Johnny Cash used to listen to The Carter family on the AM radio and he was a huge fan. It's just so funny that he would fall in love with a younger generation. And their love story is tumultuous and a long time unfolding but it is really ultimately beautiful. She was so damn good but then she came from one of the greatest musical families in that era.

Johnny Cash and June Carter met backstage at the Grand Ole Opry after an Elvis concert in 1956. Presley had told June about Johnny Cash prior, having made her listen to his songs on a jukebox multiple times. It took approximately a dozen years of his pursuing her and her saying no intil she finally she said yes. They were married for 35 years until her death. Johnny died 4 months later officially of complications from his diabetes, although many believe it was a broken heart that was the real contributing cause of death.

June Carter was soon to be Cash at the time of this performance. June was Country Music Royalty. She performed with the Carter Family with her sisters and mother Maybelle Carter (original Carter Family was Maybelle, her brother in law A.P. and sister in law Sara). The original Carter are considered founders of Country Music.

Well Johnny and June and Elvis, before Johnny and Elvis were famous, all toured around together, along with others.

June is good but Johnny is a legend...the world lost one of the best when he passed.

Definitely react to more of Johnny & June singing together. He fell in love with her when he was married with I think 4 kids. (He married too young and his career was very hard on his marriage. She left him when she heard the rumors about him and June.) He pursued June for years, and hired her often in order to be with her on the road and win her over. It wasn't until after he got sober, if I remember correctly, that she finally agreed to marry him. He'd asked her many times to marry him and then one day on a live TV performance he asked her in front of the audience! Of course she had to say yes. When they performed together, their love for each other was so evident. It was a beautiful and heartwarming experience to witness them together. It was truly one of those rare love stories of people finding their soul mate. Their love for each other never faded. They were together until she passed away a few years back. He passed about a year later, I think.

This may be out of left field, but if you LOVE Johnny Cash then may I suggest you listen to perform It’s Crowell’s Love Song to Johnny Cash and what makes it so special is that Crowell wrote it for Johnny - who used to be his father-in-law when Crowell was married to JC’s daughter Roseanne! (BTW: Crowell released the song six years after he & Roseanne divorced so it’s obvious Crowell remained close to the Cash family after that split.) Love your reactions to such wonderful music! When Johnny was presented with the song "Hurt" he said that wasn't his type of song. "June Bug" as he referred to her as told him that it's just the him and when he does decide to record it it will be his. June directed Johnny many times on songs and those are the ones that became iconic. She was a savvy writer and business industry woman.
