Sang this to my baby boy when he'd get fussy. Years later it played on a station and his wife mentions, "your Mom's ringtone." 😁 I know he likes Skynyrd...goes to show you... 🥰

This was composed after two members lost mother and grand mother respectively in same month. The were visiting about the advice they gave and from that chat came this beautiful song. A relatable tribute for all of us.

"Free Bird" is their must listen to song. Other great southern rock bands are The Allman Brothers, who helped create southern rock, ZZ Top, Marshal Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, and many others.

Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps" etc.

The most famous and successful Skynyrd lineups always have three guitars 🎸 Gary Rossington, Ed King, and Allen Collins. King was replaced by Steve Gaines. Their distinctive guitar sound often came from two playing the same lines backed by rhythm guitar

Great reaction……like others have said “Free Bird” is their opus but they have a huge catalog of bangers……If like the southern drawl you’ll love “Flirting with disaster” by Molly Hatchet…it’s a classic southern rock GOAT !

Ed King, primarily a guitarist played bass on the first album. At the time Leon Wilkerson had been the bass player and toured with the band through his life. You might check out the song The Ballad of Curtis Lowe. The song features a dobro. Many of their songs featured slide guitar.as well. I saw them in their first NYC appearance at Wohlman Skating rink in Central Park along with The Elvin BIshop Group and The James Cotton Band for $5.00.Ronnie Van Zandt kept chugging on his bottle of Jack Daniels throughout the show.. Allen Collins and Gary Rossington were phenomenal on guitar.

Incredible band, I saw them at Shoreline Amphitheater in Sep ‘87. It was the 4th show after they started touring again with Johnny. Alan Collins was rolled out in his wheelchair and gave a tearful drunk driving message, and Carlos Santana walked onstage and played with them a bit. I’ve seen them again in ‘97, ‘16, and ‘19. There’s a really good documentary about the plane crash.

This whole album is near perfect. For another song to listen to, check out an excellent deep cut of their's - "I Know A Little" checks all your likes and is a rollicking little tune. Song was on the "Street Survivers" album released only days before the tragic plane crash. Written by Steve Gaines, the newest member, who also played lead guitar on the song. Excellent guitar riffs and a great little piano solo too.🔥🔥🔥🕊🕊🕊🕊❤❤❤❤

Gonna give ya the what's what here. I'm 64 years old and saw Skynyrd 2 times live but was a fan from the start because the used three lead guitarist a bass keyboard and drummer with lead vocals by Ronnie VanZant this band was ahead of itself with the music but hit the peak when Ronnie took on Steve Gaines who was the brother of one of the backup singers Cassie Gaines the album Street Survivor and the song : You Got That Right, shows that the sound and mix vocals of Ronnie and Steve took them to the edge of perfection. Now not to babble on to much, when Ronnie, Steve and Cassie were killed in 1977, people thought It was the end. Well in a way it was, But Ronnie as brother Johnny VanZant took the lead vocals and built a new Lynyrd Skynyrd with his voice, now as I have heard all of the music put out by this band from Ronnie through Johnny I can say without a doubt the last CD they did was the closest to the 77 Skynyrd. Check it out : Last Of A Dying Breed. Oh yeah I could give you a list but I'll only give you three two old and one new,1. Free Bird live, 2. You Got That Right and 3. Last Of acting Breed. Once you hear the last one you will listen to the rest of that CD!

When i was a kid in the 70s and a teen in the 80s, we didn't really make the distinction with Skynyrd like with some of the other Southern bands, even with other bands from the South. It was just great rock to us, and they blew their headline bands off the stage with their performances. They were as good, if not even way better, live than in studio.

What’s with these categories that “they” assign? There’s NOTHING “heavy metal” about southern rock! Do they throw out “metal” every time there is a distorted guitar? I’m beginning to think that’s it. Humpf……(crabby old codger I guess).
