I hear you about DOOM's conversational monotone. It took me a few listens to get where he was coming from because I was also used to rappers with a more melodic, emotional delivery, a bunch of catchy choruses, etc, and if you're expecting that, you're going to feel like something's missing. He's stripping away certain "sweetening" elements to laser-focus on the rhymes. Personally, to me the lack of choruses is part of what makes DOOM's work so replayable, even if it means it's not going to land as hard on a first listen. This album has like a hundred moments that could be a chorus, but they're never repeated. On the other hand, listen to the album 20 times until you have the whole thing memorized, and then it's all chorus, baybeee.

When I first listened to this album, it didn’t like it at all. The concepts threw me off and the sound was hard to consume. But a while later it clicked for me, that was the point of this project. All the samples were a celebration of music and DOOMs flows were a celebration of language. And the sound grew on me with how moody it is. That’s why madvillainy is my favorite album ever.

You prolly one of the best music reaction channels, I like how you actually take time to understand the song and give your actual opinions instead of mindlessly hating or glazing the album based on viewer opinion. I recommend listening to Operation Doomsday or Vaudeville Villain if you want to get into DOOM; Mm… Food is a good one but not really the best starting point as I feel like it leans too far into the cartoon samples and you have to already be into that stuff to fully enjoy it (I also personally think DOOM fans overrate it, it’s good but it’s def not his best work)

For me, this is the best work from both one of the greatest MCs and also one of the greatest producers of all time. Madvillainy just has this amazing flow to it which nothing was really able to recreate since. I understand that you were thrown off by by the low-key-ness of the whole thing a bit, from everything you hear about this you probably expected something with 22 fire short tracks which completely bang through the whole album, but this idea is only one side of Madvillainy and only a hanfull of songs really embody that. (they do it right tho 😮‍💨😮‍💨) If you listen to this album to pull tracks off of it and put them in your playlist then yeah, this is only going to be pretty meh for you. But if you just sit down for 45 minutes straight doing nothing else but vibe to all the different flows, beats and overall ideas this project offers, i guarantee you you’re gonna have a very great and unique experience. So I don’t think the gym is a good place to listen to this either, ideally you’d have a 1950’s themed room, a bottle of whiskey and one of these old record players with them big ass trumpets as a speaker, but i think the pc will do it for now 😭 But no really try to give it a few more really conscious and chill listens, pay close attention to the lyrics but try not to overthink it either. just vibe tbh truly one of the best Hip-Hop albums ever in my opinion, and DOOM’s discography offers so many more hidden gems, twisted side projects and etc.. One of the best to ever make it, and gone too soon ! rip the supervillain

First off, blown away by the quality, both in production and analysis. I think your criticism is really fair, some of these songs are really hard to get into. I think the reason so many people (myself included) call this one of the best, is that there's nothing else really like it. So for people who want this sound, it's the best ever. If you don't want something more on the experimental side, then there's still standout tracks, but the "filler" won't be for you. Personally, this is a perfect album. But I also get it when people pick 2-3 songs they like, and ditch the rest.

@@JaKarTV Hey, nothin wrong with being critical if you can give reasons behind it. It's much worse to accept everything non-critically, than to sit and try to understand and articulate why you don't like something. People who "like every song" are a dime a dozen, people who can explain and understand their own preferences are much rarer.

My personal favorite producer is Madlib but I totally understand your complaints with the style. He comes from a background in jazz production and he definitely incorporates that into his music, especially with his sampling. If you don’t f with jazz then that almost definitely means you won’t f with Madlib. His style is just more chilled out but on a technical level extremely impressive but it’s also the sort of thing that isn’t very apparent especially on first listen. But if you do wanna give him another chance, Piñata is really good and uses generally less jazz sampling than Madvillainy. It’s higher energy with choruses and with Freddie Gibbs, a rapper with a sharper flow than DOOM and more emotion behind his songs. I think DOOM is the best rapper of all time on a technical level with one of the most buttery flows but if you’re more of a cinnamon fan I gotta recommend Freddie Gibbs again.

If you want MF DOOM less monotone then listen to Operation Doomsday or Viktor Vaugn. A little bit about the artist Daniel Dumile was a British American rapper who had a group with his brother Subroc called KMD they had 2 albums his brother died the same time the album dropped and hime dissapeered from the industry he lived this shit vowing revenge on the industry that dropped him (for a for album but pro black cover scared white america). After 5 years he returned with a plan make a way back and be the best doing it. He dropped Operation Doomsday (This is totally Marvel Dr Doom explaining the origins the rapping and production is more raw and he self produced it. Viktor Vaughn is him rapping as alternate younger MF DOOM using a battle rap mentality and out for blood with different flows. Around this time he dropped King Ghidorah which takes place in the Godzilla unizerse and features his rap group MIC Monster Island Czars. So every project is like a different world much like Wu Tang Clan No one really was transfusing the comics and cartoons into hip hop and relating that to their struggles as artists. He inspired a lot of the Adult Swim Crowd artists like odd future earl pro era childish gambino griselda DOOM doing an album with the cartoon network characters it's legendary. Madvillany led to MM FOOD a album about well what it suggests, with food metaphors relating to every track. He always changed it up. Even collabing with Inspectah Deck of Wu Tang (and Esoteric and 7L for a full album in their running series Czarface straight Marvel Comics inspired hip hop they got like 8 albums. MF DOOM inspired that lane of creativitivity that many artists are now either influenced or stumbling onto. A little bit about Madlib He's Quasimoto (the high pitch MC he has 3 album of funky groovy jazzy hip hop) Had a rap group with Wild Child called Lootpack Kept Stones Throw Records alive for 10 years living in a bomb shelter with an insane out put of beatmaking and songs Does jazz fusion hip hop albums More beat tapes than you can count Has an album with J Dilla (one of the best producers alive that is very similar to Madlib he retired after J Dilla passed. Recording Donuts a hip hop instramental album that inspires everyone is how this man communicated through Beats That is Why Madvillany has those samples they are telling the concept and leading into other tracks using even 5 second bits of recorded audio to tell a story. MF DOOM Alchemist Madlib all did this. All these records you should get to as they all should be listened to. MF DOOM was an artist I liked but iv'e over the years grew to love. His brother is producer Oh No who scored GTA 5 soundtrack with Alchemist they got a hip hop group called Gangrene thats fire!!!!
