Very moving tribute song about USMC Cpl Matthew Conley from Killen (Greenhill), AL. The dress blues are the Marine's dress uniform and the uniform you are buried in at your funeral. Semper Fi Cpl Conley, thank you for your service and your ultimate sacrifice for our country and thank you to Jason Isbell for always remembering your roots.

Love Jason Isbell…saw him and his band The 400 Unit a couple months ago. Check out “If Were Vampires” “Dreamsicle” “St. Peter’s Autograph” “Only Children” “Alabama Pines” “Strawberry Woman” “Stockholm” ….he’s an amazing songwriter.

As a retired Army wife, I knew from the title of this song it was going to be hard. Dress Blues are the Army’s formal uniform worn for only formal ceremonies, formal occasions (my husband wore his when we got married) and for funerals. Sleeping in your dress blues is something no military family wants to see. Very moving but tough song to listen to.

Whoa wasn't expecting to see an Isbell reaction. Probably the top song writer of today. Can't go wrong reacting to his gut punch songs like Elephant or Vampires but check his early work when he was in Drive by Truckers. Goddamn Lonely Love would make for a good reaction

Such a great reaction. Jason uses a “slide” in a lot of his songs, which is like a hard sleeve that fits over your finger. It produces that twangy steel sound on any acoustic. I’m not very good with one, but I have friends who have mastered the art of getting that same sound by fretting the strings with a Bic cigarette lighter. My old buddy, Tommy, used to amaze me with that trick. He actually made it sound professional.

You should check out his old band, Drive-By Truckers. Saw them a couple of days, they're for real, just like Jason. He did an album with them called Decoration Day.

You missed rhe entire point of the song. Yall are focusing in grandmas and its about a 21 year old who died in war and they brought him home to his town to bury him. Dress Blues are what they bury him in.
