Hey guys, just wanted to say that you are my new favorite reactors! I watch about 5 or 6 regularly and the fact that I'm so old and have experienced all these bands live and watching you youngsters discover them and appreciate the talent they have just make me so happy! Thank you for your honest and opened minded attitude to toward old school metal, rock, and blues! That's the solid foundation that all things now are built on, but I do have to say that sometimes the foundation is better than what's built on top nowadays! Good luck to you!

This was recorded at Hammersmith in London in March 1982 as part of the Beast on the Road Tour days before the album (Number of the Beast) was officially released. This was one of the new album tracks and was only recorded in January/February. Unless anyone in the audience had been to a previous show on this tour (it started late Feb), it was the first time they'd have heard this song. If you notice at the beginning, you can see Bruce signal to the monitor engineer at the side of the stage to turn up his vocals. Probably the best live version of this track ever recorded IMO.

Try to picture this as a song from the warm-up band, because that's what Iron Maiden was in the States when this was first performed in 1982. Had the good fortune of seeing it in Worcester and New Haven. To say they blew Priest out of the building those nights would be an understatement. Their rapid ascension started right about this time.

Hello, my name is Brian from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Loved the reaction to 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', it is my favorite video and Bruce Dickinson is my all time favorite singer. That video in my opinion is why i think every other rock singer secretly wishes that they could sing like Bruce...Just Say'in !!! Anyways, another great Bruce Dickinson song in which he sings his as* off is the song 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. It was written about the old poem from the 1700's by 'Samuel Taylor Colleridge' called 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. It is the 2nd best live video next to 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'. You can really hear Bruce's opera like voice in this song. Except this time just watch the video first not the studio version. Pretty much every Iron Maiden song with the exception of a few songs are about some sort of important event that has happened in history, so it is like having a little history lesson in almost every song. So check it out. I promise it will be your second favorite video/song. But you might want to follow along with the lyrics because he sings the song kind of fast. Thank You, ~Brian~ White Bear Lake, Minnesota🤘🤘 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fr6Djc6QqtaomaM.html&feature=share

They have a live recording of this song like 25yrs newer that is also badass. It has a ton of views. At the beginning of the vid they show the big Iron Maiden commercial airliner into a show. He's the pilot they also show. The vid is also good cuz it shows how awesome they are even decades after this great performance. Easy to see why their crowds had fans ranging in age from 18 to 50 yrs old. Few groups have stayed popular spanning decades recording and touring.

This song was so much fun to play when I was 17 years old. Our bassist was huge Iron Maiden/Steve Harris fan, and sounded just like him. Unfortunately we didn't have singer who could have sang this song (or any songs at decent level 🤣). The thing with maiden is, that they have pretty easy songs for guitarists, but they have awesome feeling and energy, so they are very much fun to play.

@robertdysonn
@robertdysonn Жыл бұрын
They were one of the big band in the 80s however fear of the dark was the first album they put out which last that metal edge they had previously. Much like Metallica, who came out with the black album around the same time is fear of the dark both bands became worse. They both started to hit the big lights at that time. Because they’re soft or metal and they’re over repetitive lyrics are wet. Appealed to kids at that time but it also lost a lot of us real heavy metal heads who had been with them since they’re beginning.
@tonyperez3920

@@robertdysonn Robert I would have to disagree with you when it comes to Iron Maiden. I've been a fan since 1981 and I really enjoy every album of there's and I believe so do a lot of other people around the globe. My favorite song from them is "Hell on Earth" and that is on their latest album that came out in 2021. It amazes me how they continue to write epic songs at their age. I suggest you listen to Hell on Earth and maybe you will see the light. But you are correct about Metallica, they do suck.
@robertdysonn
@robertdysonn Жыл бұрын
@@tonyperez3920 Thanks for the suggestion, juust listened to it. I was 10 years old in 1982 when I bought my first albumn of any kind and it was Number of the Beast, the cover of course. What I loved is the agressive guitar riffs, the range in Bruce’s vocals and thought it was so kick ass. I will say that we will have to agree to disagree though because this one had no really agressive guitar in it really and Bruce was sticking in his high range for most of it and neglecting those low end growls he used to have too and it was fairly repetative. one guy told me Passion Dale was the song and checked it out and could say the same thing aboot it but that song must have had the words “Passion Dale” in it a hundred times. They are just not as good as they once were but you are right, not as bad as Metallica. I wish I were wrong or not so picky because I would love to have some more albumns but I want more like the old ones and not this new stuff. They have been very successful and that is because this softer metal has appealed to more then just the aggressive metal lovers from days past. That Number of the Beast album was a record, smiles.

