He had a worldwide following of millions of fans. He built his empire over five decades and died a much accomplished and beloved man. My brother-in-law gave me an album in 1976 for my birthday. I have been a fan ever since. This song, along with "My African Friend" and "Come Monday" proved to me that he was a true artist and not just a Beach Bum that could carry a tune. He was a beach bum that remained at the top of his game, sold out every show, and had millions of fans that would sing every word of each of his songs. The world is a better place because of Jimmy Buffett.

A beautifully felt reaction as always. Thank you Harri. I've been all around the world and even to Paris. I've heard this song 100 times probably and every time it gives me the chills. I'm happy to say that yes, some of it is magic and some of it is tragic but I've had a good life all the way. I'm lucky that the magic has outweighed the tragic. I'll be 69 years old next month and this song gets better every time I listen to it. In fact, I am going to listen to this reaction a couple more times because you really bring out the feeling in the song. I will probably send you another Jimmy Buffett song next month. Another deep cut.

Based on a real character Jimmy had the pleasure of meeting along the way himself. BTW, Buffett has lots of songs this good! _Last Mango In Paris_ is another similarly themed song.

Jimmy used to busker down in Key West, FL back in the day. My grandma used to put a dollar in his case everyday as she walked to work at the local gift shop. She always called him Lil' Jimmy and said he was such a polite young man.

We started going to Jimmy’s concerts in the mid-70s when we were all in our 20s and kept going until he stopped touring. We’d catch him in San Francisco, Seattle, along the west coast. The world is a little less colorful without him.

So sad to hear of Jimmy Buffett's recent passing. He was a great singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs have such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as "Margaritaville", “Son Of Son Of A Sailor”, “Fins”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, "A Pirate Looks At Forty", “One Particular Harbor”, “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc."

His last name is pronounced so it rhymes with Little Miss Muffett or like you are being buffeted by a heavy wind. Cowboy in the Jungle, One Particular Harbor, Growing Older But Not Up, and Manana are some other great songs of his.

Great reaction. Buffett is a phenomenal storyteller. His songs are played way too infrequently. And the best works in his catalog, those with the deepest and most resonant meaning, are rarely heard.

one of my 1st & remaining in my top 5 Jimmy Buffet songs is "This Hotel Room" from his record "Havana Daydreaming". "A Pirate Looks at 40" is an EXTREMELY close #2 (a little JB humor). #3 "Boat Drinks". #4 " Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" & #5 Dixie Diner" RIP JB, Thanks for the memories!!

I've been a parrot head Since about 1980. Been to more concerts that I can count. Just a couple of other suggestions for more serious ballads that Jimmy wrote. Steamer, The Captain and the Kid, Tin Cup Chalice and Livin' and Dyin' in 3/4 Time. All are great! Jimmy was a wonderful song writer who sold escapism. Merci pour la magie Jimmy 😢
