Sooner or later, by trying to numb the pain you feel, you numb the empathy you would otherwise feel for others. I've known people that felt like that -- but until now, I never thought to share music with those kinds of people. Music is the universal language -- and the ultimate barrier destructor. Great video, Amanda! And Sonny, bro, great to see you! #HoldTheRope

@@MentalAmanda : I've also known people, that when they go numb, numb _everything,_ so they never feel at all. I, myself, was one of those people for 15 years, because of my grandma's death, when I was only 15 years old. For years, I felt tremendous guilt that I failed to save her, because of a medical emergency that ended up taking her life. I had just learned CPR the previous week, and did what I could (checking for a pulse). It also didnt help we were about 9 miles out of town, and had no cell phones in 1998. In spite of people telling me I did all I could, I felt guilty that I couldn't save her, because I was the "smart one" in my family. And in that moment, I felt helpless. Powerless. And later, felt guilty. Since then, I've come to terms with it -- but it didn't help the fact I became a true stoic person. I was so numb, I didn't, _couldn't,_ feel anything -- up until a few years ago, when I started listening to symphonic metal. Back then, it was Within Temptation. One day, I heard a song -- I think it was Truth Beneath the Rose -- and I started crying, because the lyrics hit me like a fully-loaded Mack truck going 80 on a freeway. Truth Beneath the Rose is about redemption, and second chances -- and for me, it made me realize that if I did nothing but try, I would be redeemed in some way. The pain might always be there, but at least I can feel it again. Nowadays, Yaad by Bloodywood and Meadows of Heaven by Nightwish are the two songs that, if I'm dealing with something, death in particular, I use to help me grieve. It is very cathartic for me, in that way.

@@isaiahwelch8066 My parents passed 16 and 14 years respectively and it still hurts immensely. I also harbor deep guilt. But I can feel the hurt now. And the joy when it comes. So I think I'm in a healthy place. It's crazy how much music can help us. I'm writing an entire book about just that! How Chester Bennington saved my life. Great video You made together! I love it when people are positive and understanding of how it is to feel anxiety and depression. I thought, as many others, that depressed people just need to do something fun to just snap out of it, i got hit by karma, i now know what emotional hell depression and anxiety brings. If you want suggestions on other artists that highlights these kinds of issues i recommend: Citizen Soldier - Would anyone care. Sixx :AM - Skin. Those songs are my go to songs. I hope you watch them if you don’t then you don’t. 😁🤗 Anyway, have a lovely lifetime everyone!

In keeping with the theme of mental health, I'd suggest you listen to an artist named Aurora. She is a young Norwegian singer and some of her songs really strike a chord (pardon the pun). Her live performance of her song "Lucky" at Nidarosdomen Cathedral is very moving and her music video of her song "The River" is quite powerful.

Hi Amanda and Sonny! Sonny, you know what ever topic, theme we're talking about there is propably a Nightwish song that has something to say about it. For example social media addiction (+ pills for this and that, lipfillers... still haven't seen a woman more beautiful after): Nightwish "Noise".

Hi Amanda, thank you for the channel! I can really recommend ghost love score live at wacken 2013 (important to have live version) by nightwish. It helped me to finally see that I’m worth fighting for. before meeting my wife of 5 years now I always ended up in the same relationships, I attempted suicide when I was 16 because of extreme bullying. I always ended up in relationships where my girlfriend just used me and I always thought it was me who wasn’t normal. Why would I be, haven’t been since I was 16 obviously. I am now 35 and happily married, and we have a great son of 1,5 years old. It took me 15 to 20 years to finally get passed it emotionally. For me a semicolon tattoo really helped me, together with this song (among others)

