Melody's voice is the love child of Ronnie James Dio and Janice Joplin

Their parents were both born in Romania, their dad in the Transylvania area, their name “Liliac” (pronounced Lily-ack) is Romanian for bat, specifically vampire bat. There parents didn’t meet and get married until both families immigrated to the US. They compose their own music, they started doing covers first, and since they were living in LA at the time, they performed on the Santa Monica Pier to get used to performing before live audiences. When their parents realized how good they were and how committed, they began homeschooling so the kids could also attend the Downy Music School. Their first three albums are covers and they now have three albums of originals. You may see some footage where they have a drummer other than Abby. She got married last August and took time off from touring beginning in July to prepare for the wedding, then the wedding itself, honeymoon and getting settled into her new home. Alexa Rae, another talented female drummer filled in then. They currently have a very heavy tour schedule across the US. Abby will join them on the tour in the summer, until then, they’re giving a young man named Paul a chance to play with them. They are multi instrumental, Sam plays violin as well as guitar, Abby the accordion as well as drums, Melody originally played bass before teaching Ethan, she also plays flute, Ethan plays bass and also rhythm guitar and is currently learning drums and Justin in addition to keyboards is currently learning guitar. If you enjoy live performances you might want to check out Not Afraid, another original which is a compilation from live performances and is really well done, and their cover of Master of Puppets featuring Aiden Fisher. Some other great originals are Dear Father, We Are the Children, Mystery, Sail Away, Carousel and Madness. Melody, the vocalist was inspired by Ronnie James Dio, so their covers of Holy Diver, Last in Line, which was requested by Wendy Dio for the Cancer Fund Tribute, and most recently they decided to cover Heaven and Hell. In addition to Wendy, some of their more well known fangs (name of their fans) are Vinnie Appice (Black Sabbath), Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and Stewart Copeland (The Police). ❤️🦇

New sub here. God, I love watching newbies do their first Liliac reaction! Girl, you mentioned going down a rabbit hole earlier and that's exactly what most of us Liliac fangs (yes, I said fangs, and you'll understand with a little more research) did. I was searching for some info on Ozzy and stumbled across their Crazy Train cover. I was stunned. Couldn't believe these literal kids were that freaking talented. I dove in head first and started watching all their KZfaq vids. Absolutely hooked from the word go. Have fun going through their catalog. There's not a really bad song in it, and most covers are at least as good as the originals. Signing off now because your rabbit hole awaits!

TWA member here, I had not give Liliac a fair shot, but seeing Ashlena was reacting seemed like the best moment. The singer, guitarist, drummer show to be very talented and skilled in their roles within the band. Didn't see enough of the other members to judge either way. From the comments I get that Errors were made in the past, in their interactions with fans/media and that rubbed people the wrong way. Also from the comments it seems the bands (Liliac and The Warning) themselves have decided to leave this in the past, let's not bring a fight that has been all but settled to Ashlena's channel and have her play the referee. I love that people are having new music acts to listen to, be it Baby Metal, Band Main, Liliac, Lovebites, Nemophila, Plush, Voice of Baceprot, or The Warning, find your female led group and support them, don't bring drama or make it into a talent-measuring contest. Lily-ack, all siblings, born in the US, parents from Romania that moved here and got citizenship and dad is a producer. Dad saw they had talent when they were young, so he bought them instruments and got them some good teachers. They are just so good for a young band, they sound so tight, like a band playing 20 years together, wish they were this tight. RO&RH

Hello my new young friend. Welcome to the World of Lil-e-ac! It's Romanian word that means bat. They are all US Born of Romanian born parents. The parents moved to the US as children, met in High School, Married, and gave birth to a Vamp Metal band! Glad you started with an original. Abigail got married recently and will be touring again in the summer. She's the heartbeat of the band. They busked on the Santa Monica pier for 5 years at a very young age. I've loved this group since I first saw the video of them doing Crazy Train on Santa Monica Pier. Great performance. They appeared in Season 15 of America's Got Talent, but withdrew when the company (allegedly) demanded 99% of the any profits that they would make over the following five years.

Ashlena, you are doing as I did and mispronouncing their name. It's not Lilac, it's Liliac( pronounced Lilly-ac) and it's Transylvanian for Vampire Bat. Their father lived less than an hour away from Vlad the Impailers(Count Dracula) castle. Abigail, the drummer, over the summer, got married and they had a fill in, but Abby's back.

Enjoy your reaction, I grew up listening to two types of music mostly Rock and Roll and Heavy Music. Back in the 1970’s when I was in my late teens. And to see bands like “The Warning” and “Liliac” bring back my style of music is great. It’s awesome to see these youngsters playing this good. At that age I could play some what but not at that caliber. I was in a local band and we play around clubs but for me music was a hobby that I loved, till this day I still play but this good. To me “The Warning” is rock and roll and “Liliac” is more heavy metal, both are awesome.

