@@joey22306 I think it’s sad you think that, it’s not true at all I hope you go out and look at some of the newer jazz artists like Kamasi Washington and Immanuel Wilkins who are awesome. Rock and Roll is a dying genre, it’s only being kept alive through alternative genres of it, jazz has not died at all, in mean “jazz hip hop” or whatever you want to call it was a big trend for most of the 2010s, to pimp a butterfly is hugely jazz inspired and is one of the most celebrated albums of the decade. BADBADNOTGOOD is also a great jazz trio, who even produced an entire album for Ghostface Killah where it’s all live instruments used for the beats. There really no shortage of these type of things I could name you them all day and those aren’t even underground at all.

Legend. Louis just makes you smile - you can't help it. I first heard this song by mistake when i was 13 or 14. I had one of those "dial radios" that i used for my alarm clock. It somehow slipped to an "oldies" station and this song came on while I was running late for school. I was amazed and instead of turning it off and heading to school, I listened to the entire thing - totally enthralled. Back in '79 or so when I heard it, I simply never heard anything quite like it before. I had to hear it thru its ending.

Louis Armstrong was such an amazing singer, because you can see behind those eyes, through his music, through his smile, through his singing, through his trumpet playing, was an amazing story. He brought joy to all he sang to. Whenever I hear old folks singing, it brings tears to my eyes, because I see such a legacy they must have left, and such experience and wisdom they must have gained through the years. The weight of these lyrics always hit me hard. There's a saying that says "When an old person dies, a library is lost". Love this song. Love your reactions to it!!

It's quite a statement coming from a man who could not stay at the hotel where he performed, (see the movie, Green Book). He's a legend. Beautiful message that has never lost it's value.🙏 he sings differently because he was a technical wizard jazz musician on the trumpet. 😌 Tks so much for the memories and your heartfelt reaction 💕

Asia & BJ, I knew I was going to love this react when I saw you were playing Louis Armstrong. I had the good fortune to see him with his band live in 1962 -- in the gymnasium of my Pacific Northwest hometown! I was just a 10-year old kid there with my family. Nothing but white in the audience. But the gym was packed to the rafters and when he and his 5 piece band came out to their set (on the varnished basketball floor), dressed in formal black tuxedos, they got tremendous extended applause and cheers! Here was Armstrong and his jazz band live, right in front of us!!! When they struck up and played, we heard that legendary voice singing and playing trumpet -- complete with the ever-present white towel to wipe off his face and mouth. We loved every moment. The whole band was so cool and tight that within the first thirty minutes the entire place was swaying with them. It was an epic evening in the annals of my little hometown. Thanks for your great react to this great video recording of a great 20th century American jazzman!

This song is timeless!!! Louis Armstrong originally recorded this song back in 1967. This song went to #1 on the British Pop chart in that same year. But it took 21 years to finally that this song cracked the Billboard Top 40 chart in the winter of 1988. It peaked at #32. All thanks to the box office hit film, Good Morning Vietnam, starring the late Robin Williams.

Go way back to the 20's & 30's: that's when Louis taught the world how to sing with a personal vibe. He was the first one who really understood the difference between a singer on stage and a singer on recordings. People listen to recordings in their home, a one on one communication. Add in his influence on jazz and you realize he was the founder of 20th century popular music for both white and black artists: Bing Crosby, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Fred Astaire, Billie Holiday, Anita O'Day, Peggy Lee. They called him Pops.

During the 90s I worked for eight-odd years in a night club called the Hip-e Club, and this was always the last song played. At four in the morning, just a handful of punters left in the club... Glassies leaning against the walls with their trays, waiting; bartenders, starting to tidy away... At the end of the song, all lights on... glow of the sun rising in the east, outside... fabulous...