I might disagree with Sonny at the whole facebook thing. We can all discuss if certain social media platforms should be used for "negativity",and that would be a totally diferent subject for another time. I even limit who can see "my worst updates",as i dont want to be a burden to other people. So to alot of people i come off as this superficial, happy go lucky "soccer team supporter". Its because they dont see the real me....ever. And to hear people who are very public and open, indirectly encourage to cut people out that struggles.....as an "expert on mental health" (professionals calls me that, nothing i claim to be myself),i find it very alarming. Then its interesting that the subject "some people are better to hide theyr own pain, suffering then others" came up. I am one of thoose, and i know the types out there. How other people think,i have lost alot of people on my "online friends lists" over the years. Most of the "negativity" is "a call for help",it doesnt mean that they need anyone to take on the role as a psychiatrist or whatever, but just someone that has the time to talk about everyday things, someone that "wants to do some activity with you,or to hang out with". (Of course,im just talking for me personally, but i know people out there thinks & feels like me as well) Some just keeps on getting beat upon, even the "public agencies" (doctors office, fire dep.,police and alikes) who are supposed to help you,can actually work against you,to a point where you feel that they "clipped your wings". I get it,Sonny has met some people that pulled him down with them, but not everyone that "dwells in theyr negativity" is like that. Some are constantly fighting to feel better, reaching out a hand but its never grabbed by anyone. And like i said, people are aware...they notice people distancing themself from you,and they start minimalizing who can see them when they vent, because they need to get out frustration. It can feel abit provocative and hurtful, even "ignorant" to hear that "you need to distance yourself from "negativity". Not all "self pity, frustration, anger, sadness" and so on is part of that negativity that Sonny is so "against". Like i said,i understand where he is coming from.....just be cautious who and what you call "negativity". What i can relate to more,is the "superficial, happy go lucky" lifestyle everyone tries to imagine to you they have. Like there has been so many people here that got exposed, and they admitted that they actually faked theyr "travels, theyr breakfast table each day...absolutely everything was photoshopped one way or the other". And whether or not they publish real things or "paints on the truth" abit,or completely fakes it....imagine the impact that has on people dreaming of doing the same. My best friend had to completely distance himself from all social media and the internet for a long long time (several months),as he could not take in and process everything he saw on a day to basis. It wasnt "negativity" that became a problem, but social media in general. His brain needed a break..... I call it the social media hysteria, everyone is so hung up in portraying themselfs as "successfull, lucky, happy" that they dont even think about the consequences it can have on people already struggling. I can honestly say that i hate facebook as a platform,to a point where i rarely post anything,im barely active there. So the few times i do,its mostly venting in "status updates". The rest is "superficial stuff" noone else cares about. At least thats my life experience up till now. Other then that,i of course agree with drugs or alcohol abuse,if its with or without mental health involved. I know people who just got so addicted, that they became mentally ill on top. I lost a childhood friend to drugs,he was actually on a recovery programme and was to start working for his uncle the very next morning. But he was so excited, maybe abit nervous that it interupted his sleep. He was on the phone with the doctors office to do the right thing,to hear if he could get something non-harmful that would help him get that nights sleep, before his big day back in actual work, and not dealing drugs like he had been doing until he got caught by the police. The doctors wouldnt give him something,so the desperation came over him,so he called "old friends" who gave him some bad shit. His uncle found him the very next morning, sitting in the couch with a needle in his arm. He was no longer with us.... We who knew him as a friend, share a common agrovation towards the doctors for not helping him. He did clearly not want alot of strong addiction medicine to get high on,he just needed help sleeping before his big day.

I actually agree with you. I have no issue with people posting emotional things on social media media to garner support. It's when it becomes repetitive and they aren't doing the work to improve it that it becomes frustrating. I avoid social media because I get into a negative comparison cycle.

@@MentalAmanda now that i fully understand. I was probably there more then once in my life, whenever i posted it was "frustration". But noone really grabbed my hand as i mentioned, and i noticed my numbers dropping on the list. I checked and understood who was friends and not. My solution was to keep it all to myself, and when i vent it is not viewable to "the world". Might be one helluva "history" for whoever controls the profile when im gone though lol. On the other hand,i can be exhausted or just mentally out of it,but if i see people being "negative",i do interact with them. Because as i have felt it on myself, when noone reached out to me,in hours of need. It just got worse. So i try to prevent others from getting in a "bad repetetive circle",as i have been in and sometimes still find myself in.
