Just home from the Vietnam War for a few years in 1975 and in my 20s.. this music defined a lot of us. It just warms my heart to see young people enjoying Zeppelin now. My generation is at the end now . Please keep this music alive for us. Thank you.

If no one has said it, Welcome Home. I truly hope you don't have any unresolved issues from your time there. If you do PLEASE get help. I had a guy in my college class that was there and he unfortunately suffered from PTSD. He told me at the time they didn't believe you guys and your problems. I personally witnessed him suffering and it was terrible. When he came back to me I naively asked him what happened. He replied to me "I am someone else and go to some other place, and I don't know that person and I don't know where I go". I lost track of him years ago and I think he wanted it that way. He didn't want to burden others with his problem., Such a shame, great guy, I wish I could have helped more. We as a generation might be going away but damn if we aren't leaving behind some incredible music aren't we?! Be well and safe peace to you and yours.

@@maf5454 Thanks that really means a lot. I was in the 9th Marines and a field radio guy. The most valued target of all ..lol Most our time there was basically described as trememdous boredom mixed in with 20 mins of shear terror at a time ..lol that is the only way to expain it . They never stayed around long at any of the firebases or field that I was located .. anyway, it just warms my heart to see these young kids enjoying the music of the 60s and 70s. I really enjoy watching these youngsters music reaction channels.

How can a song be so hard and soft at the same time and have it work so well? This is one example of why they are the best to ever do it.

@Al-yf7m Couldn't have said it any better! Let us just say I've been listening to LZ for a long time. These guys made my high school years just bearable. And when I was in college and trying to figure out a math or engineering class problem they cooled my mind and the solution would seem to appear. Yes, they were hard and soft at the same time because they were incredible musicians at the top of their game and were generous enough to share with us. Be well and safe, peace to you and yours.

Well put, Page was and still is one of the best composers in my lifetime, along with Lennon & McCartney, they had an ear for music in general, and such great minds to be able to put it all together for our enjoyment, although I'll always lean towards Zeppelin as the best, but I'm biased, I was a teenager in the 70's when Zeppelin ruled, them and Pink Floyd were so amazing, I could go on and on. Great reaction btw, I could see you two were really into the music, it just can't be helped, such a beautiful sound, it draws you in

Ahhh one of the great Zeppelin tracks. Timeless and beautiful in all departments. Plant's nostalgic lyrics, John Paul Jones' arrangement expertise and subtle but impactful bass line, Page with inspiring chord progressions and melodic solo and Bonham as usual knowing when to go hard and when to go soft complimenting the song and taking nothing away. Just beautiful.

Were you listening to AOR stations in the 1970s? Those DJ schmucks played STH to death, and it must have been the most requested song from 1971-76. I can't listen to it anymore, including most of LZ IV, the Runes album. I enjoy every album from the first (my fave) to Presence, excepting the pomposity of Runes. Just my opinion, unshared by nearly everyone. So sue me...

Some real artistry in this gentler side of Zeppelin. But of course even their gentler side packs a punch. And the artistry's always there. Robert wrote this thinking about a real someone from his early youth. Another epic song from "Physical Graffiti" is "In the Light". Wow, deep cut! Great choice. For my money, one of the greatest unsung Led Zeppelin tracks. The other great epic from this album ,"Physical Grafitti," is "In The Light," which is just a whole mood. And for just plain nasty grooves, "Custard Pie," and especially "The Wanton Song," which IMO is the single most vicious groove on their entire catalog.

Great note I saw on this song from wiki. Robert Plant added lyrics, which are dedicated to an old girlfriend who, ten years earlier, had made him choose either her or his music. Plant explained this in an interview in 1975: "Let me tell you a little story behind the song "Ten Years Gone" on our new album. I was working my ass off before joining Zeppelin. A lady I really dearly loved said, "Right. It's me or your fans." Not that I had fans, but I said, "I can't stop, I've got to keep going." She's quite content these days, I imagine. She's got a washing machine that works by itself and a little sports car. We wouldn't have anything to say anymore. I could probably relate to her, but she couldn't relate to me. I'd be smiling too much. Ten years gone, I'm afraid. Anyway, there's a gamble for you."

Something about his admission seems off or the song is mistitled. L.Z. came to be in '68. Plant was 20. This song is from late 74, early 75. "Ten years gone" would be referencing late 64 or early 65. Not saying Plant isn't being truthful, but the numbers don't jive. But then Seven years gone just doesn't have the same ring as ten, does it?

@@skiptowne5724 that’s what I was thinking. I suspect Plant took some artistic license by using 10 years because, as you said, 7 years gone doesn’t have the same effect.

Plant was playing in bands when he was 15-16. And he got married when he was about 19. This lady was clearly from before his marriage