Definitely gotta check out their official tribute video called Heaven and Hell and their original song video called Sail Away. The first one is on the epic side and the last is a serious heart squeezer. I really think they're raising the standards of musical talent that future new bands will have to strive for. Which is the opposite of the trend that the sub-par grunge and alternative bands did to music in the early 90's. And that's a good thing.

Okay, I said I was letting you loose to hit that rabbit hole, but then you asked a bunch of questions. Here's some helpful info. Mom and dad are both from Romania, but they actually met in church here in the states. The kids were all born here. Dad has music biz experience which has been a huge help because they're completely independent. They don't want to be controlled by a label, so they're DIY on everything. The band name is actually pronounced "LILY-ac" and it's Romanian for bat. As you noted, they started out playing primarily what they called "vamp metal" which was basically Ozzy/Dio/Sabbath/Mega Deth/etc, plus Papa Liliac grew up near the real Dracula's Castle, so the name really makes sense. That's far from all they play though. You won't believe how versatile they are. If you want to see them REALLY young, check their covers of Crazy Train, Wild Thing, Enter Sandman, Holy Diver, and either The Trooper, or Rainbow in the Dark. As they got a little older they kept doing more covers (and you can't really go wrong with any of them, but Symphony of Destruction, and Piece of My Heart are both musts) as well as some originals (I'd suggest We Are the Children, Dear Father, Not Afraid... but you have to do the concert compilation version of that... absolutely do Sail Away, and probably Dancing in the Dark. More recent covers should include Seven Nation Army, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Master of Puppets, Close My Eyes Forever, and The Last in Line. Originals I'd say do Somber Cry, Carousel, and Madness. Sounds to me like you've been FANGED!!! Welcome to Liliac!!! Found this family on vacation in the last year and they became my personal obsession .. basically asking the same questions you did.. The talent is stunning. They're so good. They do a lot of covers because they're an indie group. But they have multiple albums out of original material and it's all really good. People usually start on the covers; but, you got fed a specific piece that could not have been a better selection to introduce you to the group's originals on. Another one I personally recommend for the group 'style' is "Nothing". It's an older cut; but, amazing. "Sail Away" is another favorite among the originals for introducing new people to the group's originals. Its a ballad and it's an instant classic IMO. The lead singer, Melody aka Melodia takes strongly from the stylings of Ronnie James Dio. You can see some other influences in here stage performance as well.. like Freddie Mercury, David Lee Roth.. She's really taken a lot of cues from wherever she could find them for building her stage presence. And man is she ever -PRESENT on that stage. Sam is the Eldest and the lead Guitarist. He's a virtuoso as far as I'm concerned.. You don't spend the hours on the practice end and shred like that without having some serious talent to go with the skill. Abigail is the drummer and is just a beast on the kit. Justin and Ethan fill out on keys and bass respectively.. and you'll find not a single slouch in the mix. They're all masters of their craft even as young as they are. They impress like nobody's business. And use Covers as advertising since they are indie. Helps keep them visible as the fan base grows. They have covered several pieces by Dio that got them noticed by The Appcie Brothers. Vinny was Dio's Drummer. And they're now fast friends. She;'s performed numerous Black Sabbath and Dio Classics at Sabbath Nights with Vinny and the crew. And they were invited to record an unreleased extended cut of Last in line for the Dio Cancer fund by Wendy Dio, Ronnie's widow. So they're rubbing elbows with metal royalty by invitation, which is also fun. You'll find a lot of covers from other groups as well. They essentially took the box of the greatest 100 metal songs of all time; poured out the top 20 and started covering them.. they have just owned so many of them it's ridiculous. "Enter Sandman", "Master of Puppets", "The Trooper", "Holy Diver", "7 Nation Army".... on and on. 7 Nation army by the white stripes is my personal favorite of their covers. It's just sick what they have done with that song.. makes the original sound like a demo tape. Can't get enough. There is a ton of material to pick from. And you can't go wrong with any of it. Best bet, just pick something and dive in. It took me about 6 months before the initial shock started to wear off. Long before that I bought their entire discography and haven't looked back. Was never even a metal fan. But this is such a cool family that they make it hard not to be a fan !!! Welcome to Fangdome. RORH!

But I am not a fan of their songwriting or dated sound and feel they are trying very hard to be rockstars rather than artists. All their father talks about is promotion. Enjoy the music, Melody as an amazing voice and from what I have seen they are great kids. Mars is a great song and this is an amazing performance
