite into it. (Some behinds shenanigans): Shuhua being happy all day coz of the "moment". "My role is seducing the girls." - Soojin Barbed wires scenes, though obviously fake, were a little bit uncomfortable since it is wrapped around them. "Sorry, but you're like a squid." Soyeon and Minnie swirling on mud and staying beautiful. SooShu jacket moment. Soyeon on "how to use the tongue well" tutorial "sexy... sHexy... SHEXY..." etc. etc. etc. (some are just my understandings as per the explained meaning. Pls do correct me if wrong, Nevies) Hope you to check out more. You really enjoy noisy music, i recommend my fave kpop boygroup called NCT (Neo Culture Technology. A group that has one of the concepts more dificult to understand in kpop cause they debuted in 2016 and already they have 23 member at all (from diferent parts of the world). They divide themselves in units (NCT U, NCT127, NCT DREAM, WAY V) that keep rotating members and having versatile albums and concepts.