You know...Awesome...When you guys did Nightwish's Ghost Love Score and had the question about the symbolism behind the Bullhead, apart from every metalhead's immediate thoughts of Ronnie James Dio and the Malocchio ward, I personally immediately thought back to a conversation I had with my strict Irish Catholic mother in the mid-1980s about heavy metal music, during which she called it “devil music.” When you asked about possible satanic symbolism related to the bullhead, I immediately thought of this song because Hallowed Be Thy Name is the song I used to counter my mother's belief that Metal was all about the devil. You can Understand why she thought that way, especially as a late middle-aged mom in the 80s. I mean, look at the imagery Iron Maiden themselves were using. No one ever said prejudice always comes without reason. But my mother would listen to an argument, so I told her about the song and walked her through the lyrics. Hallowed Be Thy Name starts slow and mournful with an unnamed convict in his cell facing the last day of his life, as he’s scheduled to be hanged today: I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time 'Cause at 5 o'clock, they take me to the Gallows Pole The sands of time for me are running low Running low, yeah! The song picks up pace as the priest arrives to administer last rights, and a side-by-side journey begins for the condemned - on one side his physical walk to the courtyard to face the hangman, and on the other a spiritual journey from terror to anger to serenity to acceptance and finally - joy. In that second journey, especially in its conclusion, the “devil music” assumption falls apart. It begins as the priest arrives, and the music picks up in force: When the priest comes to read me the last rites Take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me Can it be that there's some sort of error? Hard to stop the surmounting terror Is it really the end, not some crazy dream? As the Convict tells us what he’s thinking, the music becomes an inexorable march. The Convict’s terror comes through in denial, but the beginning of peace begins to creep in as he professes his faith Somebody, please tell me that I'm dreaming It's not easy to stop from screaming The words escape me when I try to speak Tears flow, but why am I crying? After all, I'm not afraid of dying Don't I believe that there never is an end? He’s not there yet. He still has some anger and frustration to work out: As the guards march me out to the courtyard Somebody cries from a cell, "God be with you" If there's a God, why has he let me go? The music continues its forced march forward as the Convict examines his life and begins to arrive at serenity: As I walk, my life drifts before me Though the end is near, I'm not sorry Catch my soul; it's willing to fly away From there, his faith takes over, and he feels genuinely prepared. His early declaration that he’s not afraid is given reason and conviction: Mark my words; believe my soul lives on Don't worry now that I have gone I've gone beyond to seek the truth When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion The Music continues its seemingly unstoppable pace, but as the song progresses, you can hear it become more and more uplifting; by the end, it wouldn't sound out of place in the middle of a Tchaikovsky symphony carried by violins and cellos rather than electric guitars. By the time the music’s physical march leads the Convict into the courtyard and up the steps to the gallows, he’s no longer afraid, and he’s gone beyond serenity into the realm of true joy. His voice is raised in ecstasy as he joyfully begins to sing the only thing on his mind at the top of his lungs - The Lord’s Prayer: Yeah-yeah-yeah! Hallowed be thy name!! Yeah-yeah-yeah! Hallowed by thy name!! The music takes you through to the end, and you know it’s the end, at least of the story, But by the end of it, you can’t come away feeling like it’s anything but a hymn. My mother agreed. That preconceived notion gave way to what prejudice always has to give way to - the individual example which breaks apart the perception of the absolute. She didn’t suddenly turn into a raving metalhead. But she did come away with a different point of view. I've always appreciated Iron Maiden, and especially this song for helping her see that.

You should listen to The Red and Black 2015 live performance. About 6 minutes of guitar solos. Iron Maiden was insanely amazing.

That drummer, Clive Burr was replaced by the current drummer, Nicko McBrain in 1982. He continued to play drums until 2013. Clive was diagnosed with MS in late 90's. Clive died from complications of MS in 2013. Now, you reacted to young version of Iron Maiden. It is time for both of you need to react IM from newer tours from Flight 666 to Legacy of the Beast. By the way, I don't know Bruce kept his flight status updated because Bruce is also a licensed airline pilot who flies band plus equipment on either Boeing customed 747 or 757 nicknamed "Edd Force One" when Iron Maiden do their world tours.

Hey guys, you still have a huge whole in your reaction adventure. ABBA This group is one of the top selling band world wide. Especially when you realize that although they have far fewer albums than other top sellers they rank in the top 5 world wide album sales. Start with Waterloo, their first international hit.
